Only one member has ever invoked the mutual defence clause in the NATO treaty that that was the USA after 9-11
The result was NATO members stepped up to the plate. RAF Tornados were taking out runways right at the start of the action VC10 tankers were refueling US Navy and other coalition aircraft, RN ships and Lynx helicopters and Royal Marines taking out assorted attack craft in the Persian Gulf.

Yes, also before Afganistan, we participated in the fight against Iraq from day 1, as a number of other European countries also did .. it was outside of Nato's auspices. . So time and time again Europe has stood there when it was and still do.

You should be embarrassed to repeat lies...Trump promised to make America energy independent and he did, he promised open up coal mines in Pennsylvania but instead "He stabilized the mining industry after years of losses under Obama, then pandemic began......." ( "The Philadelphia Inquirer"). He promised to move US Embassy to Jerusalem and he did ( Obama and the rest of them promised that too but didn't have a stomach to comply with campaign promises).
He promised to stop illegal immigration and he did, vetting process was moved to Mexico which provided 28K soldiers to oversee the new policy and US didn't pay a penny. He promised to make economy prosperous and he did, 70% of Americans called it "excellent or good". ( if you wish to challenge me on this I refer you to ABC Marsha Radatz interview with Democratic billionaire Tom Stayer who decided to run for President in 2020 on economy ). He dismantled ISIS ( entire political and military teams advised Obama not to withdraw the troops from Iraq but he did, created vacuum was immediately filled up with people called themselves Caliphate ) as he said he would.
He rebuilt military giving generals all they asked for and have created a Space force ( China and Russia full steam ahead with Space force and Biden canceled that). Creating operation "Warp Speed", showing tremendous leadership at the toughest times for the nation the vaccine was developed and delivered to America for less than a year when nobody believed possible laughing at it calling it "Trump's vaccine". He asked NATO members to do 2% of the GDP as they supposed to and they did except Germany and we all see today how right he was. He signed into the law " The First Step Act" allowing convicts ( predominantly Afro Americans who served longer than half of their sentences for nonviolent crimes ) out of prison as a 2nd chance ( and Van Jones from CNN standing behind the President was applauding him...).
The most impressive achievement of a Biblical proportion is an "Abraham accord" creating a peace in the Middle East region and nominated for Nobel Peace Prize ( I think two times, all the Presidents of the United States starting with JFK tried to bring peace to the Middle East, everyone of them........failed ). If Obama who I voted twice for ( has sent " Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace " led by the WH appointee George Mitchell who came back empty handed ) did third of it not to mention half of it Democrats, Medea and you too would call him Greatest President ever but he didn't. President Trump did. Did I mention record unemployment for all of the minorities in this country?
He stopped N Korea testing ICBM flying over Japan, capable of reaching United States and made them to meet with S Korea for the first time in history of both Koreas (absolutely remarkable achievement in foreign policies).
He made the World a peaceful place for the entire four years making America great, working for the People and not for the special interests groups, marking his years in the White House as an unequivocal success he did every one and each campaign promise in spite of being distracted, harassed, viciously attacked and openly sabotaged by all of the Media, Big Tech, hostile Congress and everybody else who wasn't lazy on the daily bases with one purpose only to bring him down. The most honest and effective President by far.

So far, we - NATO- needed US approval of using nuclear weapons, the USA were our custodians. When the US is pulling out of NATO, we have to rely on "ourselves" and any conflict with Russia will have s strong "nuclear" smell of threat. I realize that very well. Also Putin will KNOW that NATO without the USA will have a firm Nuclear capacity, next to conventional - which I prefer of course. I am a retired Nato Staff Officer and have been posted on several jobs around Europe and the Middle East, including being involved in those strategies. I'm completely fed up with the hollow threat of Trump. Let the USA elect their "JESUS" for president and isolate themselves on their continent. Europe AND NATO-Europe can mow their own lawn, especially since the recent contribution in joining Finland and Sweden. Time will tell, we can do it in our own… It will be expensive n take sometime, but we can! And in the end it will not harm only Russia. • @BluemoonSpaceRock
      @BluemoonSpaceRock 9 месяцев назад

The only reason no European Countries have ever had to invoke Article 5 is because of the US Troops in Europe protecting them and serving as their deterrent for the past 80 years. So stop acting like USA is the one who benefits from NATO protection as if NATO bullying defenseless third world primitives in Afghanistan after 9/11 was some huge heroic sacrifice. Europeans are the ones who massively benefit from NATO. USA does not need NATO, USA can protect its self from any foreign army that dares try to invade the USA.
No foreign army is gonna invade the USA, the USA is completely capable of defending themselves from a foreign occupying army without NATO, it is Europe that needs USA’s deterrent and protection via NATO, not the other way around.
Afghansitan was a war of choice and should have never happened anyway, it lasted 20 years and all it did was waste trillions of dollars. Afghanistan was not a war against a army powerful enough to invade and occupy another country which is the type of war that Europeans expect America to fight for them, not some ragtag impoverished sandal wearers shooting rusty AK-47s and IED’s.
Afghanistan is not the same kind of war that Europeans expect America to fight for them when they are invaded by a great power like Russia. The type of war that Europe would drag us into would result in hundreds of thousands of killed American Troops and possible nuclear weapon exchanges.
This is not comparable to Afghansitan what so ever. Afghansitan was basically a live fire exercise for NATO. It’s an impoverished third world country of illiterate primitives who had no air defense systems or modern weapons.
Trump is saying he doubts NATO would help in a real war against a great power that would actually require real sacrifice. Afghanistan was like bullying a defenseless third grader who can’t fight back. It’s not like it was some heroic sacrifice.
And considering that so many European countries STILL don’t spend 2% on defense even though the bar was set in 2006 shows that Trump is likely right. Europeans weren’t even willing to sacrifice getting off cheap russian oil after 2014 when Russia invaded Crimea. They had 8 years to get off Russian Oil and instead of doing that they furthered their dependence even more by building NS2
If Europeans weren’t even willing to give up cheap russian oil after they invaded Crimea what makes you think they would be willing to sacrifice defending the USA from a Chinese or Russian invasion?

Hillary Clinton is Ms. Clinton, and you don't have to worry about whether you should address her as Senator or Madam Secretary. The current senators from NY are Schumer and Gillibrand and the current Secretary of State is Blinken. "Oh, we're just being courteous." How are "Mr." and "Ms." not courtesy titles? Am I being addressed discourteously every time someone puts "Mr." in front of my name?

    • @marcusonesimus3400
      @marcusonesimus3400 9 месяцев назад

Technically you are correct. Once a person has left a position, the title attached to that position no longer applies. But I would'nt put such a paranoid construction on the habit of retaining honorific titles past their due date. It is probably intended as a mark of respect.
It's a different case when election deniers address Mr. Trump as 'president' based on the false claim that he won the 2020 election.
Of course in Mr. Trump's mind, any process in which he does not gain the upper hand must be corrupt, illegitimate, etc.
the man is an egomaniac, to be sure.
That alone is sufficient reason why he should not be entrusted with foreign policy.

They bring with them all the American brands and we become consumers of American products. We Europeans, in addition to helping Americans in many conflicts, also help the American economy and the USA's affirmation as the leading nation on the planet. Of course we gained some things from the American presence in Europe, it helped stabilize relations between European states and avoided wars and the construction of the EU. Europe has provided twice as much aid to Ukraine compared to the USA. The USA is spending 90% of it's military aid in the USA and only gives 10% to Ukraine, although that's mostly for decades old military scrap. As for NATO, USA only provided 16% of funding in 2023 - about the same as Germany.

I would suggest that this entailed 'mission creep' for NATO, nevertheless it demonstrated the loyalty of NATO's weaker members toward their putative (or self-proclaimed) leader.
But Trump seems incapable of gratitude toward anyone.
He is certainly not grateful for services rendered by non-American NATO forces in Afghanistan.
After all, it was Trump who decided to capitulate to the Taliban, exposing to grave danger or death thousands of Afghan assistants to NATO forces
He is eager to surrender much of Ukraine too Putin on behalf of the ukrainians. I have no doubt that he would deliver Taiwan or South Korea to the devil if he could.
He is the most pro-Communist Republican president in US history, not
that Communist ideology exists anymore in a meaningful sense, but the decayed remnants of former Communist systems do still compel loyalty in some places.
