I know it couldn't be more off topic...but as a dane I have to apologise for the idiots that trashed Prague. I been to the Czech Republic 5 times in my life and its such a beautiful country. First time I was in Prague I got lost from my mom on that famous bridge, I forgot its name. It took us hours to find each others again. To be fair I was the kind of kid you should have on a leash, I always escaped and went on my own journeys. I once bit a woman in Munich because she thought a 5 year old shouldn't walk around alone, she was rigth I escaped my mom in the metro. And when I was 4 I created a huge panick in a hotel in Portugal, I found a way to the roof and sat on the edge on a 5th floor building calling my parents who was in a panick looking for me.
I miss being a child.

"Český" is pronounced kinda the same way as saying "chess key" without the gap.
I'm Czech and when I was once on a vacation in Český Krumlov, I was shocked by the number of American tourists there. It was like I wasn't even meeting any Czech people, only american, German and Chinese tourists. 😅
I am 🇨🇿 born and raised in town of hussites, south bohemia region, hour from praque, everywhere I go its like this and we czechs became so numb to beuties of our country.. I need to watch these videos to be reminded we got to live in realy beutiful country
I know the feeling. I'm from Dalmatia (Croatia), living by the seaside, and I'm stuffed with sun, sea, beaches, islands... During the summer, I just want to go on the freaking Antarctica, to get me some freaking frostbites!

Btw the reason there are no neon sign is, that it is part of the UNESCO cultural heritage. In is historically preserved and you can do only modifications approved by people from a heritage comitee. (this is common in most historic town centers through out Europe)
Not just town centers. Anything declared heritage object gets such restrictions. Not always positive (depends on people as usual)
I worked in Prague for several years and Český Krumlov was one of my favourite places. Also not to be missed: Kutná Hora, Sedlec Ossuary, Karlovy Vary, Konopiště Castle, Karlštejn Castle and the Český Ráj region.

I wouldnt go to karštejn (worthless) .. if you want to see really nice medieval castles go to Pernštejn or Rožmberk. But I would prefer to go to chateaus like Hluboká or Lednice. The best cities to see are Karlovy Vary, Olomouc and Český Krumlov. From nature you can visit Pravčická Brána or Prachovské skály. and If you are in Prague the jewish synagogues are A MUST SEE - especially Spanish and Jerusalem synagogues. But there is just way more things to see than these main 4 spots which every tourguide offers (prague, kutná hora, karlovy vary and český krumlov).
And I have to agree that Konopiště is also good, it is on my top 4 czech castles/chateaus (Hluboká, Krumlov, Konopiště, Lednice), but foreigners usually go just to Krumlov which is pitty.
I recommend south Moravian region in czechia called Pálava it's literally like Italy 😅

Amazing to see Český Krumlov featured in ai like this. Also riding a river in the canoe is Czech classic. Too bad it's becoming very busy on the rivers.

@@Pidalin Unfortunately its the moravian gangs of "friends" and Prague corporate frat boys that are a literal plague to my beloved hometown, not even the foreign tourists, as one may think.
I was there this weekend, during my Rafting trip. it is such a loveley city.

Oh yes, Český Krumlov is an old Bohemian gem! It would be nice if you would come over for a vacation, Ryan. The Czech Republic is a quite affordable place for tourists and we have formidable beer. :)

@@daweka666 I do not think it will. Henry and sir Hans Capon are going to visit Otto III. of Bergau (Ota III z Bergova) at the end of the game. At the time he held two important castles among other holdings. Zbiroh which is due west from Sassau and Trosky which is due north. Henry and Hans are leaving the map in the northeast so most likely they are heading for Trosky (they were already in the east of the map to start with). Český Krumlov is in the south of Bohemia - south of Sassau. To raise your spirits a bit: 1) there are legends about castle Trosky - there are hidden treasures beneath it, gates of hell or gateways to other dimensions; 2) there actually are underground corridors below the castle forming a maze/labyrinth, nowadays it is largely collapsed and blocked; 3) according to another legend two main towers of the castle (Crone/Hag and Maiden) were later named after two female members of the Bergau family who were religious opposers, catholic and chalicist (pretty much hussite); 4) Even Andrzej Sapkowski used the castle in one of his books of the "Hussite Trilogy"; 5) it is very close to area called Bohemian Paradise which has really beautiful places. Check with google: Emperor's corridor, Pravčická Archway.
Edit: Yeah, they are going to Trosky. Radzig Kobyla even says Bergau is in the Trosky castle.

@@daweka666 Ok, sorry. Jsem nepoznal souseda. Pokud navážou okamžitě s dějem, tak by mě zajímalo, jak to vymyslí s dalším růstem Jindry. Respektive ten můj byl namaxovanej řízek, takže jak to udělat znovu těžký bez toho, že by se zrušil jeho předchozí růst. Možná by se konečně mohl naučit plavat. 😀 Akorát zase by museli řešit topení ve zbroji. Kdyby tam byl časovej skok, tak by i mohl trochu něco zapomenout - ne úplně, ale částečně. Anebo by tam mohla být nová navazující postava - plod Jindrovo eskapád.
I was born in Český Krumlov. Now i live 25 km from there 😉. It's a small town being visited mainly for castle and historical looking town. City center is basicly tourist attraction but it's realy beautiful.
Actually doing the kayaking trip starting about 15 miles before Cesky Krumlov and finishing about 20 miles behind it is an incredibly scenic and relaxing activity. If done between end of May and beginning of July, the weather will likely be very suitable too. You stop in the towns and camps, get a beer, look around and then continue on your way. Awesome activity for a long weekend.

It's extremelly overcrowded in summer though. And being in cottage near river and constantly hearing drunks on boats isn't the best.
@@fanta4897 you have to wake up sooner, ofcourse it's overcrowded when you leave camp in like 11 AM 😀 We did this route around Krumlov few years ago and we were "lucky" that we got rain and storms for like 2 days, so you didn't know if there is more water under your ship or above your ship 😀 I still don't understand how could I survive that without beying sick for 1 week 😀
@@Pidalin I don't have a problem with overcrowding in the sense that there would be too many people for me to go in a canoe (simply because I wasn't in canoe on Vltava for the past 16 years or so). I have a problem with overcrowding because as I said, I'm sometimes in a cottage nearby. I'm there all day which means that I have a problem with overcrowding in the sense that I hear almost constantly some noise from people on the river.
@@fanta4897 Yeah, that must be annoying, we have summer cabin few hundred meters from Sázava river and sometimes you can still here drunken canoists yelling and beating with paddles to boats or something. Honestly, I don't like this alco river riding culture, it's annoying and dangerous. When we were ridng Vltava, most of those camps were really annoying with really annoying people. There was a group of scauts from Belgium and they wanted to sleep and we had to explain to them that make noise whole night is just our culture and we can't do anything with that, they just need to use ear plugs. 😀
It is a VERY popular town with tourists, especially being a UNESCO world heritage site. You would love it. Most Czechs have a lovely soft accent in by the way, it is not harsh sounding. It reminds me of something like a medieval chant (Edit:melodius Gregorian chant). It is refreshing that Rick Steves has grown up and improved his reviews in the Czech Republic.
I don't know I'm Czech and I consider our language as not souding well and hard AF for non-Europeans. Maybe it doesn't sound so hard and harsh like German/Russian. Polish is like 50/50 mix of Czech and Russian languages. I would like to know how soft and lovely my accent is :)
I don't really find that to be true. We have probably harshest sounding language from the Slavic types. All other use a lot of žšč [zh, sh, ch], etc. we not really. Make it is the accent, which makes you think otherwise and yeah, Russians is further away from standard American way of saying things. We have more neutral one. But anyway, not really that important.
@@M1chlos There are harsh sounding consonants, however, the rythmic and tonal delivery of the accent I find really beautiful. ably too young or maybe never went to a Catholic mass before reforms were made in the 1960s. I was a small child then. Spoken Czech reminds me of high mass back when Catholic masses were still in Latin and the entire mass was sung on special occassions. I am from the USA but my father's family was from Bohemia and left in the 1880s so I do tend to romantisize it a bit. But, if you could hear what I hear when I listen to interviews on RUclips or Czech Radio with English subtitles, I think you might agree. Other languages don't have that rythm and tone.

Fair warning - it's about 80% as touristy as Prague. Not really a 'hidden' gem... But there are lots of beautiful Czech and Moravian cities similar to Krumlov😉
I go there every year for 3 to 4 days. But then I am Czech and have it just 2 and half hours by train. And I really enjoy my stay there!
I live in “the capital of the South Bohemia” - Budweis, so although Krumlov is 20 minutes driving away, I visit Krumlov as a visitor. I think the city is much more beautiful in winter. If you are lucky enough there is some snow and in the combination of the lights is amazing. In summer, you will be surrounded by endless crowds of people and tourists and the vibes of the medieval town is completely away.
And do not even try to drink local beer Eggenberg unless you have some suicidal thoughts (I know that locals would run those 15 miles just to punch me but I take that risk :) ).
I was there 10 years ago, it's a really beautiful city.

During the day, the historic centre of this town is quite packed with tourists. It's not been a 'secret' for at least 12 to 15 years. You have to stay overnight to enjoy quiet streets, late at night or in the morning (before 8).
Helo from Třeboň, Czechia. I stayed there in covid season and it was strange, the town was empty, if you met a person, you could say hello because of so few of them (maby a 10 within 2 hours). It was almost like before revolution again. I was there for a week and some people started to be seen at Friday aftrernoon and in the weekend.
@@drakulkacz6489 Hello from the Far East. I visited CK for 2 nights in 2015 and during the day up till 8pm, there were many people in the centre. The castle interior was very crowded. I also managed to see a performance in the Baroque theatre, and that was full house. However, in the morning 6 to 8am, the streets were almost empty of people. You folks are very fortunate to have such a beautiful country with many lovely towns (and cities), castles and chateaus everywhere.

I'm from Germany and I love česky krumlov. The nicest town I've ever seen.
My one and only seeing a ghost situation took place in český Krumlov castle. Powerful genius loci. It is pretty common there I was told....
i go kayaking there with gang of friends every year :D we always stop in Český Krumlov for a little tour and lunch with beer truly a special place and kayaking outside the city in the Šumava nature is also stunning.

BTW, you should react to Czech river riding generally, it's our tradition and all Czech did it at least few times in their lives, not all rivers have those fancy weirs with chute for boats, some rivers are pretty dangerous

If you want visit some place in europe, then cheapest and one of the most amazing places around is Cracow in Poland. Poland is generally realtively cheap, and you have cheap-ish flights there. worth to check that. Oh and maybe check some videos about "Malbork Castle"
I can´t believe that AI recommended, of all beautiful places in Europe, Český Krumlov. That makes me soooo happy. It´s a beautiful town and the atmosphere is great. Even despite of the tourists. If you ever go there, do visit a medieval tavern. It´s quite special experience and probably one of the few places where you can try the real Czech quisine.

I visited "Deutsch- Krumlov" acouple years ago. If you take a look at the bricks of the Castle- they are just painted on the wall .But it's a very nice medivial city with Cafes , Restaurants and Places to relax and watching the tourist jam
"Good for them. Growing numbers..." That's actually what a lot of people complain about - Český Krumlov is crowded with tourists, which takes the magic of the town away.
Český Krumlov has recently lost one of its two greatest landmarks. The oldest temporary roundabout was replaced a few years ago by a classic controlled intersection, but the daily commute still sucks. But the oldest temporary bridge, built after the great flood of 2002, still remains and it's worth seeing.
I visited from the UK in 2017, we drove around the Czech republic,Slovakia and southern Poland. Cesky is lovely as are many towns in Bohemia.
It's weird to call it "Český" because that just means "Czech" (adjective). :)

Bohemian as the location of Krumlov would be fine.
But renaming Krumlau into Czech Krumlov after the war would be odd, since Czechs only made up for one quarter before the Germans three quarters of the towns population were expelled.

As a Czech living in Prague it amazing to see people react to the beauty of the cities. I live in the center of Prague and its funny that i dont even think about the beauty of my city as i am very much used to it :D

This town is idyllic. Interesting things to see everywhere you look in the historical part so great for wandering around. Food and beer are great too. Perfect for a weekend trip or even a day trip.
Ah, my hometown. It certainly looks beautiful, but due to tourism it's almost impossible to live there. 20 years ago, people normally lived in the centre, nowadays people usually live on the outskirts and living in there in general is more and more difficult as grocery shops are closing down because they're no longer profitable. So the town now has like 3 grocery shops that I know of, but shitton of souvenir shops, pensions, hotels, cafe, etc. Not to mention that it's extremelly overcrowded with tourists. There were always some there as far back as I remember (I'm 25 years old btw) but extremelly large groups of tourists, especially the chinese are more and more common.

About 30 min away you find origins of one of the world most famus beers - Budweiser / Budvar. And be sure its nothing like the horsepi## you americans use to drink 😂
I am Norwegian and was in Cesky Krumlov last summer. I recommend you to go there, it was unbelievable fantastic. And Chech beer is the best in the world
Take a look at the small German town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. It is one of the most stunningly beautiful medieval old towns including a walkable city wall.
Rothenburg has medieval layout, but was also bombed during WW2. If you look closely you can see many houses are rebuilts / reconstructions and are not as detailed or crooked as original medieval and renaissance houses.
As a native born Czech raised in Austria/Canada, I find it super cool, that you react to videos about the Czech Republic. In all honesty, Czech people do kinda remind me of americans. Like it might be a Roman Catholic country, but oh my did I feel like amonst family members, whilst visiting the US. They love beer, all kinds of cars, guns, are unappologetic, and industrious, as well as hard working traditionalists. I was also laughing so hard, that I fell of my chair when you accuratly predicted, that Czech dads love to go camping and cayaking, and if the kids dont want, then thats too bad, cause youre going with him no matter what. XDD I have two, due to mom being divorced, and both took me every year for some camping and cayaking. I must have been an odd child, since I freaking loved that stuff. Till this day.

Yes, that place is the second most visited town in Czechia (after Prague) and is on UNESCO list. And the pronunciation of Český is starting as Czech (it means Czech literaly) - Cze-skee.
There is much more to see here, not just Český Krumlov. I live in this region also in a medieval and reneissance town of Třeboň (with complete townwalls) in completely rebuilt landscape from moors in the middle of the Biospheric Reservation of UNESCO. Here is a castle, nobility tomb, parks, brewery since 1379, preserved city, two spas and beautiful nature full of ponds, lakes and forests. I live in České Budějovice - a less than an hour from Český Krumlov (in the Czech Republic). Deffinitely both are nice places to visit - but Krumlov is so touristic, Budějovice are extremely beautiful too. 😊
1:25 As a Czech, I can confirm this is true. My dad took me on a kayak or some other small boat through Český Krumlov couple times.
This is definitely nice but I will say there are many hundreds (if not thousands) of these kinds of towns all over Europe. Too many to see in one lifetime, that's for sure. Come over and enjoy!
you know what's funny I was also on the water in Český Krumlov (I'm Czech). It was a week ago when the weir (hamberk) went down and I fell into the water, the boat capsized with me and I totally destroyed my knees to the point of blood... (3 stitches). Be careful, the water is beautiful, but very dangerous during heavy rain!

Considering some of the things you were amazed by, you wouldn't even need to visit Český Krumlov specifically (although it's execptionally beautiful of course) but plenty of other Czech towns. Historical buildings with no billboards and not many cars around are pretty common in many historical centres of towns here. Not every town has such a pretty castle though :D
Btw, the best beer of the world is not far away. You just have to go to Budvar to get the one and only real Budweiser. And pilsen, the home of the original Pilsner, isn`t to far away, too.

If he thinks Eiffel Tower is boring he might want to try the smaller "Eiffel Tower" in Prague on Petrin Hill best views ever and hey climbing all the stairs is a good exercise too.....
I also can recommend Český Krumlov to you 😊 my mon lifes 30 minutes away from the city and eventhough i am part Czech this was the first Czech city I visited. SO BEAUTIFUL 😍 And they also have bears in the city

I live in Krumlov entire my life :) but this video you watched is 13 year old....almost whole city is now repaired and its even more beautiful....unfortunately in summer is entire city full of tourists and rafters and kayakers, butt nice place to live.

I don't know if I write well because I don't speak that much English. But the Czech Republic has a lot to offer Český Krumlov is just one of tens of thousands of monuments, like 1 European pharmacy in the village of Kuks. I won't mention Prague Castle. The centre of Kutná Hora with the church of St Barbara. Or the National Stud Farm in Kladruby nad Labem, which is the oldest in the world and was founded in 1579. The Old Kladruby horses, a unique Czech breed of horses that has retained its typical Baroque appearance to this day, are bred here.
Spending your vacation in Cesky Krumlov or Czech Republic is cheaper than vacation in Florida. Definitely ;-)
Lol, I got a wheelclamp in Cesky Krumlov yeaaaars ago. We parked at a parking near the centre only there was a sign, in Czech, saying the parking was only for people living there. Only we and many others couldn't read that so several of us got a wheelclamp. We had to walk back to the centre and enter a scary police station with very thick doors. Luckily it was only 25 guilders (nowadays it's euros of course, it's a while ago) instead of the hundreds we probably would have had to pay here but still it was a bit scary. By the time we got back at the car, the clamp was gone and we could leave. We bought wooden toys, cars, in CK, it's well known for it.
Krumlov is amazing, although quite touristy. But I still love it! If you come in June, you would be there for festivals with music, dancing and historical costumes like the Baroque Night or the Five-Petalled Rose Festival :) (there's probably more, but as I am not local I know only about the famous ones)

The historical centre (the rest of the city is modern) is absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth a visit! Just be aware that it's incredibly touristy, overpriced and no-one actually permanently lives in the old buildings 😁 other than that it's definitely worth a visit. The castle is gorgeous as well.

You used the descriptive but keep in mind that there are fewer and fewer ferries in use every year so, there are also fewer ferry stories to tell.
And close by you’ll find Cezky Budedovice where they invented Budvar… the Budweiser!
