- Hayley Westenra ヘイリー 海莉 sings Amazing Grace アメイジング·グレイス a cappella, live on stage at the New Zealand National Christchurch Memorial Service, following the tragic earthquake of February 22nd in Christchurch.
The service took place in front of many thousands, at North Hagley Park Christchurch on 18 March 2011. Christchurch is Hayley's home town, large parts of which was destroyed by the earthquake.
This video is uploaded as HD to maximise the RUclips audio and video quality but it was recorded as SD video and upconverted to 720p.
That is exactly how amazing Grace should be sung The situation, the emotion.
I am also a Christchurch boy. One minute of disaster and the city will never be the same.
This performance expresses the grief, the resilience and the resolve.

Voice of an angel? Forgive me but I have never heard an angel sing.I have heard Hayley sing and it is beyond incredible. This young lady has the purest voice I have ever heard.An absolute amazing talent.

I first heard Hayley when I was in the beautiful garden city of Christchurch in 2002. I do hope that from the rubble and the tragedy that Christchurch will once again be rebuilt and renewed to its former splendour. I was there only six weeks, but in 67 years I have not found a more splendid city or a friendlier people.

I was moved to tears. ;'-( I remember when she was with Celtic Woman, who I have seen in person. Unfortunately, she was not part of the group then. This was my mother's favorite song! I remember my Mother singing this so many times in church. I must say Thank You Haley for your Awesome "a capala" version of Amazing Grace your & God Given Voice that you use to Praise God with!:-)

WOW, Amazing Grace sang by Amazing Singer..countless times put in repeat.
How can 37 people dislike this? I was there this day and i balled my eyes out. I had strangers around me doing the same thing, and in the area i was standing in everyone started to hold hands and everyone hugged at the end. Such a amzaing voice. We all need a song like this in our heart at times has they are now.
As if anybody needed proof that this wonderful young lady has a stunning vocal. A few years back i asked a Bass-baritone to possibly sing a lyric i'd penned for the music of Vivaldi. He said it might be a problem scheduling anything because he was working on a charity song with Hayley Westenra...
So i said "it's fine...she takes priority..she is special"....
I eventually managed to find my own Soprano to sing three songs for me....google Hannah Drury....SWEET LADY ENGLAND, THE STORM and EPIPHANIA....my patience and respect for Hayley and that other singer seems to have totally paid off.
