I ordered a hybrid 50s Telecaster in Arctic White from Japan. It is simply the best Fender I have ever owned, and 1 of the best guitars I own next to my Gibson and Kiesel. They are simply the best.

Hi Jonathan, I know exactly what you mean about the MIJ Fender Vintage Strats. The workmanship is excellent! I bought mine new in '87. It's black into a tobacco burst. Maple C neck (or U as I don't know the difference, single layer white pickguard, ), tremolo bridge.
The good: I remember reading somewhere that the MIJ version's lacquer is closer to the original 54' than the USA Vintage 54 version. This is one of those vintage models that they really sweat the details. The only modification I made was a 5 way switch as the 3 way was a little too original for my needs.
It has an Aldor body as best as I can tell. It's fairly light weight, but not bass wood light. It's wonderfully balanced, and removing the pickguard, it's very revealing how tight the tolerances and fit are. It allways stays in tune (ridiculously), and not one neck adjustment needed.
This has been my 3rd Fender Strat, as the first two were fairly poor builds. That was fairly common for mid to late 70's regular Fender Strats. Shoddy workmanship and they were also boat anchors! So I finally got what I wanted in a Strat anyway.
The bad: unfortunately, my MIJ Strat has always been a bit noisy. The 2 and 4 switch positions are more quiet, but 1, 3, and 5 are almost unusable. I'm researching some alternatives, and better shielding. I really want to keep the original pups. If I get it really quiet. I can reliably use the guitar in the Studio. Currently I can't.
Yours: Looks gorgeous! Sounds completely quiet, and it has that precious old Strat sound. I know what you mean about thinking a few days on it. When I bought mine, they brought up two others thinking I'd want a fresh one in wraps. Tried them. Then said "No, the one one the wall is the real player". When they're good, they're good!
    Good luck with yours!

Beautiful guitar! Many years ago I had a teenage friend in a band whose parents bought him a white Strat similar to yours, and I envied my friend for not only having that Strat, but also being able to play it pretty well, at least from a teenager’s point of view. Many years later I still remember that Strat, and the lead for the song that he really played well, “Day Tripper” by the Beatles.

Beautiful Guitar Jon, and sounds Fantastic! I’ve discovered from talking to Fender that 95% of their Reissue Guitars come from their Japan Custom Craft Shop. I have a ‘70s Reissue Telecaster that was made there I got in 2007. Same situation with the Neck Adjustment Screw, you have to remove the Neck to adjust it, but on mine I found the position is the Screw works well by just removing the Pickguard and shortening an Allen Wrench did a fine job without removing the Neck. Great Vid! Please keep up the Good Work my Brother!! Have a great day!

Really nice quitar. I realise they have copied the traditional spec down to the last details but that truss rod adjustment makes no sense to me. I doubt it will need much attention although it gets quite humid in your neck of the woods (pun intended). Glad to see you got rid of those girlie 9 strings.

I am looking to buy a MIJ Traditional 58 Stratocaster from Sound Alchemy. However I won’t be able to try the guitar because of the circuit breaker situation in Singapore. My only concern is the U shaped neck since I have small to average hands. Is there a big difference between the Fender modern C shaped neck and the U shaped neck on these guitars?

I love instruments that are made in Japan. This guitar was one of the guitars I was thinking of buying, since it is available in lefty. When I saw your video though, I didn't like the truss rod adjustment system, which is weird to unscrew the neck it self from the body, in order to adjust it, so it's off my buying list. Great video Jonathan! I always watch your videos cause you are doing great work. Awesome player as well!! Keep it up!!

    • @JonIsJustTooLoud
      @JonIsJustTooLoud  5 лет назад +1

Hi...I understand about the truss rod. Because it's a traditional 50s model, they try to keep it like how it was back then. The truth is.. Once you made your adjustment ( if you even need to) you don't really have have to do it again. The tone of this guitar very clearly outweigh and inconvenience of the truss rod adjustment needs. It is one of my favorite favorites...✌️🤓

I thought of getting a used MIJ 57 stratin sunburst and I love the V shaped neck. Is yours with a thick neck? White is gorgeous! I saw one previously in Sherwood green with matching headstock. Jonathan Koh I even once had a USA strat. One of the californian series from early 90s. I bought it for 300 UK pounds that was a bargain for a US strat brand new. I got rid of it because I didn't like the edge of the fretboard being sharp. If I know then what I know now I could've made that into a great playing guitar. To get the guitar I traded in a Japanese Fernandes strat for 100 UK pounds. That was before the craze on Japanese instrument started. The Fernandes was a better playing guitar. US guitar felt like it had come fresh from the machine and put in some box and sent. But yeah I wanted a US Strat. So yes I let a few fish through the net. But I have some great guitar around me now and love em to death ☺

@@JonIsJustTooLoud Sounds great. A lot of the super Strat guitars made by Charvel and Jackson from the 80s were also basswood. It's becoming a choice wood for quality guitars recently, it's soft enough to not wear out router bits too quickly but strong enough to hold screws well. Maybe a little on the heavier side as compared to alder, but mostly on par with ash.

Can you compare with american original 50 white blonde? How the difference?

Nice guitar, you played it, you loved it, it occupied your mind for days, so you were right to buy it. Body wood , we don't care if the guitar sings well. I have a Fender Japan Strat Classic 54, maple fretboard, swamp ash body 2 tones sunburst, so beautiful, perfectly crafted. Neck profile is soft V. I replaced the stock ceramic pick ups with Fender CS54 alnico for a more vintage glassy tone. Also replaced the enclosed switch with that open classical Fender 5ways switch for smoother operation. And offered that beauty a hard case. Only thing I don't like so much is the thick PolyUrethane finish. Other than that it easily compares to an American Vintage 54 reissue.

Well..I can tell you straight off that this guitar has better pickups!! Playing wise..they are about the same except the neck of this Japan Fender seems to be a tad narrower.✌

I have Squier cv 50s stratocaster with this anodised plate kinda cool. The pickups are tonerider surfari alnico 4 magnets they are relatively inexpensive but beautiful sounding. They would suit the HB very well. Again while writing this i hear the Fender and it sounds so good ☺
