Chris, I remember watching Sherv's video that showed that Laszlo Sary album, is that what inspired you to buy it? I love Charlie Haden, his duo albums, ''Closeness'', ''The Golden Number'', '' Soapsuds, Soapsuds'' ( with just Ornette as a duo partner) and '' As Long As There's Music''( with just Hampton Hawes as a duo partner), are all long-time favorites. I saw Charlie play live a few times and got a chance to chat with him, we talked mostly about Country Music and American ''folk'' music, which he grew up with, playing with his family. He played his first live radio gig with his family, he was featured as a vocalist, he was only two years old! I was impressed that he spent so much time talking to me, and quietly answering my ''rapid- fire'' questions. I discovered Pat Thomas when I bought an Incus cd, ''The Derek Bailey Quartet'', with Tony Oxley, Matt Wand, and Pat Thomas. Of course, I enjoyed all the needle- drops as per usual!
Michael, Sherv's video was probably my subliminal trigger to buy the Laslo Sary album. At least he brainwashed me in a good way! I have a bunch of albums with Charlie Haden involvement, according to Discogs. More than I realized. I also enjoy some of his daughter's acapella albums, Petra. I don't think that I have that Derek Bailey Quartet album.
@@christopherkibler511 Chris, in regards to duo albums, there is a recent archive release, vinyl only, of Derek Bailey and Paul Motian, from the 1990's.
Bill Vanoveer/Stuntrock Confusion. Same thing. I'm glad you decided to get Melted Men out, even though it isn't new. That cover is fantastic and the label too. Wow, six pianos at once for László. I'll bet the only time that piece was performed was for the recording; getting six pianos into one recording space is quite a task. I suppose a music school like Berkeley could put on a performance. Those were all really interesting - thanks Chris!
Fantastic video Chris, I liked all the samples and also some solo piano in there. The three first you showed are really intriguing. I love Black Suns a bit jazzy psych oriental take on some tracks, I have Lambent Flame on vinyl but their cd only stuff like Starlight, Hymn of master and Bolt of apollo is great. Cheers.
Most of my Black Sun Ensemble is on CD. I am glad that I finally got that Detoni album. Not sure about shakuhachi with piano, I might prefer piano with shakuhachi. Thanks
Love side one on the detoni..that koga is beautiful i have had that one for years... Black sun ensemble is an interesting band i had a copy of that one long ago. Also love sary's stuff don't have that one though but probably somewhere on my wl..😂...nice update brother..much love chris
Thanks Chris. I just stumbled across the Koga album. Now I looking for some other Sary albums on Hungaroton, but they don't seem readily available in the US. I am glad that I got lucky with this one. Take care, Chris
No Ida where you find these albums at Chris, always amazing stuff. It does appear Stunty has been cloned, that album was visual proof of it. Melted amen had a fascinating cover.
Hi Chris. Well, I'm glad that avant garde music exists and there are folks who what to listen to it...But it's not something I'd spend any time with. I think I might like to attend a live performance, for the shear performative experience. I liked the Bill Vanaver. A bit hectic, but sounded great. The Melted Men sound cool. I also love the unique covers. Cheers - Hedley
Hi Chris - I have to say that I enjoyed all of the needle drops. We even got some astronomy with the The Solar Model of Ibn Al-Shatir! Cool. You really have an eye (and ear) for the obscure! But, these are fascinating.
Thanks Brian. I know that it is no John Cale, but Pat Thomas has played with Lol Coxhill, who has played with Kevin Ayers who played with John Cale on that live at Bataclan album and the June 1, 1974 album. So, it is almost like I am making an extension to your series. I just forgot to mention that it tied in to the recent Lou Reed video and the John Cale series. If only I had thought of that in the moment!
Hi Chris. Excellent assortment of the artists that are new to the VC and generally never shown. I tried to find some of the Melted Men "Breathe The Glass" album but no go. I was interested in the experimental side of it. The Black Sun Ensemble and the one that you pre-ordered are written down. I will check them out later on. Superb update Chris. I enjoy seeing and c hecking out any artists that are new to me. Especially avant-garde jazz and experimental anything. Thanks~ Rob/Boston
Thanks Jonas. I did get a copy of that Donovan's Greatest Hits, but the on-line seller claimed that he did not know that it was supposed to come with the booklet, so it ended up being really cheap.
Hi Chris, lots of interesting, and weird, pickups. I'm not au fait with any of them with the exception of Black Sun Ensemble - picked a copy of their Lambent Flame (the album before Tragic Magic) just a short while ago. Really enjoyed it so will be keeping an eye out for more by them. Really liked the sound of the Bill Vanaver - is the rest of the album in the same vein? Cheers... Pete
Hey Pete. No, the Bill Vanaver if a folk album at heart. So most of the album has vocals and some folk standards, like If I Were A Carpenter, and Mad Tom Of Bedlam. The guitar is pretty good throughout.
Stunty does seem to have some resemblance to Vanaver haha, speaking of stunty, he played Detoni maybe a year ago or so and put it on my radar, great pickup. Otoroku is a label I like to keep an eye on as well, they put out some good stuff. Dig the last 2 records you sampled quite a bit.
Paul Motian, one of the great drummers to come out of The Bill Evans Trio. Great obscure finds, Chris! Digging it!

Thanks Randy. Six pianos takes some real estate to position.
cool finds chris, nice you got snail play ...
Thanks Sherv. Now I want two other Laszlo Sary albums that are on Hungaroton, but no US seller seems to have them.
Not only do you have the Stunty record, you have the Second State pastover UNPEELED😮
I can retire now!

Thanks Hedley. The Vanaver settles down into a more typical folk record with vocals for most of the rest of the album, but nice guitar throughout.

Thanks Thijs. I can't remember if Stunty was responsible for this purchase or if he just confirmed that I was on the right track!
