  • We thought we might see some small HP and MPG gains by adding the Magnaflow cat back exhaust system on our 2022 Ford Maverick Ecoboost FX4. www.magnaflow.com/products/19...

I’d like to point out that some manufacturers claim gains of 5-10% but I would guess any gains I saw were likely only in the 2% range but without a dyno it’s all just speculation.

You're not really going to see any gain without a proper tune you might even get a decrease in power cutting emissions without a tune.

Hey, Bob the Builder here on MTC. Good product, used it before on different truck. Thanx for posting.

Sounds great! Thanks for all the tips. I have watched your other compilation video with various exhaust notes. I am curious what other systems you consider along with the magma flow?
I want a setup like yours. Something to drown out the engine noise, but not make it annoying and loud. But loud enough when I go WOT I can hear it.

Nice video. I wonder if they make a catback straight-pipe (no muffler) exhaust for the Maverick seeing as how the EcoBoost engine shouldn't be too loud because of the turbo. I've been daily driving various WRXs for years now and one of the first mods has always been to go muffler-delete and it's not super loud because of the turbo.

Cat backs don’t add any power that was 30 years ago when exhausts were restrictive. And in some rare case where it does add power it’s so negligible you’ll never feel the difference. The “I feel” the difference is in your head.
Now you wanna talk about swapping down pipe out for a 200cel or complete cat less then yes the gains would be seat of the pants difference and there is a valid conversation. Sorry, built quite a few turbo cars from fiesta st, to bmw 335i, 340i Audi s3 and none of them had car back gains it was purely for sound. The intakes are in the same category it’s such minimal if any gains it’s just a louder turbo spool so people think they’re going faster.

either your gas pedal or your foot is broken....what does it sound like at 7000 rpm?

    • @MaverickTruckMods
      @MaverickTruckMods  8 месяцев назад

In sport mode at higher RPM it's a bit louder but not by too much :)

i dont think you would see any gain under 3k rpm....which you never rev over...at least in the vidyo

So you're getting 28 mph with an ecoboost? Hmm, I'm only getting 23 with mixed driving...

My MPG has dropped to around 26 after I added larger tires, still pretty good though. Previously on freeway I was getting 30 MPG,

Come on feather foot! What happens when you really put your foot in it? A leisurely acceleration with 3000 to 3500 rpm shift points doesn’t fill up the exhaust system with any air or noise. You dog has no bark nor bite. So your not making much power or noise either way and really stuffing up the exhaust. At 3500 rpm, and 30ish % engine throttle demand, your engine has not even begun to wake up and make any serious power, air flow or noise. 50 to 70 horsepower does not make any where near the noise as 200 to 250 applied horsepower does out the exhaust pipe.

I am planning on doing a follow up video at 6 months and I'll do some higher RPM passes for you :) The Magnaflow do have a break in period and I can tell you it is a bit louder now that it was when I first installed it and I except it to get a bit louder as time goes on, however, it's still relatively quiet compared to some of the other options out there.

@@MaverickTruckMods looking forward to the lead footed max output passes and what you think of the overall change at six months. First time I have ever heard about a break in period for a cat back exhaust change. I myself a very picky about the sound, tone and tuning of my exhaust and most aftermarket systems I find are to wheezy, blatty and droning for for my taste. When I hear one I like, I really notice it and it’s music. Most of the others are just loud obnoxious noise.

@@CarsandCoding Haven't had a chance to do a full video with external cameras (quiet road I like to use has construction) but here's a quick clip of launch at about 2,000 rpm (prob about 85-90% throttle). Exhaust isn't loud in the cab even at higher RPM, just performance sound. ruclips.net/video/7iwHgGKtXHQ/видео.html

The noise would be pretty much the same. Except when the gas engine is not running. With his feather foot driving, he would be in battery electric acceleration mode much his acceleration demand usage. This guy is an easy driver, not an aggressive one. His 28 mpg out of the ecoboost all wheel drive FX4 turbo is a good indication he is not hard on the throttle very often. Otherwise, his gas mileage would be significantly lower.
