  • The Shadow Cursed Lands is arguably the most frustrating region to explore within Baldur's Gate 3. But in seeking to cure the land of it's affliction, we can engage in one of the most unforgettable sequences found in the game.
    Journey with me as I dive into the quest to save the spirit of the land from his binding circumstances. Showing the twists and turns of the complicated process to achieve such a feat, and how it bolsters the opinion of a certain grizzly figure many players have come to know and love.

    I hate to be the "um akshually" guy, but Halsin is a LOT older than 100. If you go through the dialogue to get to know more about him in camp, he tells you that he's 350 years old.

      This, and he also wasn't the leader of the Emerald Grove in their alliance with the Harpers against Ketheric. He only became the arch-druid by leading the surviving druids to safety after the previous one was taken by the shadow curse as it surged out from Moonrise Towers.

      @@FluffehBuneez are you sure? I found a journal titled “dead druids journal” says “as grave as Arch druid Halsin’s warning were” I’m not sure if he became Arch Druid immediately following the death of the prior Arch Druid. But the book is as old as the shadows fell and was around long before we meet Halsin. Again not sure just pointing it out because I had just read the book in my current play through.

      @elliotfiresf7298 he wasn't arch druid until after the curse fell. It's in one of his dialogues. He got the group of survivors back to the Emerald Enclave and became recognized as such. He sarcastically called it an "auspicious first day" as Arch Druid
      It's possible that the druid who died in the shadowfell went off on his own to gather more info about the blight since it was still in the beginning stages of the shadowfell

    it's cut content, but it's been datamined out of leftover early access voicelines that Halsin cares so much about going with you to Moonrise to "right some old wrongs" because he is actually the one that killed Isobel and as such feels that the rise of Ketheric Thorne and the fracturing of Thaniel/Oliver is all his fault. They really should've left it in, it adds so much context to his story that is sadly missing.

      @@FiguringOutFantasyagreed the only thing is, is that if this was the case Isobel would have been alive when the druids and Harpers would be fighting Kethrick who at the time was a follower of shar which would make no sense considering how devout of a follower Isobel is.

    • @AirLancer
      @AirLancer Месяц назад

      A ton of things were changed around with Isobel and Aylin. At one point Balthazar was the one who actually killed Isobel, and then framed Aylin (who was also very different, not being an Aasimar for starters) for it which is why Ketheric had her imprisoned in the Shadowfell. That version also actually made the Nightsong moniker make sense, since in the game now it's never really explained why Aylin is called the Nightsong, though you can piece it together through context.

    Halsin is not 100 years old.. he’s over 350 years old. 100 word be pretty young for an elf.
    Even aside from halsin telling us he is 350 years old, he helped fight when the shadow curse first befell the land. The nightsong, Dame Aelyn, tells us she has been trapped for 100 years - meaning that’s around the time the shadow curse began. So not only does a halsin tell us his age, but other clues in the game let us know he’s definitely over 100 years old.
    Aside from that this was a great video! Keep up the great work.

    In the beta and cut content, Halsin is the one who killed Isobel with the Sorrow halberd. For what and why reason you should simply write that off in your head, as it was only ever half baked. It can help to bridge his guilt with his involvement in the curse (beyond simply being in the battle). Ultimately Act 2 is exceptionally well written, with both this matter and Raphael pitting forces against each other in the Shar temple and gaming Ketheric for his immortality. Very good act.

      I heard it was in self defence. Isobel attacked him for some reason, and he ended up killing her defending himself.
      But since her death is what lead to Ketheric causing the Shadows, he feels that he's the one responsible for causing the Shadow.
      I honestly think it would have been a great addition, and added more depth to why he wants to cure it. Not just fixing nature, but fixing his biggest mistake

    I wish we got to have a second part to act 2.
    Act 2 is just so small in comparison to Act 3 and especially in comparison to Act 1. Each act has a binary function where there are two main parts-
    Act 1: Save the Grove, and then Underdark/ Githyanki Chreche
    Act 2: Moonrise Towers
    Act 3: Uncovering secrets via investigation and unintended events to form your allies, and going on the offense.
    Just such an amazing act that has so much potential that just wasn’t followed up on. Imagine getting to cleanse the land, then rebuild the land, rebuild moonrise, and saving the town. Save a grove, save a town, save a city. Slowly getting bigger and more grand.

    • @FiguringOutFantasy
      @FiguringOutFantasy  2 месяца назад

      I think you make some good points. Do you think the urgency within act 2 adds anything to the lack of immense depth in comparison to acts 1 and 3? The gauntlet of shar while still in relation to moonrise towers, felt like it’s own stint that took quite a while to regroup from afterwards. I think I would boil it down to the moment in the narrative that it takes place in as to why it may feel a little less expansive than the others.
      Thanks for such a well written comment!

      @@FiguringOutFantasy thanks for the response!
      In regard to urgency of act 2… it’s complicated due to the fact there’s a lot to do, but it feels much more conformed than the other acts. Act 1 you just wonder around until you make your own choices but in act 2 it’s more preset- explore the blighted lands… go to the meet the Nightsong, visit Ketheric, kill Ketheric. It’s a lot more of a linear plot and it just has side quests along the way.

    F***k the Shadowlands, I kept on going onto combat mode because I didn’t have my torch with me or have the faerie’s blessing. And even if I travel back to the Act 1 Area, the faerie’s blessings goes away meaning that I’ll be struck with the Shadow Curse. And if my companions die from the Shadow Curse, they get resurrected and turn against me. Plus there’s a group of Githyanki that block my way out of the Shadow Lands that’s a difficult boss fight because they tend to stun me, disarm me and chip a huge chunk of my health. It’s best that I help Halsin lift the Shadow Curse mainly because I don’t want other adventurers having to go through the same crap I’ve been through.

      Halsin by default is in your camp, if you rescued him from the Goblins and invite him to the camp. You then have to talk to the sleeping guy in the Last Light Inn and after that, you can inform Halsin in your camp about this guy. This will make him to go the Last Light Inn. If you then aquire the instrument from the House of Healing and bring it to the sleeping guy, that will make Halsin go to the beach and you can talk to him there to trigger the sequence where you have to defend the portal (which is really hard and requires preparation). Hope that helps.
