Meh - tax isn't a huge % of the outgoings though, you're paying more on fuel tax than on road tax most likely. Tyres, if you're fitting good ones, they'll cost more than tax too. Maintenance and servicing waaay more of course. High tax isn't fun, I don't disagree at all with that, but I don't think it should matter enough to really impact the car you're buying.
Luxury > Performance. In a modern context anyway, since even a Golf GTi is fast enough for anything relevant. Real luxury though is hard to beat - that S class is just lovely. Fun > luxury though 😁

Don't get the Land Rover/Range Rover. Even the manufacturer will be very hesitant to insure the car. Especially in the UK.
