Hi dear, Thank you for providing this tutorial. You did a great job of explaining how to do the block printing. Your block printing on the fabric turned out extremely lovely. Good wishes.
Dear Maddy, this question has been explained in the comments many times. Please read other comments and you'll learn a lot. Let's create something wonderful
Dera Shikha, I hope you read this. I am so thankful to you and so many people like you who have watched this video and learnt the art. I am happy that I was able to contribute to the community. Much love from a fellow artist. Keep watching.
What a great video. I have some lovely Indian blocks that I got from the India Shop in England. I've never got good results from them but now I can't wait to try your techniques. I love your fabric. Thank you
This is exactly what I was looking for.YOu are the best :) I have a question though.PLease could you tell me how to wash the blocks to remove the color?
Thank you +shikhaniyogi :) Wash it under running water (tap water), you can use a toothbrush to remove the ink from difficult areas. Then carefully remove the water with soft cloth. It should be dried by wiping it with cloth and leaving in the open for drying. Don't dry in sun as harsh sun may harm the wood.
hi there. thanks for the idea. I have tried it. it was awesome. but I want to know one thing. if I have done anything worng accidentally, is there any way to remove the color. please let me know. that would be very helpful.
Hi! if you have used a permanent color, there is no way to remove it in domestic setup. Professionals are able to remove colors up to some extent with help of correct chemicals and process.
Hi I saw many videos on block printing. but your way of using felt piece made a lot of difference. Kudos to you. May I know which option of paint works out cheaper. fabric paints or the ones you showed. I want to do it on a bed sheet

Hi mam it is very nice. I like to know whether the block has to be dipped in oil overnight before useing it on fabric. Before printing the fabric has to be washed and ironed. PL reply to my queries.
Dear Sumathi mam, sorry for the delay in replying. No, the block shouldn't be dipped into oil before printing. Oil repulses the water, and when you use the dye, the print won't come well. If the cloth has starch on it, then definitely wash it before printing. Also, ironing the fabric is advisable if you don't have a proper printing table setup where you can pin the fabric tightly to the table. If you have a proper printing table setup in place, you don't have to iron the cloth as pins will take care of it.
mam, your tutorial is very informative.I will be very thankful to you if u kindly tell me what are water based colours and in which ratio to add binder and colours.thank you .

hi. ....I visited desi crafts shop website and found the blocks to be very expensive. request you to do a video on colour mixing and also inform where these colours are available. I felt fabric paints are more easily available than the waste based ones. pls let me know the durability of water based colors. will they bleed when washed
The problem is that the ink goes through to the other side of the fabric. This is fine for cushion covers, but for tea towels, you don't want to see blobs of bled-through in on the reverse.
Dear Anna, I am hoping that it's not very late. I am sorry for the delay in replying. So, it seems that the color consistency is thinner than expected. In order to print without marks and blobs, please make sure that you make thick paste of color and binder. A little thinner than cake batter, you know what I'm saying... Hope this helps! Please share your experience if I was helpful.
+Pujan Brar thank you so much pujan :) Both are good but they serve different purpose and give totally different finish. The acrylic paints have gentle sheen after printing. Dyes work great with both cotton and silks and they are quite durable. The acrylic paint motifs require reverse side iron as heat may remove / smudge the paint from the fabric surface, destroying the motif.
WHAT KIND OF COLOUR DO YOU USE? AND AFTER WASHING?THE COLOUR GOES LIKE LITTLE PIECES? IF YOU HAVE TIME PLEASE ANSWER TO ME. THANK YOU GEORGE ATHENS-GREECE
Water based Dye. From your comment it seems you've used acrylic paints to print. Acrylic tends to break into pieces over time. However, if used with good amount of thinning agents, this can be avoided. Water based dyes are the best for printing on silk or cotton although silk requires much lengthier process that that of cotton. Water based dyes are a combination of paste dyes and binder. You can ask at a local craft supply shop about water based dyes. Hope this helps.
Kindly ensure not to overlook the crucial step in the procedure, which is creating the printing paste. It is imperative to provide detailed information regarding the types of ingredients utilized and their precise composition. This essential aspect forms the backbone of the process and contributes significantly to the overall success of the task at hand.
