UCG 2001 article says the following in an article on Apostasy: "What these two scriptures describe is a time coming in the future, the “falling away” (2 Thessalonians 2:3), when “some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy” (1 Timothy 4:1-2). The event is explained as a precursor to the coming of God’s Kingdom (2 Thessalonians 2:2-3) and something that believing Christians must be on guard against". The translation of "rebellion" can lead to the wrong conclusion that the general population will follow the false teaching. However, apostasy assumes that an individual HAD the truth, but left it. Therefore, there must be a significant "falling away" from the truth relating to God's Church just prior to the revealing of the false one.
Interesting sermon but you didn't really mention the significance of the red heifer - killed outside the camp - able to cleanse. Christ said all things needed to be fulfilled. The red heifter without blemish perhaps a type of Christ.
