@@woobinda65 agree. However I beleive the two are not telling the same story. GOC is much more tender in my opinion. The sex scenes in Reeds arnt gentle/learning (the son gets a pounding 45 min in, and later he tops), I do like both movies, but GOC is my fav. along with Mario 2018 - a beautiful movie, that needs a sequel.... (as does GOC, just to see the boys 5 years on, living/farming/loving....) x
This was really a beautiful film. Well acted, written and the cinematography was wonderful. No tragedy or anything, just two grown men falling in love over the summer. Beautiful. Even the ending makes sense if you follow the dialogue. It's similar to "God's Own Country" but this one stands on its' own because both characters are comfortable with their sexuality, are emotionally secure/mature and don't waste time with self-inflicted homophobia or artificial trust issues. Yeah, basically a love story for grown-ups. The title gives you a clue to how it ends but there is no "tragedy" or any trope constant in these types of films. Worth seeking out for a beautiful romance between two beautiful people.
Whoa. I just mean whoa. I don't really know you must have read between the lines and have different point of view. I felt that the movie's just damn silly, badly acted and executed. Tragedy is that the only person who loves the main character is his old daddy. To me this film was pointless, only a short lived sexual affair, nothing more. Obviously sex is important for guys, but these are so old already (and look like 26 yrs old) that they should have put more depth into it. Sexuality is more than just sex. That's only for teens who have never had any anyways who just think it's just penetration that counts. This is just a film made with a very bad taste.
Beautiful movie and cinematography, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the ending. The two actors had great chemistry and it’s wonderful to finally see a gay Syrian actor in a film even though his acting could use some improvements. Regardless, the movie was definitely worth the watch. Very similar to God’s Own Country.
I liked the fact that he didn't come off as a "skilled" actor. He had a raw natural feel. They both did, which for me made it all so more authentic. I almost felt like I was a voyeur to their relationship. Didn't feel like I was watching actors. I do agree though about the ending. It almost felt lazy. Like the writer couldn't be bothered to finish the story with a somewhat more realistic ending or continuation for that matter. There was so much meat to the body of the film and the ending fell flat.
The rawness, simplicity and beauty of how two strangers designed love in their own way. Complexity of this movie just sticks my heart so deep, shows how unequal (privilege issue) from Middle Eastern guy who wants liberty, respect and independence. Super touching story, the white boy himself plays the role so precisely beautiful (*and yes he's so beautiful) though my expectation for the ending wasn't wished, but I did enjoy the movie. A wholesome creation! 🤍

This was such a refreshing film to see coming from Finland. It's odd that this is still one of few gay films that exist although this country is supposedly open-minded. Perhaps there's still prejudice in the film making industry. Seems that this film was made with a low budget (albeit not looking like it) and funded by group funding rather than production companies. It's a shame if this is the only way to make queer cinema in Finland.
Cinematography is the best thing this movie has to offer. However, overall the movie is a poor attempt of creating a story behind a simple hook-up. The characters feel generic and the writer probably never met a Syrian (or any other) refugee / asylum seeker in his life; it's like he based Tariq based on what he hears on the news. I hated this film. It's just a very bad film. Badly acted, bad dialog. It may look good but it may just be the worst film ever. It just depends how young and vain you are. Took me forever to find the title of the movie! I saw it on Tubi and I never found it again!
Somehow the formula between *the work* , *the nature* and *the gay* always produces a good movie like Hawaii (2013) and God's Own Country (2017)
