A Tired Victorian Home Turned Minimalist Interior

- Winter Architecture was approached to design a renovation and extension to a two-bedroom Victorian home. Now providing four bedrooms and two bathrooms, the minimalist interior is filled with light from the courtyards, soft oak flooring and clean, crisp lines.

I am a hardcore minimalist and I have to say that the designers nailed this one. I loved how there are very few ‘things’ but rather gorgeous and luxurious textures everywhere. The stair rail, the upholstery, even her jumper. Amazing.
I gotta say kudos to the interior designer. Minimalism is so hard to do right. I see so many clever touches. The shade of white is just right, with a cozy velvety texture. Some surfaces are brought to life with pastel greys and mint greens. The black furniture provides much needed contrast.
Well said and communicated 👏🏻
I just love this. Clutter free, stress free. How peaceful
I am absolutely not a minimalist but I love the courtyard they put in and the practicalities of the design!
There's a fine line between depressing and peacefulness. This one is just depressing
Just a little
Designer: “We’ve used Lemonade”
Me: “Lemon... ade?”
Me: “OOOH LAMINATE”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shame I think she was nervous. She also said "fluffy baby" earlier
@@frozeneternity93 yes, she was referring to a cat or dog.
There are closed captions to help you.
@@cath1895 Those annoy me because they take away attention for me from videos. Plus it was a joke. The video itself was very enjoyable.
The exterior of the house is the real star of the show. Such beautiful detail!
True
The designer is so beautiful
oh this is beautiful, so calm and serene. the courtyards are genious
Just awesome concept. I totally agree w. the philosophy of not having all spaces designated for the traditional idea of occupancy. We live in a tiny old Victorian style house that we had filled w. period antiques- lots of very beautiful pieces that after 7 years just felt like suffocating clutter. As of today we have no couch or upholstered velvet chairs. We do have a bit of cash from selling those, and a nice spare living area.
Can we all appreciate how serene and comfy the place is.
I would feel so tranquil living in this place
Wow the exterior is sooo beautiful!
This house looks very clinical to me.
Esp. for the exterior. It's extremely shocking.
Yes & I love it😊😊❤️
0:28 how long was that lady in the cupboard?
She literally went in, we hit record and she came out. Just had a bit of fun with the shoot.
Love the Zen vibes and intelligent design.
I like how thoughtful this has been designed with plenty of room for storage and not gigantic budgets. The only thing I would miss is an actual garden (not just pots) and that doesn't have to be big at all.
1:14 " ...even a fluffy baby..."
Hmmmmm....what an odd choice of words. My spidey senses are tingling...
Jean was referring to a pet such as a dog
@@SimpleDwelling i was imagining a fat baby.
Loved it

Ooooh... stage 4. Is that better or worse than stage 3.
Worse than Stage 3, more restrictions in place. For a personal example, I’ve legally not been allowed to film or photograph new projects.
Looks like Melbourne is on track to slowly reopen again so hopefully I can get back to filming soon.
Hi, thank you a lot... Unfortunately there is virtually no content on the site. Do you plan to update it?
There is no floor plan in the website. When will it be updated?
@@basilcoriander470 hi there, we've now updated the article with the floor plan;

I love this
This definitely was inspired by Japanese style decor.... 💞💞
Love it
beautiful. it's very peaceful. it invites for writing a book and doing academic research (my passion) :) thank you for inspiring us
You're most welcome!
Beautiful minimalist home - thank you for sharing. Wishing you much happiness.
Kitchens can get horribly expensive. I can see that one is low on budget...but it doesn’t look bad at all. Well done.
Good!
I get minimalism, but ONE counter stool?
Good job 👍 hello 👋 from Cambodia 🇰🇭
GREAT job selling the courtyard idea to the client. Not easy to minimize overalll sqm for quality space.
The title of this video is very clever.
Minimalism doesn't always own less stuff, i mean u can still enjoy buying things.
I got tired by colors in my surroundings, the noise and the clutters by other people, that's why i choose to own less stuff and surround myself with earth tone colors.
The level of minimalism is vary depending on yourself.
nice.
Love these videos. Thanks TDE.
Glad you like them!
I’d love a court yard. Is does make a place
Nice and clean, can you show the floor plans plz ?! thx in advance
I love this style and always will 💜
It’s really beautiful. Especially all the outdoor space and the edges and the light coming with it. Sometimes it’s definitely good to reduce some indoor space to get this very unique character and almost playful area.
What I (as a European...we kind of only use integrated fridges- at least before an unnecessary wave of US-American “style” invaded Germany/ Europe) will never understand: why don’t u use an integrated fridge? It’s SO MUCH calmer and cleaner..! ;-).
Couldn't agree more (coming from The Netherlands)
I’m also European and I know a lot of people who don’t have integrated fridges, myself included. They are more expensive and the selection is more limited. But in such a project the price increase for a neat integrated fridge would have been minimal so I agree it would have been absolutely worth it! What I really don’t understand though is why they didn’t at least choose a white fridge since everything else is white?!
However, pretty much everyone I know has an (at least partly) integrated dishwasher! The price increase is absolutely negligible. I think it’s unfortunate but somewhat understandable they didn’t choose an integrated fridge but it’s completely beyond me how anyone could have thought that ugly generic dishwasher there was a good idea. Everything else is so neat and minimalist!
They did mention that this property is a rental and in Australia, it's expected that you bring your own fridge with you (along with microwaves and washing machines). Most other kitchen appliances are included (e.g. stoves). But some rental properties won't provide a dishwasher, I guess because you could install a washing machine in that space if there isn't a laundry space.
Great video! I liked the clean kitchen and the courtyard.
The courtyard is a great space!
Except for the antiseptic feeling kitchen, i like what they did inside, considering that this is a rental.
I liked the kitchen. Just standard
stuff - no dishwasher ( uses lots
of water - especially in Australia,
that has droughts.) No utensils
and.... lying around. However,
minimal spaces and minimalism
is not everyone's cup of tea.
I also liked the kitchen. I’m a fan of many ‘designed’ kitchens, with extraordinary materials, but this one is a nice blank canvas that sets the stage for the main act.
On one hand, this is a brilliant interior. the courtyard is brilliant. The space looks amazingly usable. I can find no issue with it. I even think the point about having un-used space is really wonderful.
On the other, despite it's brilliance, walking in from that wonderful facade into that completely modern interior, I couldn't help but have my heart hurt a little bit.
♥️
Excellent

How much would a custom home like this cost to build?
This house is a lab.
Hence the minimal, impersonal environment; lack of personal objects.
Notice the two cloned test subjects chat @ 2:45 - impersonally, of course.
This is minimalist but not cold and sterile; somehow warm, sleek and tranquil at the same time. Also, this is a rental!?
Where can one buy the pedestal dining table?
All the furniture is from Southwood;
www.southwoodhome.com.au/
The furniture is gorgeous
Not to get defensive, Pod, but the price is reflective of quality and craftsmanship, it isn’t IKEA (and I say this as someone who buys from IKEA)
Looks so small and claustrophobic. But I guess the rent must be low.
as someone coming from hk, now living in syd. i consider this a nice size home lol
Does anybody know the designer or manufacturer of that round diner table?

🧑: mom, someday i want have it like this.
🧕🏻: work, work work, and make it.
Talk about gentrification
And then ironically acknowledges the ancestral lands...I was kinda hoping to see that they were giving it back.
i'm sure they could have fit some sort of garden at the back/ side. even a narrow bed with boston ivy would be possible.Such a DEPRESSING rear courtyard looking out to that shitty pinelap. Nice interiors though. Like all TDE videos we get to watch people open sliding doors VERY slowly, again and again...
This was filmed shortly after construction was completed and before the owners moved in, so the garden was yet to be planted or grown in place.
Wished you guys showed more of the house instead of the same 10 scenes over elevator music.
Your imagination is superb. You are great. More grease to your elbow.
I get this is peoples cup of tea but this feels so cold
A house like this without a dishwasher? 😅 not sure if that’s the right choice
It is a odd choice when you think bout the fact that the house has 4 bedrooms.
@@simexn as it is it's just me and my husband and we NEED a dishwasher or else we can't function what more a house with potential kids?
I have never had a dishwasher and one would not fit into the small kitchen in our current house. I cook, my husband washes the dishes-we are both fine with the arrangement.
@@maroulio2067 Yes but this is quite a big house with multiple rooms (for kids and guests) so why not have a dishwasher?
1:49 the designer claims that the kitchen is so beautiful despite using standard stuff, yet the video tries to hide the ugly non-integrated dishwasher there and only shows the fridge for very brief periods of time as well. Seems like someone doesn’t really share her opinion ... And what exactly would have been non-standard about an integrated dishwasher? Of course, they’re standardized! IMO it’s such a pity they didn’t integrate everything because the kitchen looks quite nice otherwise and gets by without super-expensive materials.
The apartment is a sculpture and a pice of art. I think it`s important that the owner, not just fill up the empthy spaces with " stuff". If the room is filled with all kinds of materialism then the atmosfare is not the same
Well, of course it's beautiful now, but please show me this home after few month of some family living there. Especially children, they'll go crazy in such ascetic(boring really) spaces. I don't really understand, why designers can't use colour? Everything white/beige/grey, and of course - sterile white kitchen that will empower every greasy small spot after cooking into devastating interruption. Hopefully future inhabitants will fill this neutrality with some emotions.
Full and lifeless
aka ruining history
So true. I don't understand why Australia has this obsession with clinicalising and 'gentrifying' old places without keeping any remnants of the buildings history like they do in the US incorporating old and new thoughtfully. It's criminal facadism and shows a lack of creativity and the clinical cosmetic surgery clinic look will be dated in fifteen years. If you want a new house, live in one, if you don't like old houses, don't completely destroy them for those who do or want to renovate and modernise sympathetically. To say its good is cap.
I see it differently. When that house was built it was the latest fashion and most likely furnished as such. Living in my own era with current conveniences is better than going back 150 yr. or so. The facade had to stay- that's enough history for me.
This looks like a cult basecamp.
Fluffy baby?
A dog, maybe also a cat but doubt they'd listen to you anyway.
