Grave Digger fans are going to REAAAALLLY like this - I think the use of aspects from other titles seems like a homage rather than an outright copy but it does get very close! Let me know what you think! Mark
@gazaalley3862 it's basically Stardew Valley, but playing the role of a grave yard keeper. It's your typical farm sim with similar concepts where you interact and develope relationships with the towns people but there's also a witch trial aspect where a group within the church is going after people they believe are witches and burning them at the stake. Your job is to rebuild the church collect bodies, prepare them for burial, and get points based on the quality of preparation. There is farming in the game, plenty to explore and do, a great soundtrack, a beautiful art style, and a fun story behind it all as well. Plus, there's a cpl DLCs out now as well. I'd say go for it if you enjoyed Stardew Valley. I really enjoyed my time playing it. (I bought the DLC but haven't taken the time to go back and play them simply because it seems I'm always playing catch up on my back log.)
@@AlohaGamester you are awesome man tha ks so much for your time and detailed review!! I've been looking out for Bloomtown since day 1 so based on what you said I'll love to try this out thanks again!!!
The way you described it (and the overall vibes of the game), I'd sooner compare this to Gravity Falls rather than Stranger Things. But then again, I understand that more people watched that Netflix show than the Disney cartoon.
Personally, the sprinkling of awkward translations in a JRPG hits the nostalgia button just right for the mid-90's JRPGs we all grew up with on SNES. I love it.
It really is just a certain level of charming that you can only really appreciate if you have that nostalgia, right? It’s like watching a toddler fumble their words because they can’t fully talk yet, it’s strangely endearing.
I used to work in a L2 Games Design class; I can confirm pixel art is hard as balls, and designers will take what they like and think will fit together. At the end of the day, we will rarely ever see something that is entirely new without a technological wave happening first. So many games have catch mechanisms, or dice rolls (although graphic RNG is a Disco Elysium thing) etc etc. We will have to focus more on execution than concept at some point.
I hadn't heard of this game and I'm so glad you guys highlighted it! Once they fix up those percentages & chances (I'm not restarting the game every few minutes- please respect my time, game developers!), this is a definite buy for me!
This puts me in mind of what Haunted Chocolatier might be like. Good to tide one over until the 1.6 Stardew Valley update dropping 4th November perhaps...
I didnt know about this game until the previous switchedup video mentioning it. Ive gone from not knowing it exists to it being at the top of my wish list for the year, all within a single day!
@@TriforceLiz i was hyped as all hell for eastward and enjoyed my time with it, but i left it feeling a little bit disappointed. it felt to me like story beats happened too fast and didn't have a whole lot of cohesion. loved almost everything else about it though - the visuals, sound, gameplay, etc. excellent stuff. do you mind me asking you what makes the game rank so high for you? genuinely curious in a not-dickhead way, i promise.
Love what you guys do, so many games I would've missed out on if not for your videos, this looks right up my street so thank you for bringing it to my attention
I was so excited when I first saw the trailer but felt disheartened when it was only for the PS4, so when your review of this came up on my homepage, I had to no idea that this was releasing on the Switch tomorrow, I will be buying this as soon as it releases, thank you
You keep bringing up what elements you think this game took from others, with an obviously dubious tone, but without bothering to mention or without realizing that those elements you mention aren't original or exclusive to those other games, either. Turn-based jrpgs and fantasy stories have been done a million times, there's only so much true originality possible.
Thanks for the review, i would have overlooked it otherwise. Definitely adding it to my wishlist and will surely buy it on sale as one of the games for my daughter 😊
Was literally waiting for this review 😊 i have it wishlisted to get. Saw it and was like oooh whats this. I plan on getting it. Your review makes me think though should I wait or get it when it releases 🤔
Art style is absolutely gorgeous!! I can’t believe one game has so many elements er *borrowed* from my favorite games! I’m actually making my way through Persona 3 Portable on Switch now, so that’s all of my dedicated leisure time 😅 but THIS is going on my wishlist!
Wow. I love the visuals. So colorful and so much little details. Story sounds interesting too. Another must buy for me.

When I saw the trailer on Glen's Saturday's video I thought that it was made for Mark to review it. I love JRPGs in general, but not too keen on monster collection or life simulation. One to consider anyway.
To be fair its harder these days to come up with a unique story that actually hits. It's easier to take what storylines you know are already a success, and try to make them your own. Seems like these guys made a lot of effort to hit familiar stuff but give it their own spin. Edit: Sorry I meant game mechanics as well.
Wow not gonna lie, this looks incredible. I hate how much it’s taking from other games but when the quality of the visuals gameplay and story look this good it just doesn’t matter. I really hope this gets a physical release. Too bad this came out right before a Zelda game.
I'm very relieved to see the performance is solid on this, after seeing Lazy Bear was involved I was a little worried since Graveyard Keeper is a buggy mess. This game looks gorgeous and a lot of fun!
The battle system is HEAVILY influenced by persona and im loving it. The fact that Emily smacks the demons in the face to initiate preemptive combat is hilarious. Game is a blast so far.
As much as I love the look of this, it’ll have to go on the wishlist rather than the backlog for now. I need to get through some games before I buy more
The game looks great, and it is nice to hear they have improved on performance over previous titles. I love Graveyard Keeper, but that game would struggle and crash. Fingers crossed for a physical.🤞
I saw this game mentioned in a list of yours recently and didn't think much of it, but after seeing this review it looks like a title I'd actually give some time to. Cheers!
If this gets a physical release I'm absolutely getting it. If it turns out to be digital only, I'll buy it eventually when it's on sale for a good price.
Cool! I’ve been interested in this one & a Persona-like game under 80 hours or so for just the main story sounds great. I’ve got it on the wish list for after Zelda & some other.
I like these reviews. I guess the really cool part is , since I don't play games too much all this stuff feels brand new. my only reference for this is Earthbound , which is not saying much. lol
Amazing review! Gonna pick it up thursday. The release date, atleast is europe is almost off. On the e shop we can buy it like at 7pm or something. Might aswell put the release date next day.
When this first popped up on my radar it looked interesting but I wasn't entirely hooked. The more content I'm seeing on this game though the more I really, really, really really want it
Jesus… how will we keep up with all these… 😂 I have like 1 hour to game everyday it’s impossible to actually play all those. Loved the review man. Keep up the good work
This game looks exceptional, and somehow its the first time I am even hearing about it! Also, as much as I love the 80's setting, really glad they went with the 60's era instead with this one as the 80's era has been a bit overused in recent years.
This might be THE game for the patientgamers community. Getting to play all the legendary games you never played, without actually playing them lol. Kidding of course but this one looks interesting, thanks for the review !
