More money for less battery is a genius marketing strategy
Unless you're on a Fold in which you're gaining about 3 hours of battery despite going from a $2K phone to an $1100.
And less titanium or whatever the frame is made from
Now days a bad battery is the only reason to buy a new phone.
This is basically 1/3rd a Mate XT.
they should start measuring the phones in the camera bump area, companies would start focusing on more than just cramming in components and making them impossible to repair...
I don't want a thinner phone. I want a *smaller* phone.
So buy iphone mini duhhh
@OleksiiK21 oh wait, they don’t make those anymore
God please i swear, like whats the point of a 40 inch phone but thin without making it smaller? With how many companies make smartphones you'd think that at least a few would offer 5.9 inch devices (below premium priced too, tired of only expensive flagships getting a sub 6.7 inch screen for no reason) but nope. But also yeah why make it thinner without making it smaller? Ridiculous
i want pixel 6a like phones 🫡
Agree. I would love to have a Samsung flangship with the size of the Iphone mini
bro you just saved my life at 1:37 I hated that feature so bad.
no way
What's good Mr rig
evening 47
You are very welcome 🫡
Hi Mr Rig
clearly bias towards the iPhone. "Nobody asked for this" Was not in the Air review. every tech youtuber is the same
I can't believe I had to come to a RUclips video about a different phone than mine to get a solution for this stupid panel swipes annoyance. THANK YOU
Or.. you can mess around with the settings. I'm not defending Samsung here but I figured it out on the first day though.
You didn't HAVE to do that, you could've just learned how to change basic settings on your phone. I mean the edit button is right there. Or you could've googled it.
@AgentPerryGamingfacts, it so funny that people choose samsung for what I believe is all the customizations, but then never dig into any of the menus or settings
@SaifKhanisaiff It’s a minor annoyance, usually I can’t be bothered to Google something like that, so if I see a solution while browsing randomly, I’d be happy to.
P.S. Google is useless nowadays and searching something you don’t actually know the name of the issue of doesn’t yield results anymore.
How silly you are not trying to know your phone better
Marques having to explain why the old Samsung phones are called “edge” makes me feel old lol 6:25
It's not really that old
@tcc1234 it's almost 10 years at this point, sir
Haha same. I remember when they came out and I wanted one so bad but was on College and had to put money elsewhere. Today I am on the 15 Pro but if I would go back to Android, it would be a Samsung device for sure.
Aaahh the good days that note edge changed the game. ,but I loved the s6 edge with the peoples edge fluid colored pull out tab for your favorite contacts. Samsung was really cooking back then when the s6 launched with wireless charging , Samsung pay , premium design , curved display
@Nam3Iessfor me the S8 was the sexiest phone they ever made
5:49 Impressive, very nice... Lets see JerryRigEverything's bend test
*Look at that subtle bent frame. The tasteful shattered screen. Oh my god, it even has a now exposed charging coil*
"Is something wrong, Zach? You're sweating."
…🤣😂😀
I even went looking for it, fr. 😂😂
@AdamIsUrqed🤣🤣🤣
This should have more likes than OP's 😂@AdamIsUrqed
🤣Watching this after the iPhone Air review, and guess whats in the background of the thumbnail
Now, hear me out... A thicker, *smaller* phone.
No, very little audience 😢
This would be goated
u should be the president
@vovafint6507 i assure u its more than who wants thinner phone
Unihertz Jelly Max
0:27 that's marques's hand how much lighting is used
Bro pulled the Michael Jackson
More lighting wont make you look lighter. Thats exposure or white balance
I thought it was M.Jackson.
@jerm_ That's the joke.
@jerm_ wow you seem really fun to be around...
That intro was clean and smooth, awesome camera work
Okie the intro is better than most advertisement. Amazing!
0:05 Shout out to the editor 🙌
fucking legend!
And the robot.
Videographer and the audio design cuz it all ruled
Most probably its a IA
That was insane
What a creative intro that was!
the idea is from an apple iPad ad
Yeah I’m fine with a pencil width phone.
9:05 I think Samsung & Apple are in this together to supply these type of products to enhance the value of their current lineups as well as present this as a good to feel for everyone.....
No one cares..
Xiaomi and Vivo dominates the market..
It's Just stpd.
Here after iphone 17 air. Wanna know comparison
Apple fanboy markhez
Mee too. Thinking of getting the edge 25
Sammy has two speakers two camera . (and vapour chamber ), titanium
17 air just one speaker and one camera. ( no vapour chamber) aluminium
I miss thinner phones. I had the Motorola Max and later the Edge. Both of those were at roughly 7.99 mm.
The Air crushed it at 5.6mm. But their mono speaker is such a downer for me.
Same reason I'm here😂
Thank you for the pro tip to combine the notification panel and the settings. 😊
How silly you are not trying to know your phone better
I changed that back 5 minutes after the update rolled out. I _LOVE_ getting my user experiences and settings getting uglified and "enshittified", as the formal term is, without any of my input or consent!!!
6:30 they still name S7 Edge after the S6 Edge
Who else is here watching after the 17 Iphone Air review?
Bro, I hated having to swipe at the right corner to get to the quick settings but god bless this man for showing me how to change it
That was a way better intro than what samsung did🔥🔥😂
1:41 wow the notification panel tip was really helpful. It was really annoying after the update
Is this the downside of so much customization? No one bothers to check the menus and settings?
Yes old notification panel much better
Who at samsung tought that change was a good idea, if you want to acess settings with one swipe you can just swipe down with two fingers, this has been on all androids for so long
@FumblingWizard It's irrelevant, I knew that when I got One UI 7 but I still hated it 😂
Swipe down from the top right of the phone.
Today's intro was as good as or even better than that video when he taired tired through that blue background oooo soo slick and smooth
That Intro was sick🔥
8:30 pun intended
It really exploded in their faces 😂
Thanks for saying this for me❤
2:07 I think he knows about CRICKET
2:18 did you get it from Matpat in Mrbeast challenge
I just want the camera bumps gone or recessed. 😢
2:10 did not know you were into cricket! I am curious to know how you got hold of W.G. Grace's bat, that's impressive!
Yes, first I thought it was some sort of old style baseball bat, till I saw W G Grace.
I loved the S6 Edge cameo on the wooden hand, right before it was mentioned on the video…. MKBHD being the best at what he does best.
Intro replayed a few dozens. Very informative and entertaining as always... Always improving. Loved it! 🎉
revisited this after watching the Air review just to compare the taglines "who asked?" & "nobody asked" and see which side the reviews leaned towards...
These reviewers are hypocrites.
All favor Apple yet the air is 10x worse than the Edge.
There was an iPhone on the thumbnail? Wuuut? 😅
This would be great for my mom. She just needs something with a big screen to make text bigger, without making it crazy heavy and has tons of feature that she doesn't need.
It’s nice to be able to actually pick the phone up off the table or floor once in a while
Since when did you add iPhone Air in the thumbnail's background
Thumbnails can be changed.
I didn't hear a nobody asked for this in the Air review 😂😂😂 this guy...
Watch people go crazy when Apple makes a foldable phone.
and yet he hated on the Air lol, what is your point
The editors are crazy i hope you paying them well Marquez, the lightning, the editing, the little details everything is genuinely top notch.
He probably does most himself
@Ghajahhahe has a whole team responsible for this
im pretty sure mark edits his own videos
iam in love with this intro 0:30
Ripped from apple
We need the behind the scenes of those camera angles and movement from the first camera shot
I don't want a thinner phone. I want a smaller phone. Who also joined Xaitorum today?
Wait it's actually out? 😍 I thought they need like 5 more years loool
Musk and Trump need each other and they need this project to work too
Elon failed horribly with X
How long can we get that
Finally they got it out, I thought it takes longer
He sneaked iPhone Air in there 🙂↕️
came to this after iphone air review. do youtubers feel biased towards apple?
100%
This channel has always been
Flossy Carter likely the only guy that at least tries to be objective. Rest are shameless shills. I wouldn't even call it "bias", it's not even funny. I prefer Apple smartphone but S25 Edge is objectively better yet all reviewers whined about it while trying to sugarcoat the Air so desparately.
I thought the bending in pocket issue was from the iPhone 6 not samsung?!
1:30 I didn't know that! THANK YOU! omg whoever changed notifications to two seperate tabs should reconsider their position.
no
You don't have to do that. The right side of you just swipe down on that side instead of the left it takes you straight to quick settings.
@UntriedGeniusmy muscle memory doesn't allow it
@osdenza 😂😂😂 I retrained mine. It took a few days but now I do it reliably enough. Tho sometimes I still make the mistake
You can alsow change it to old settings mate
_ iPhone: airing_ 😊
*Samsung: edging* 💀
lmao 😂😂😂😂😭
That intro is 🔥
I would rather have a thin phone, I can charge in my car or on my desk if needed.
Love how you balanced the hype and real-world practicality here, Marques! This phone really pushes boundaries, but it's cool to see you highlight the trade-offs too.
8:55 iPhone 17 air you mistakenly named it iPhone 16 air
The last phone Samsung used the name "Edge" on was actually the Galaxy S7 Edge, not S6. And I'm saying this because I've had that phone for about 6 years with no issues at all.
That was the last time I ever chased the flagship phone and really liked the results... that S7 edge was great...
S7 Edge is what made the Edge iconic - was hoping to see a new iteration of the curved display.
It's interesting how people forget a decade back we had gone through a similar transition of bulky to slim and powerful devices. And how people criticise the fist product and forget beginning of a new. You can also see the same effect in folding phones too.
Dude the intro could literally be a Samsung commercial it looks so good
Whoever did the editing in the intro needs a raise!
I don’t like how RUclipsrs are so inclined towards Apple that whenever some other phone company comes up with a unique thing they always try to degrade it and if Apple does the same, they praise it and kind of market it. I thought a few of them were different, but they’re all the same.
After coming from the iPhone Air review to this, I don't really agree, and I find Marques was pretty fair in both.
His main complaint for both phones was the battery, and he voiced it equally in both reviews, even critiquing the Air's camera which he didn't do for the Edge. And his praise for their thinness was also nearly the same.
I guess he did do a more cinematic intro for the Air, but this intro is also very memorable.
@zestycrumbs see the titles of both the videos for example. Starts this video by saying "Nobody asked for this" on the contrary mentions the Air's features and how Apple has rearranged the internals to achieve this form factor. There is a clear bias Marques.
yeah i notice the same thing... Thin Samsung? why? thin iPhone? well some people will like it... lmao. tho im assuming his mostly impressed by the durability of the iPhone
Who asked for this when samsung does it. When Apple does it, pretty good with some concerns. You have to at least admit this guy is biased.
@keithmdesign yeah, also stating that there are "trade offs". and always "builds" his text for iphones like: small issue vs kinda of big plus ("pick up tons of fingerprints but remarkably durable). with this way if you just structure your sentences good enough, every trade-off is good this way.
The iPhone air in the back scared me 😅
3:05 bro is using my dream camera
I don't get why these companies can't just make the back flush with the camera and at least that extra tiny tiny space, you could put in a slight be more battery, and it'll be flat
While this is to thin and I never wanted it, I also don’t care one bit about flush cameras and wouldn’t want them any thicker than the ultra models already are. Battery life is finally good on most phones and without making them to thick and heavy.
Just buy a REDMAGIC bro.
This, or at the very worst do it along the while back like Google does.
I will say the pixel bump is nice to put your finger under if you don't have a case.
And all their messing around with bumps and such are all negated when you put a case on it anyways so just give us battery
0:27 The lighting is insane 😂😂, Bro pulled a MJ.
cool wallpaper.. where can i find it ?
Every phone seems to have a massive screen + massive camera bump, which kinda spoils the effect of super-thin for me.
Yeah but you don't hold a phone by its camera bump, so the camera bump doesn't really count against the phone's thinness when you're using it.
A big point against camera bumps is fitting them into a normal sized pocked@makingretro
Also if you put a case on the phone, then the camera bump is cancelled out, and you still end up with a thinner and lighter phone/case overall.
REDMAGIC 10 Pro.
@tragiclostgaming I have normal sized pockets and I’ve never had any issue fitting modern phones with big screens and camera bumps in them. I mostly wear jeans and they fit my phone and have space leftover.
2:09
A cricket bat in a MKBHD video?
Totally unexpected.
ikr?
They did this so the next generation they can say 20% better battery than last years and so on..
Anyone who wants a phone like this will buy it because of its thinness. Apple and Samsung don't try at all because they know what kind of buyer they are targeting.
Facts
Galaxy tab pro/iPad air commercial reference right there in the intro
2:03 the OIS is supposedly a bit worse than the s25 Ultra 😅
Its not the Exact same sensor as some comprimises were made to allow the camera to fit properly
Yeah it’s actually not the exact same sensor and Samsung talks about it thoroughly in their introduction video. They explain how they redesigned the camera to make it as thin as possible.
what an intro! As a fellow editor props to you man.
Less of a trade off than the iphone air
Where does that cricket came from marques
At 8:58 there is an error in the information about the battery capacities of the latest iPhone models. The alleged “Air” should be a 17 not a 16 model….
It’s so weird to me because the majority of comments here are saying they don’t want a thinner phone. I’ve never heard anyone say they want a thinner phone. What is these manufacturers obsession with having the thinnest phone on the market?
I think these phones will still sell quite well if the battery lasts for a day. There is no need to have a big battery if your going to plug it in at night with 30% left. People will like how futuristic it looks and how it feels in your hand. I think the comments on tech videos dont really represent the average consumer
Engineers and designers who wanna push the envelope but themselves being phone engineers and designers, sitting in their offices with chargers everywhere, not grappling reality.
Also marketers knowing they can come up with whatever standard they want to flog “X hours battery life” and let the customer assume what that means.
What the world really needs is smallish phones. iPhone mini or slightly larger. The mini’s camera’s are just barely thicker than the rest of the phone, they could have just filled those precious mm with battery and it would protect the lenses from drops and it would never wobble. Which is probably the last reason; they can keep shaving it down for marketing, heaping the problem on to the customer knowing they’ll probably put a case on it.
Thin phones market really well to average people, but the real reason they likely invest in it is shipping costs. Thin phones have less materials and weigh less which means less shipping costs.
Sometimes people on the internet just anti-everything
you should be asking why we went from thin and light phones to lugging around bricks in our pockets.
at 8:00, or, you could make an iPhone mini with a great battery life again 😢
It's definitely going to come back, but I'm keen to know which manufacturer will release this
@DanyaalButtMaybe Sony Xperia Compact makes a comeback?
That is literally the 2nd option he presented. An iPhone mini is a smaller form factor. That's what he said
The mini iPhones were a commercial failure, they didn’t sell well so we probably won’t see them again
Same here ..when used in Samsung store..but i might die with battery anxiety
I kid you not after seeing the IPhone 17 Air the Samsung edge looks huge
I hate these cameras that aren't flush with the body, I'd much rather have a little more thickness and the camera be flush or a tiny bump than these big lenses hanging off the phone.
Gotta love how those cameras and the screen are covered with one of the most fragile materials ever made. And when the phone falls, you know the lenses are gonna take the hit, considering how much hardware is in there.
@Renigenthis happened with my last iphone. sad thing, it's been nearly 10 years since apple released a phone without a camera bump
You mean like the pixel 9a.
I don’t really get the if deal about out. Camera bumps haven’t really ever bugged me. Flush would be preferred. But I’m not gonna be willing to make my phone even thicker for that. I’d rather worse cameras at that point. I barely use them anyway. lol
@-ThatGuy- I guess it's a preference. And the camera bumps themselves look stupid. Like, 10 years ago we were able to make thin phones with the cameras not poking out of the back, and now we can't? That's just lazy.
Or maybe that's the companies way of conditioning us. Like, they probably think "They don't complain about these huge bumps on the back of the phone. I wonder what else can we get away with now?"
The thing with silicon-carbon battery technology is that silicon as an anode in the battery suffers from expansion/shrinkage issues when it undergoes cycling i.e., charging and discharging, leading to ~300% volume changes of the silicon anode which in turn causes fractures of the electrode. There are numerous ways adopted to solve this issue, yet none of them could really provide a substantial and sustainable solution to this problem. That’s why we have to look at the silicon nanostack tech from Oneplus with scrutiny and see if the battery can last long (how many years it can survive under normal use condition). And I believe that is also why no company has followed suit in the silicon battery tech yet..
They are smart enough to figure out solutions to this problems. It's just that Samsung wants to make the batteries themselves and they don't know how. Note 7 is probably the reasoning for this.
@DavidJonSpemActually it has been more than 10 years, in fact close to 20 years since research started on silicon-based battery due to its theoretical capacity 10 fold of commonly used carbon material, yet still no promising results come out of it to minimise the negative impact associated with Si electrode. We shall see if they can really solve it.
@MahHinMan Strange how almost all Chinese phones have converted over to them for the past 1.5 years
@DavidJonSpemchines phones were made in mind to be usiually used for like a 6ear and pass it down to family members that yhe culture surounfding it in europe it moree like just buy flagshi0s every 3 yeats
Irrelevant information with the context of China's battery development,
For example
lifepo4 batteries energy density was horrendous and not commercially viable with horrible low temperature performance
Now they are practical for energy density and can go sub 10°c
I know they've figured out the expansion issues or at least mitigate it for the typical life cycle of smartphones
Does anybody know where can I find the wallpaper thats shown in the video? Cant find it on panels. Thanks!
samsung thin is problem. but iphone thin is innovation.. bro is the problem
He literally complains about the air what are you on about
@TheSaberFace Which, he did not. Lol.
@kfx3907 yes, he did? did you even watch marques' iphone air 'review'? slammed it up and down.
@h445 He don't like the thin phone, but he liked the design so he was biased for sure. He even mentioned some will like this😂 But nothing but straight to the Samsung by saying "No one will like this"
6:05 Did you mean: only Jerryrigeverything will tell?
Maybe this phone was only for me. I got mine two days ago and love it. I hate having a bulky phone but I can't not have the security of a case. This nails it. The cons honestly aren't much of an issue for me. Its got a decent enough battery to get me through the whole day and I have a wireless charger at work and in my car. Having a 100× zoom was only really used as a party trick for me. Rarely did I ever actually use it. I loved the s pen but again rarely used it. This phone is kind of amazing for being this this. When i had an iPod touch I always thought why cant they just make the phones this thin. Now they can. Even thinner.
Same for me. Big screen but super light and thin form factor.
I have it to battery last all day and the volume
Is loud enough
To
Thats what i have talking about. Not everyone wants a brick in their pocket
Same. Thank god compact and slim phones are back that too with flagship specs. Just hoping the customisable bixby key will also be back. Prolly why I loved the lg g7 and s10 series phones with slim profile and extra button to customise. Now with iphone and oneplus, samsung should also hopefully bring it back!
right!
Where can I find the wallpaper on the phone in the video?
7:15 I'm from the future. Leaks were right. Apple followed suit with the iPhone 17 Air.
I think version 2 will have better battery life. I feel like they rushed it out to beat the iPhone Air.
Oh yea definitely
100%
Rush to beat apple 😂😂😂 you isheeps are something. Samsung been working on edge since 2023 july.
@wannabe-SJDoesn't matter if it was in development for 20 years, the tech is new and hasn't been available for long.
They won’t even compete against each other though. S25 Edge is $1,100 and iPhone 17 Air is going to be $900. Of course S25 Edge has better materials (Titanium), speakers (Stereo vs Air’s mono) and cameras (S25 Ultra level 200Mp vs single camera on the Air), but due to the price and of course, iPhone’s popularity, iPhone 17 Air is going to sell much much much more than S25 Edge and be more popular. But still I’m glad they’re not leaving all the spotlight for Apple.
did i just see the iphone air in the thumbnail?
Damn
It reminds me a bit of the Galaxy Alpha from a few years ago
The last one with "Edge" branding was S7 Edge (What a beast of of a package it was! Still got it after all these years.. and it works like a charm)
It was a pretty phone. But those curved displays persisted way too long, they were wildly impractical.
S7 edge is the best phone ever made by Samsung
You nailed it right in the beginning. I just want a flat phone w a big battery without a camera bump and doesn’t wobble.
then get a pixel 9a!
@stupian7 right go from camera bump to camera strip
@L111zrd 9a doesn't have any bump...
@stupian7I should add that I want that as the norm and not the exception. I also hate the trend of bigger and bigger phones and compact phones are extinct.
Get the Redmagic 10 Pro then.
06:55 Yes, thin is great. But what we 'actually' want, is what the S6 Edge was. Those dimensions, with today's tech.
Nahhh i like Phone with bigger screen, since i won't spend extra dollar for an Ipad
Is that an iPhone 4 in the hand in the background? Hommage to „you’re holding it wrong“?
0:38 it's called Pixel 9a
Until you try to do anything that requires performance... even my 2 yo s23p is still almost 40% faster lol
It's midrange@beckeranton767
@beckeranton767eh it's really good for what I have. Sure synthetic benchmarks are great, but in daily use it's really good.
Nobody asked for that cool intro shot either but it so pleasing to my eyes 😍😍
Bigger battery and no camera bump. It feels like a dream for these ultra flagships... That is exactly why I will be moving to the Red Magic phones next.
I'm done upgrading until they give us the batteries we want. I don't need thin. I don't need folds. I need a better battery.
That's what the Google pixel 9a does and I bought it and I love it. Wish more phones did that
@PotatoBandana Most people still charge their phones every night. With that in mind, I don't think they really need a much bigger battery since modern phones easily last a day.
@C3lloman They don't though. My iPhone 15 Pro never makes it the day if I use it at all, and that's at home on wifi. If you ever travel abroad, you're tied to portable batteries.
@PotatoBandana Then your phone is broken. iPhone 15 Pro should last around 5-7 hours screen on time on Wi-Fi at least.
How do you easily switch what your daily phone is? Anytime I switch phones it’s a whole process and a headache
9:10 apple will just use software to say hey... We actually never needed such a big battery.
They do really pull it off tho. The iphones last a full day
All we ask for is longer battery life, phones don’t need to be this thin.
I feel like the only reason Samsung hasn't adopted silicon carbon batteries yet is that they are still extremely cautious about anything battery related after the note 7 issues. Same with why they don't go crazy on the charging speeds like the Chinese brands. Probably won't see them in Samsung or iPhone models for another few years yet if I had to put money on it.
Really? You don't say... Wait thats the stated reason in this video would you look at that
@Numb_bro thought he cooked
They're working on Silicon Carbon batteries, so this was probably just done to be faster than Apple.
😂@mooseratt
Given their recent slump in sales and the subsequent restructuring at Samsung, I highly doubt that to be the case. Furthermore, considering that batteries are one of the easiest and most cost-efficient ways for a phone manufacturer to upgrade a phone, I foresee SiC technology coming to Samsung devices much, much sooner than you think.
still no custim icon shape changing stuff?
I swear i thought he already talked about all this on his channel!
Same
Same with the “Google/Apple/Samsung need each other” video. Everything he’s already said in one video
That was the hands on, this is the review after using it for a while
It's funny to see slim phones becoming a trend nowadays, considering vivo X5 max was released 10 years ago with a thickness of just 4.75mm!
Yeah did people forget that whole trend of thing phones that happened then? I remember constant advertising for thinner phones back then before people realised it was a bad idea
Samsung releases Ultra Thin Bar phone trends 20 years ago, too. It is just revivial 😊
Yeah. I wish this trend wouldn’t come back. It’s just gonna cause battery life to be an issue all over again.
Starting intro was wholesome 🔥❤️
Here I am a few months after the iPhone Air’s release, listening to the part where you bring it up 🤧
