- A trip back to '89 and how Racine's downtown appeared back then. Easy to see how things have changed for the better. (Note: pan of the lakefront was shot from the top of the now demolished Racine Motor Inn, site of the present day Johnson building)
takes me back to late 80´s and 90´s when i was living there. im from brazil my name is fabio and i miss this place somuch ... love racine
My hometown. I miss it . great times and memories
What a trip down memory lane! I graduated from Case in 1990 and I remember how the downtown used to look. I haven't lived in Racine (or the US for that matter) for years but my son does so it's always interesting to come back from time to time and see the changes. I do have to agree with the person who said it was shame about where the Johnson Building is because it blocks great views of the lake but fighting the Johnsons on anything is an effort in futility. Not to say they don't do good things for the city (RAM comes to mind) but unfortunately it's always on their terms so it's always a catch 22.
To the other people who are complaining about how much Racine sucks, you do realize you don't have to stay? You can move. You might even find that Racine isn't the gawdawful place you believe it is.
First off, not everyone has the money or even the ability to just move out of town. Second, just by saying that you're only ignoring the issues and only allowing them to get bigger. If people are complaining about how Racine has issues then they have absolutely every right to speak up about those issues. A lot of the people speaking up about all the problems here seems to be a lot of other people who were also born and/or grew up here, so they by definition have every right to complain. It also does not seem like a fair trade off to automatically blame the residents and invalidate their claims based on your experience. Being proud of a place where you're born and raised doesn't exactly mean excusing it from criticism. You're speaking only through nostalgia and not logic.
@@girlscanbedrummers5804 that sure is a lot of words just to say you have no reading comprehension.
I'm from Racine myself, and I love the city. But it has changed alot. But I still miss my home
wow that really took me back i was 8 years old but still remember it that way!
very neat!! loved the video and seeing how much downtown changed, somethings I had completely forgotten about. Thanks.
Wow this was the year I was born. How cool. This is forever my home.
Alex Defatte Hey, Alex. Any relation to Tony Defatte? Went to school with him.
@@yoty79 Yeah, we share the same last name. Jk. He's my cousin on my father's side. Haven't really connected with the Defatte side of my family properly. Hopefully when this madness is over I'll get another chance.
Wow great footage
This makes me so sad because this is so beautiful and it is all boarded up now.
Yeah, when ever you have such a disproportionate in all things living two big opposites this is what you get. Now the slums of the poverty people who could see it but never afford anything on any lake front anywhere. Give it to them and they will tear it up or down or both. Have no knowledge on how to maintain more than a lawn maybe. So sad, sent them to school and went home to the hood. Yeah OK. Peace.Jeanie
I graduated from GATEWAY Tec college 1981 enjoyed living there but mom wanted us closer to her. The city bus was a great benefits 👍
I grew up here and I loved it. Washington Park High. Class of 79'

The year I was born 89 my town

Erik Piirto it was remodeled
except the cars
it still kinda look the same now
Kalaya Ross ya

Really poor resolution in this video, but I guess that was state-of-the-art back in '89. One wonders why people even bothered.
Originally broadcast quality transferred to VHS thirty years ago then to digital. No longer have access to a Betacam deck.
lmao so 90's
Two kinds of people inhabit Racine, old money and no money. No money goes to Horlick, old money goes to Prarie. Any questions?
I dunno. I went to Case.
What are the Case and Park kids then?
my mom said she hates the johnson building and said its ugly and justs blocks the veiw from the lake so no point in calling it lake view now and I AGREE also she said it took away the only spot for desent parking snd paying is rediculous and you get your car broken into and mugged the crime here now is redicuolus I'm 20 and I wish wished it still looked like this now :(
@crazedtj Just stating facts. It did look cleaner in the video.
you obviously don't live here then
@crazedtj why does everyone get all butt hurt when i state a fact, in 1994 Racine was on forbes top 10 cities to start a bussiness now it is one off the 100 worst cities in the U.S. Don't hate.
@blakers1023 hater
