Only one member has ever invoked the mutual defence clause in the NATO treaty that that was the USA after 9-11 The result was NATO members stepped up to the plate. RAF Tornados were taking out runways right at the start of the action VC10 tankers were refueling US Navy and other coalition aircraft, RN ships and Lynx helicopters and Royal Marines taking out assorted attack craft in the Persian Gulf. British Army infantry AFV and the mighty Challenger tanks fought hard in the dessert, not forgetting air sea and ground transport and logistics
So did lot of the European countries.. As Denmark we participated from the first day the fight was taken up against terrorism after 9/11 Where we took our part in Helmanprovince ... Yes, also before Afganistan, we participated in the fight against Iraq from day 1, as a number of other European countries also did .. it was outside of Nato's auspices. . So time and time again Europe has stood there when it was and still do. So Mr Donald Trump can believe what he wants, the reality is just different..
You better take serious what he said because trump wants to remove America from NATO and create civil war and no country will interfere because you will out of NATO. Trump wants to rule America like dictator and he will change laws and pardon all criminals who attacked the capital and it will live in fear of dictatorship. I m from Scotland and everyone is worried about America because trump will destroy democracy. Vote blue to save democracy.
Total agree, Bolton stayed silent so he could sell books. I wouldn't buy one of his book to level up table leg. As afar as I'm am concerned he has put own personal interest ahead of his own country which makes him no different than Trump. The only reason he has written a book now is if by some remote possibility Nikki Haley is elected he could obtain a position in a Haley administration.
There is no area in which he is not fatally ignorant. Remember him promising the people of Colorado that he would finish the wall between Colorado and Mexico? Or him bragging about meeting the Prince of Whales? The Washington Post has a collection of well over 30,000 such ignorant remarks. He truly is on a par with a 4th grader.
@@bobburford9452 Encyclopedic ignorance. The inevitable consequence of not being able to read above a fourth grade level. Pity those to whom this is not glaringly obvious.
Trump equates Putin being his friend to Russia being an ally of the USA. Same with North Korea. He honestly thinks the whole world revolves around him.
You should be embarrassed to repeat lies...Trump promised to make America energy independent and he did, he promised open up coal mines in Pennsylvania but instead "He stabilized the mining industry after years of losses under Obama, then pandemic began......." ( "The Philadelphia Inquirer"). He promised to move US Embassy to Jerusalem and he did ( Obama and the rest of them promised that too but didn't have a stomach to comply with campaign promises). He promised to stop illegal immigration and he did, vetting process was moved to Mexico which provided 28K soldiers to oversee the new policy and US didn't pay a penny. He promised to make economy prosperous and he did, 70% of Americans called it "excellent or good". ( if you wish to challenge me on this I refer you to ABC Marsha Radatz interview with Democratic billionaire Tom Stayer who decided to run for President in 2020 on economy ). He dismantled ISIS ( entire political and military teams advised Obama not to withdraw the troops from Iraq but he did, created vacuum was immediately filled up with people called themselves Caliphate ) as he said he would. He rebuilt military giving generals all they asked for and have created a Space force ( China and Russia full steam ahead with Space force and Biden canceled that). Creating operation "Warp Speed", showing tremendous leadership at the toughest times for the nation the vaccine was developed and delivered to America for less than a year when nobody believed possible laughing at it calling it "Trump's vaccine". He asked NATO members to do 2% of the GDP as they supposed to and they did except Germany and we all see today how right he was. He signed into the law " The First Step Act" allowing convicts ( predominantly Afro Americans who served longer than half of their sentences for nonviolent crimes ) out of prison as a 2nd chance ( and Van Jones from CNN standing behind the President was applauding him...). The most impressive achievement of a Biblical proportion is an "Abraham accord" creating a peace in the Middle East region and nominated for Nobel Peace Prize ( I think two times, all the Presidents of the United States starting with JFK tried to bring peace to the Middle East, everyone of them........failed ). If Obama who I voted twice for ( has sent " Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace " led by the WH appointee George Mitchell who came back empty handed ) did third of it not to mention half of it Democrats, Medea and you too would call him Greatest President ever but he didn't. President Trump did. Did I mention record unemployment for all of the minorities in this country? He stopped N Korea testing ICBM flying over Japan, capable of reaching United States and made them to meet with S Korea for the first time in history of both Koreas (absolutely remarkable achievement in foreign policies). He made the World a peaceful place for the entire four years making America great, working for the People and not for the special interests groups, marking his years in the White House as an unequivocal success he did every one and each campaign promise in spite of being distracted, harassed, viciously attacked and openly sabotaged by all of the Media, Big Tech, hostile Congress and everybody else who wasn't lazy on the daily bases with one purpose only to bring him down. The most honest and effective President by far.
Agreed 💯% you hit that one out of the park, x45 is so ignorant about everything, when he first got elected it wasn't but a couple months after he said that he had read the constitution and basically he could do what ever he wants.... that's what dictator's do....not here in America we the people won't let that happen
You mean how he licks putties boot sole? How he fawns all over Putin? How he sucks up to Putin and refuses to criticize Putin? Boss or Boyfriend trumps knees hit the ground anytime Putin looks at him.
Every country should put itself first. You can still cooperate with other countries but you can only rely on yourself. America was the greatest influence. Not anymore.
So far, we - NATO- needed US approval of using nuclear weapons, the USA were our custodians. When the US is pulling out of NATO, we have to rely on "ourselves" and any conflict with Russia will have s strong "nuclear" smell of threat. I realize that very well. Also Putin will KNOW that NATO without the USA will have a firm Nuclear capacity, next to conventional - which I prefer of course. I am a retired Nato Staff Officer and have been posted on several jobs around Europe and the Middle East, including being involved in those strategies. I'm completely fed up with the hollow threat of Trump. Let the USA elect their "JESUS" for president and isolate themselves on their continent. Europe AND NATO-Europe can mow their own lawn, especially since the recent contribution in joining Finland and Sweden. Whenever the USA is experiencing a new 9/11 type of thing, or Pearl Harbor type of happening, DONT CALL US!!! We THEN are too busy in mowing our lawn!!!!!!
Totally agree my friend! As often in life, we learned what we think will be bad ends up being very good. Or happen for very good reasons. So let Americans choose n follow that liar, n isolate themselves. It’s more than time we wake up n rebuild our military complexes. Time will tell, we can do it in our own… It will be expensive n take sometime, but we can! And in the end it will not harm only Russia. Meanwhile all the world -Ukranians first- is watching n learning the lesson, how reliable they are as allies…

@@petepierre6458The information that you just copied and pasted is correct. NATO has proven to be there for the US, after 9/11. I was at the old Motorola suburban HQ when 2 F-16's intercepted and escorted a United flight to O'Hare after a disturbed man tried to get into the cockpit, the windows were rattling when they screamed by; the jets were from Norway. Canadian Coast Guard extended their patrols all the way down to Florida and California, British and French navies parked offshore while even Japan (not a NATO member) was offshore in the West.
That's only after 9/11 but so many countries actually followed US in Iraq and Afghanistan with huge casualties for their soldiers there and in their own countries... None went there to have some fun, they went to support US after activating article 5.
Bolton is wrong. A massive attack on Iran would ramp up their actions. The Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor did not get a "we've got to negotiate with Japan" response. Why does Bolton think attacking bases inside Iran would get a "we've got to negotiate with the US" response?
Bolton sells war for the defense industry. He ducked Viet Nam but if it was up to him we would have millions of Americans dying in China, Venezeula, Ukraine, etc... check his previous stands.

The President is the commander in chief, he can unilaterally bring the troops and hardware back home. Unless there is a military coup, they would return.
He doesn’t have to officially pull out of NATO, as commander in chief all he has to do is make it clear that he will not be sending US Troops to fight in any wars for NATO Members and cease cooperation
Ronald Reagan, a true conservative, Patriot and Republican is rolling in his grave that someone calling themselves a conservative would back out of NATO and let Russia have Europe.

Well if that’s how you feel about Americans then how about we leave NATO and you can show how great you are without Americans. It should be no problem correct?
Probably not, and that is a problem not only for the US but potentially for the world. Nor is it a problem which just arose yesterday, although the Trump cult with its anti-intellectualism certainly seems to make matters worse. Trumpism is the exaltation of stupidity in politics. Bolton's argument ina capsule: MAGA, in the eyes of the Russians and the Chinese, means Make America Go Away. He started by surrendering to the Taliban. They blame poor Biden for that, but the Biden administration only botched the withdrawal. They were not responsible for the capitulation to reactionary, misogynistic islamist guerrillas.
What a two-timer Bolton has proved to be. First it was all about the book, now he wants to have the Trumpster re-elected just as long as he can sell a few more copies.
"People always want to know my feelings," Trump says. If that's the case, it's only to learn early (1) who he's defaming now, (2) what his next lie is going to be, (3) what trial judge is currently holding his feet to the fire, (4) which parts of our Constitution and the rule of law he's attacking now, (5) what heretofore unproclaimed aspects of his fascist intentions for America will he disclose now, or most likely, (6) all of the above.
After reading many of the comments below, I know for sure what I will do if USA ever get into serious trouble again, like after 911, and call out for aid: I will forbid my son to go help, and explain to him that despite how people in the family traveled several tours to Afghanistan, risking life and limb in the War on Terror, people in USA don't deserve help like that again, since they don't care about the people they've been allied with for 70+ years, nor do they remember that we fought to defend them, and they don't even know that they have been getting more money from our country, then we have from them, in cooperation where we have produced weapons used by both sides.

I totally agree. There is one person who should be called Pres. X and his name is not Carter, Clinton, Bush, Obama or Trump. It's Biden. Hillary Clinton is Ms. Clinton, and you don't have to worry about whether you should address her as Senator or Madam Secretary. The current senators from NY are Schumer and Gillibrand and the current Secretary of State is Blinken. "Oh, we're just being courteous." How are "Mr." and "Ms." not courtesy titles? Am I being addressed discourteously every time someone puts "Mr." in front of my name?
Technically you are correct. Once a person has left a position, the title attached to that position no longer applies. But I would'nt put such a paranoid construction on the habit of retaining honorific titles past their due date. It is probably intended as a mark of respect. It's a different case when election deniers address Mr. Trump as 'president' based on the false claim that he won the 2020 election. Of course in Mr. Trump's mind, any process in which he does not gain the upper hand must be corrupt, illegitimate, etc. the man is an egomaniac, to be sure. That alone is sufficient reason why he should not be entrusted with foreign policy. I think Mr. Bolton's main point is correct.

Our NATO allies have been with us on every conflict the U.S. has engaged in. We need our allies as much as they need us for national security reasons. Also, the U.S. is the wealthiest nation on the planet and thus we should not complain about what $$ we contribute to NATO.
What does the American contribution consist of? We buy almost all defense material from the Americans. Airplanes, missiles, nuclear weapons, etc. What are American troops doing in Europe? They bring with them all the American brands and we become consumers of American products. We Europeans, in addition to helping Americans in many conflicts, also help the American economy and the USA's affirmation as the leading nation on the planet. Of course we gained some things from the American presence in Europe, it helped stabilize relations between European states and avoided wars and the construction of the EU. Russia's defeat will be a good thing for the EU and the USA, democracy may be established in Russia.
Pretty rich for Trump to say "I don't think they'd be there for us" when the US sat out WWII until getting Pearl Harbored by Japan. The fact of the matter is, the rest of the NATO countries are always there to support whatever US-led war effort is taking place. The reverse is not true. So feel free to pull out of NATO. All it will mean is the remaining NATO countries will exchange nuclear weapons with each other, so you'll be living next to a Canada armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons purchased from Britain and France, in order to fend off a potential invasion from Russia or China (since you wouldn't be there to help us out any more against those adversaries).

Trump, the other members of NATO were there for the US with the 9/11 attack. They all (with Australia included) supported the US Afghanistan war effort.
I would suggest that this entailed 'mission creep' for NATO, nevertheless it demonstrated the loyalty of NATO's weaker members toward their putative (or self-proclaimed) leader. But Trump seems incapable of gratitude toward anyone. He is certainly not grateful for services rendered by non-American NATO forces in Afghanistan. After all, it was Trump who decided to capitulate to the Taliban, exposing to grave danger or death thousands of Afghan assistants to NATO forces He is eager to surrender much of Ukraine too Putin on behalf of the ukrainians. I have no doubt that he would deliver Taiwan or South Korea to the devil if he could. He is the most pro-Communist Republican president in US history, not that Communist ideology exists anymore in a meaningful sense, but the decayed remnants of former Communist systems do still compel loyalty in some places.

The result was NATO members stepped up to the plate.

Yes. The USA is now an unreliable friend and ally.
As was Canada… Look at what happened in Gander,
us romanians helped as well with troops and equipment. sure, we are poor but we helped. for trump to say that Nato allies wouldn't help is despicable.

Folks, this is a look into how conservatives feel about everything. “Why help the, poor, immigrants, homeless, single mothers, education, healthcare etc we get nothing out of it.” This mentality is wrapped in hyperindividualism and an extreme lack of understanding how these thing benefit us as a whole. Same for wealthier paying a proportional share.
Republicans need to start campaigning on free glasses to all republican voters since they're all so short-sighted.
This is what I don't understand about the US of A politics. How come just one individual, namely their President, can make such a decision on his own ? Is he some sort of de facto King ?
The American system of government is Roman in this system the president is the Ceasar
Trump gave us PEACE!
We got nothing out of you except grief but here we are right? Shows you the stupidity of some people?
"we got nothing out of you"? Which "you"? (the reporter, the speaker, or the audience of this clip?) Who are you talking about?
"but here we are" .. yeah, it's 2024, we are here in this year. Why is that important?
"Shows you the stupidity of some people?" What is showing this stupidity? Some actions? Which people do you mean are stupid? And why is that last sentence a question? Are you asking me who I think the stupid people are?
Needs to also come out of United Nations , WEF , and WHO , and their controlling dictate
You forgot the WTO
I remember when this stuff used to be considered Kremlin propaganda, now it's just republican politics.
Go Trump!
What would you expect of a Russian asset?
You need help !
NATO is the most important alliance in the world. Keep in mind, Putin is the sole reason for this strife in Europe, specifically Ukrain. Without Western European assistance, Ukrain would be unable to continue to resist Putin. It’s not the Russian citizens who are causing this, it’s all the fault of the crazy megalomaniac who is currently the president of Russia. Slava Ukrain and Russia. ❤️❤️❤️❤️😎☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
NO, THAT WOULD BE BIDEN
@@DAVIDMAINORD... have u poured hot tar in ur brain?
He should start a new NATO with Russia as the main partner!
Europe has provided twice as much aid to Ukraine compared to the USA. The USA is spending 90% of it's military aid in the USA and only gives 10% to Ukraine, although that's mostly for decades old military scrap. As for NATO, USA only provided 16% of funding in 2023 - about the same as Germany.
Thats actually very true.... Facts of reality...
But what they don't see in the US.... Those 90% are creating jobs in the states and basically they are profiting from this war... Their military industry has never had such great times as now...
All this Trump propaganda has blinded them 👀
That colossal fool didn't know NATO even existed when he was first elected. He won't be re-elected, once bitten, twice shy.
The only reason no European Countries have ever had to invoke Article 5 is because of the US Troops in Europe protecting them and serving as their deterrent for the past 80 years. So stop acting like USA is the one who benefits from NATO protection as if NATO bullying defenseless third world primitives in Afghanistan after 9/11 was some huge heroic sacrifice. Europeans are the ones who massively benefit from NATO. USA does not need NATO, USA can protect its self from any foreign army that dares try to invade the USA.
No foreign army is gonna invade the USA, the USA is completely capable of defending themselves from a foreign occupying army without NATO, it is Europe that needs USA’s deterrent and protection via NATO, not the other way around.
Afghansitan was a war of choice and should have never happened anyway, it lasted 20 years and all it did was waste trillions of dollars. Afghanistan was not a war against a army powerful enough to invade and occupy another country which is the type of war that Europeans expect America to fight for them, not some ragtag impoverished sandal wearers shooting rusty AK-47s and IED’s.
Afghanistan is not the same kind of war that Europeans expect America to fight for them when they are invaded by a great power like Russia. The type of war that Europe would drag us into would result in hundreds of thousands of killed American Troops and possible nuclear weapon exchanges.
This is not comparable to Afghansitan what so ever. Afghansitan was basically a live fire exercise for NATO. It’s an impoverished third world country of illiterate primitives who had no air defense systems or modern weapons.
Trump is saying he doubts NATO would help in a real war against a great power that would actually require real sacrifice. Afghanistan was like bullying a defenseless third grader who can’t fight back. It’s not like it was some heroic sacrifice.
And considering that so many European countries STILL don’t spend 2% on defense even though the bar was set in 2006 shows that Trump is likely right. Europeans weren’t even willing to sacrifice getting off cheap russian oil after 2014 when Russia invaded Crimea. They had 8 years to get off Russian Oil and instead of doing that they furthered their dependence even more by building NS2
If Europeans weren’t even willing to give up cheap russian oil after they invaded Crimea what makes you think they would be willing to sacrifice defending the USA from a Chinese or Russian invasion?
**Compares entire continent to a single country**
I believe it. Trump is a Putin operative and Putin needs the USA out of Ukraine. However, the point that other counties are not paying their fair share is accurate. Other NATO members are not paying their fair share just as the super rich in the USA are not paying their fair share of taxes.
Conspiracy theory alert
NATO isn't as rich as the USA. They can't pay any more without sending Europe into a depression.
Good point though that point needs data. It is a common belief and considering the massive Iraq War Debt. the US has it is a concern.@@bobblacka918
Europe just forked over $50 billion to Ukraine, that's doing their fair share. There are 90,000 NATO troops on the Polish border from all Countries to stop Putin's invasion, he won't stop until he's defeated and the treasonous GOP he said are his heroes. That's effed up!! SAVE DEMOCRACY VOTE BLUE 💙💙💙
Point taken. @@Daria-dp8to
Donny is out 83 million for his actions
Welcome back Tara. Say hello to Joe for me.
Finally, Trump is being served up some justice.
He turned $5mil into $83 mil in a couple of months, how can anyone claim he's not a financial genius?
@paulgibbon5991 most financial genius don't file bankruptcy
@@JerryWalker-u3p It was a joke--turning a small number into a big number is usually a good thing, but certainly not in this case.
I didn’t vote for trump the first time but all this chaos and bashing plus I see how much things have gone up in price I’m voting for Trump 2024 the media itself the lies and evil made me turn now to Trump
It's the one reason I would vote for him, getting out of nato
I’m so glad Bolton isn’t in the White House. Like Kissinger, he spouts poor policy with a somber voice like he has something significant to say. I’m always so unimpressed by the content of his thoughts. It’s thinking like his that gets us in such deep trouble overseas, in my opinion.
Trump, the other members of NATO were there for the US with the 9/11 attack. They all (with Australia included) supported the US Afghanistan war effort.
NATO was not needed for that. MAGA. Look where it lead us.
After all, it was Trump who decided to capitulate to the Taliban, exposing to grave danger or death thousands of Afghan assistants to NATO forces
He is eager to surrender much of Ukraine too Putin on behalf of the ukrainians. I have no doubt that he would deliver Taiwan or South Korea to the devil if he could.
He is the most pro-Communist Republican president in US history, not
that Communist ideology exists anymore in a meaningful sense, but the decayed remnants of former Communist systems do still compel loyalty in some places.
Read Bolton's book for FREE at your local rePUBLIC library. Don't feed the greed machine.
Trump would leave NATO and form an Alliance with Russia and North Korea.
Nano is a corrupt they keep pushing for the Ukraine war
yeh you're paying for Nato and get all the multiple returns back resp. your energy and military companies , whereas Europe doesnt get anything for their pay , they just pay!
If as and when the US leaves NATO, Europe will see whether or not they got anything out of it
@@richardenders6606 fair point, but what has it got to do with my comment ?
There was a time I was not a fan of NATO and I didn't think it was important for us to be in NATO. Putin totally changed my mind and of coarse Trump follows Putin. I believe it would make Putin elated if Trump became the President. I think if that happened, we could be close to having the USA like Russia, and even the higher ups in our Government would also be in trouble.

I think if Trump said he liked MSNBC you’d have to start hating MSNBC immediately

Well I guess you think we are just doing lovely under this joke of a administration ? I bet you say that while behind the security of a gated community and while not having to deal with say the border that is wide open and not to mention the Inflation the scamm of politicizing the dept of justice the FBI and anyone else they can get to go along with their sham. But I almost forgot you probably aren't affected by the same economy that the rest of us have felt for sometime now especially if you feel more secure under biden then the way we was just a few short years ago. Ask that new York police officer how he feels about the current administration. Sad I tell you that someone can be so out of touch with what it is really like
Rubbish!
Most wont be there. Except fot the UK
Being in nato is like have a friend that wants to antagonize big guys and then expects you to protect him… no thank you!
Congress has approved legislation that would prevent any president from withdrawing the United States from NATO without approval from the Senate or an Act of Congress. The measure, spearheaded by Sens. Tim Kaine (D-Va.)
"Let's say we were attacked, I don't believe they'd be there."
Uhhhh, we *were* attacked, and they *were* there. They were there with us for 20 years in Afghanistan.
It's a shame America is literally a bubble.
First; look up; literally; next only the Commie-red cap wearers are in a bubble!
trump had certain things that putin wanted him to accomplish and breaking up nato was one of them and making all of our allies either mad at us or suspicious of us was another until the western alliance would be weakened enough to make putin stronger
Joe got Millions from Putin Uk China Iran 20% Cashback FJB
Having personally been a US Army National Guard Military Police responder to the World Trade Center attacks in the aftermath of the September 11th 2001, I clearly recall how NATO's Article 5 was activated and NATO Allies the UK, Italy Netherlands etc. Airforces all sent their Aircraft and Pilots to the USA for assisting in protecting America's skys.
This is a very insightful analysis by an experienced and knowledgeable long served senior US Diplomat. Myself having been a Diplomat for both the USA and Estonia, when this experienced knowledgeable former senior American Diplomat Mr. John Bolton speaks, I tend to listen, as he is credible!
Biden, to Bolton: " Don't you dare spit that out!"
