It's impossible to simulate the g-forces of an F1 car, you're not getting 5Gs out of a sim rig and this rig doesn't try to, so if it's just a bit of roll, pitch and yaw it helps a lot..
It looks like they have this rig turned WAY down, the pistons have far more travel than what is being shown here. My guess is it was too hard to film if cranked to 100%.
Those who have raced will be familiar with the sensations we saw towards the end when everything settled down, the inputs became more subtle and the car just seems to be where you want. The flow state. I only ever got as far as racing 2 stroke karts at club level but the objective is the same; temporarily leaving reality to access that bit of the brain where time doesn't matter.

It would be great to know which vehicle and tyres models have been used. I strongly doubt Ferrari has provided their F1 model. Unless they did, Stig has driven a F1 inspired model with is missing an engineering correlation with the real car.

It does, doesn't it? The graphics are properly outdated and this arcadey-looking gear indicator :) The underlying physics engine may be bespoke, but the world has this rF look to it.
It's funny that racing games are to an extent more advanced, they can take a hit of too much curb, but your car may be damaged even if you don't crash.

At 15:28 am I the only one that thinks that looks a bit weird? it almost looks like the wheel disconnects for a moment, but you can see the tires moving with his steering. Does anyone happen to know what happened there?
It was just the feedback from the bump he hit. Didn't look completely realistic in the video feed, but the way he corrected the steering was excellent.
It's not really made to look nice, all of the development focus goes on making the simulation accurate. The actual sim is probably rFactor Pro, so a circa 2013 graphics engine.
@@ElShogoso I heard rfactor has better tire model than this. Iracing has a tire and physics models just like in this video. Same instant 100% -> 10% traction change and high downforce cars flipping and doing other weird stuff from curbs.
You can appreciate why some drivers get so annoyed at their mechanic talking to them during the race. Imagine it while you're braking for most of those tight corners......
I’m the same way. Although help is appreciated it can be annoying when I’m getting frustrated and trying to accomplish the task at hand. Hovering is annoying sometime haha 🤷🏻♂️

Professional. I reckon it costs a lot of money to use that rig with them so there's no time to waste. Just like in an F1 team, everyone is 100% focused on the the effort. If Ben wasn't doing this a feature for YT, and was instead tuning the setup on his race car for an imminent event, he would be as laser focused as that engineer.
This video and others in this type of simulator would be way better if we could hear the sound your hearing Ben it's pretty uninvolving without the sound.

On the hairpin you have to open up first slightly before turning into the corner other wise you will lock up going straight to the wall . Don’t turn early. Open up then turn
“Just be conservative on these slow corners.” It’s Monaco, they are ALL slow corners!! And I wont be satisfied until Ben is on fire in the drink like that character from the Grand Prix movie.
Great content but I wish you would have maintained seriousness throughout the whole video like you did at the start and I say this because I’m tired of arguing about how sim racing is not me just playing video games. Some of us either use it as a tool to better ourselves and others do it for passion or monetary reasons.
So they are using same or similar garbage hard surface tire model as iracing. Quite insane that a 2,5 $ costing Assetto Corsa has better tire model at least in some aspects. I wish there was more actual inhouse effort put in to this, as most sim makers seem to be just buying the same physics engine and tire model.
This is really cool to watch but the camera switches view way too much. I don’t know about everyone else, but literally the only interesting thing to look at is the screen, and you keep switching to different views so it’s hard to enjoy it, and follow you around the track

yep the bumps were real and the yaw was unique to that system - the speed of the feedback ./ movement is what really sets it apart as well

Also try messing with break bias. Thought out each corner to see what makes you feel more comfortable at each specific corner

If Monaco was tight in the past I can't imagine how tight it is with present cars that are the size of a pickup truck.
So considering the price you'd think they'd have the curbs of turn 1 actually in place...
