Nice. I started getting red plastic cups in sleeves from Dollar Tree, take a stack and drill holes in the bottom and repeat. About the same size as a three inch pot.

Those are good ideas. I've made paper seed starting pots out of newspaper that worked pretty good.

I’m new to your area and really appreciate your advice. I’m doing raised beds because of black walnut trees. Your advice got me through a good summer and my lettuce is growing nicely

I'm counting down the days until I sow seed starts for my winter/spring garden, between Jan 3-5. Until then, I still have my fall/winter garden growing. We've had four nights with temps in the low 20s. So far, my garden is hanging on. The Pak Choi, Napa Cabbage, and Swiss Chard look a little beat up, but they'll recover. Three of my red cabbage are forming heads, one is questionable. I've given up on my Napa Cabbage. October and November were too warm for them, and they bolted. I am using them for chicken treats. The cauliflower and broccoli are forming heads. A few plants are a little beat up, but they'll make it. The beets, carrots and parsnips are loving the cold nights. It is forecasted to drop down to 19F and it is a long freeze tonight, 14 hours, so I covered the broccoli, cauliflower, and red cabbage with 6 mil plastic. I also brought my Meyers Lemon tree inside for the night. Sylacauga, AL zone 7a.
I've recently harvested out the Komatsuna, Tatsoi, Yellow Heart Winter Choy, turnips, and my first crop of Pak Choi. I have a second crop of Pak Choi nearly ready to harvest. A week, if it makes it through the cold blast.

This is a great idea. I might try that. Last year I used paper flower pots from the garden store (came with the seed starter kit), but that would be a bit expensive to get by themselves. I've also used paper cups from the dollar store.

Why put the mosquito bits at the bottom instead of mix in a small amount into the soil? I’m not understanding how the mosquitoes bits would work best in the bottom. Is it because you are bottom watering?
Thank you for the quick tips & creative ideas.

They have a bacteria. The bacteria creates toxins. The water wicks it up and the fungus gnats crawl around and even go in the bottom. The pieces do get fungus on them and on the bottom, you dont see it.

Save your paper/cardboard egg cartons!!! They're perfect for starting seedlings. As the plant grows/needs to be transplanted just plant it in some new soil, the roots will grow through the damp paper.

Why would you go to that much trouble or even expense? You can use empty plastic containers from yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese or other food containers and they will last practically forever.

I don't think water bottles are much different than yogurt cups. A lot of people dont eat yogurt. And the other containers are quite large. When you have limited growing space, the foil containers can be made to fit.
