Can anyone explain why in Mt.16:18 NT Greek translators render epi in the dative case as "on"?
Notice that they abide by the rules and translate the same preposition, also in the dative, as "with," in Mt.18:26.
It seems to me that the translation (mistranslation?) of this verse is the foundation of the great apostate church.

Hi, @Mike Licona . Can either you or Dan comment on the existence (or non-existence) of titles mentioning the names of the Gospel writers in the Gospels? We know that the BODY of the text is anonymous, with respect to explicit authorship, yet there seems to be some question about TITLES in the original manuscripts. Brant Pitre has made an argument that the titles are actually in the oldest Greek manuscripts. I thought the titles were NOT present in the oldest manuscripts. Can you all clear this up please?

And also please help me where can I learn biblical languages ( Greek and Hebrew) I want to memorize them as they'll help me to teach the Bible and to be selective in translations, since I'm looking for a translation that is faithful to the original language of the Bible.

@@Mr-pn2eh Mr-pn2eh you deserve a smack in the face for that comment. Sources seem to indicate Erasmus added to Acts 9:5-7 therefore it is on us to research. If you are going to say "it's divine book and it preserves itself" you are a liar. No where can you find a verse states it will remain perfect in fact it does state some stooges could add or subtract from the book in they want to taste God's wrath.

    Hi Mike,
Bart Ehrman always makes the point 'yes, the manuscripts we have are old and take us back to the 2nd-3rd century, but how do we know that the first copyists didn't make mistakes or add to the text bla bla bla..." Could you have Dan address this since (at least to my knowledge) he has always simply made a comparison to contemporary literature (which is a valid point) but I was wondering if geographical distribution and various translations would also demonstrate that the probability of a different text than what we have is extremely low. Bart seems to present (at least in his debates) a linear view of transmission which allows him to cast doubt on the text we have today vs a text being copied by multiple people with a vast geographical distribution.
    Thanks

God bless the modern textual criticism of these beloved modern scholars for truth. It taught me not to take the Bible literally. It gives me assurance in the inspired (not preserved) word of God. I use to use the KJV, but now I like to use multiple different translations for my personal study. I take the Old Testament from the NASB, I take the gospels from the NIV, I take the Pauline epistles from the ESV, I take the general epistles from the LSB, And I Take Revelation from all of these translations combined.

Hi, Mike. As you know, Bart Ehrman has published a book on Heaven and Hell. I haven't read it yet. But it seems there are some solid arguments to it, once even christians like Peter Enns have trouble believing in hell, from a historian's perspective. What's your take on it? It would be great if you, maybe with a guest of yours, could address those arguments. Good bless you!

    • @piano9433

@Michele Simmons Lewis It's true. It's not a easy thing to have our beliefs challenged. But today i personally don't believe it's a honest thing to hope they (atheists) listen to us when we are not willing to do the same with what they have to say.

    • @piano9433
      @piano9433 4 года назад +1

@Michele Simmons Lewis I see your point, sister. But it's not an argument. It doesn't make his arguments false. We have to deal with them anyway. Do christians understand scripture? It seems a pretty dumb question, doesn't it? Until you look how many differences there are among us, on every topic imaginable. I agree that the things of God seem foolish to those who don't believe. I agree with Paul. But it's not so simple. Imagine a muslim arguing that we can't see the truth of the quran because we are suppressing the Allah's truth in rebellion? It's what many of us do with atheists and people in general. It's not so simple.

To be fair to you Mr Licona, while you seem to follow this school of thought, I don't think you understand what they are really saying, and was wondering if you would be interested in talking with me privately on this issue so you can hear the other perspective from an Anglican.

A separate publication could be okay but I think we have what God wanted us to have already. Just because something was written in the 1st century doesn't mean it is inspired; it has to meet certain criteria that conforms to the message we already have.

40:40 That's a pretty big claim that the Renaissance was based on original writings.
The reason we care whether the New Testament is accurate is because the claim that it was written by eye-witness martyrs. Plato's writing could be later interpolations, or Plato himself a complete fabrication. It's the writing itself that is important not the writer so these are not comparable.

Dan, I know you are not going to see this, but maybe someone will relay it to you. You spoke of a man who subscribed to dynamic monarchianism, but was not affiliated with the JWs, and you mentioned finding the two characteristics in one theologically speaking was rare. If you were not already aware, there is a group called "Gospel Assembly," that began in 1914, centered around the teachings of an ex Louisville Police Officer named William Sowders. He had some very strange ideas, some of which included subscribing to Dynamic Mon., Pentecostalism, Holiness, the denial of a literal hell and devil etc. All things considered, they are a somewhat large group.

I still say the KJV 1611 Oxford edition by Gordon Campbell is the best bar none Period no debating it. I spent a fortune on bibles, but that is not the trick to knowing which one is the best. It takes years of deep study and understanding the voice of God to know the one that fits what he would say. with this said even the KJV 1611 has some things translated wrong but as he said very few of the mistakes change the meaning. I have found about 4-5 big mistakes the rest just small mistakes. But good video post .
