Water safety instructors say babies as young as 6 months old can learn basic swimming skills that could possibly save their lives. CBS News' Marlie Hall reports.
Smart, but I hope it won't make parents overconfident thinking babies are OK unsupervised around water. Even if they can swim, their heads are still very big and they don't have a lot of strength yet, nor much problem solving ability. Still got to make sure all gates are locked, and still got to scoop up baby and take them with you if you have to go indoors for a minute.
And when I become a parent, I am gonna shelter my baby from the cold, cruel, harsh world they will only be home schooled and know only of me and their father along with their own home.
I remember wondering about how babies can swim when I first got the Nirvana Nevermind album seeing the baby underwater swimming after the dollar bill on a fish hook.
This is what we should do about most dangerous situations. If no one will teach your child to swim/shoot a gun/defend themselves, then you teach them. Kids need to learn these things; it's life or death, 24/7.
@@profribasmat217 clearly I'm not talking about a 3 month old. I'm talking about children, 5+, who have the capability to understand that the gun is a tool and a weapon, not a toy. Learning at a young age keeps then from becoming the nutjobs of the world.
I have been doing the same with my 2 daughters because I love them and everyone should teach their children too, drowning must be a horrible way to die! Great video 👍👍
Yup, in a controlled environment. There is literraly a trained adult above them. I dont get why people would get upset there, this skill might some day save life of these babies. Plus it looks like they are having fun
Alisha Unicorn Playz ROBLOX babies actually learn how to swim by themselves kinda like dogs because if you put a dog in the water it will paddle by itself the same way a newborn child will
I learned how to swim in a lake at 4. my mom taught me how.. It only took a few minutes. She would have taught me earlier, but we didn't have a pool or access to a lake.
Well I remember back in the early 70s they were teaching baby's to swim then , I wanted that for my son to , but so many mother's signed up for the classes , I never got in. But they swim like fish any way Joe was 5 n Amy was 4 . Lisa was 6-7.
It's crazy that babies don't panick in these situations despite being a damn BABY But more mature people somewhat manage to die even in dropping of water💀
Dry drowning occurs when a child inhales water through the nose or mouth, causing a spasm in the airway and difficulty breathing. ... Secondary or “delayed” drowninghappens when a child inhales water into his or her lungs, causing inflammation or edema (swelling).
I like everything about this video except for the grouchy guy saying "If you're nervous as a parent, get over it." You don't have to be rude my dude lol
I have to disagree. I disagree that they know how to swim. Like move their arms and legs to stay above water. They cannot do that in the womb. However, I can see where you would think they are used to the fluid in and out of their mouths and noses.
At the beginning did you see that one mother that had her baby on the flat styrofoam yellow flotation table..... she tipped the table over to dump her baby in the water.😲😮 did you see that other scene where the swimming instructor was in the water with a baby and then she picked him up and threw him ?! 😮
I got into an abortion argument with a guy a while ago. He basiclly said new borns are able to swim in their own instintually, which means they're intelligent and we shouldn't abort them at any stage of a pregnancy. Glad I watched this kuz it proves that not only do they need training, they aren't actually new borns. The children in this video are at least 6 months and go through extensive training to Basiclly float on their backs.
I think what he meant is they know how to hold their breathe. They need it for breastfeeding. As they grow up, they forget how to do it so need to be retrained.
your children will drown one day, don't play like that. just because they can hold themselves for a few minutes doesn't mean they're swimmers. teach them when it's time.
They are teaching them how to swim for life. It's easier for a child to learn than an adult. All sport swimmers started when they were kids so this is a good thing. It's just like learning a language. Do we wait until we are grown ups before we start learning how to speak?
@@kristina98005 Wrong. A child starts learning as soon as he/she is born. Haven't your seen mothers and fathers talking and singing to their babies even though they don't understand? That's the learning process. Take this advice which is scientifically and psychologically proven. Whatever you want your child to be or do, start the teaching process when he or she is a baby. During that time they have a inherent ability to learn. That's why children don't struggle with languages. They can speak about 3-4 languages at the same time.

Good comment.
Lisa Daxer Much agreed!

I highly doubt that parents are going to leave babies unsupervised around bodies of water just because they taught them to swim
This is the best time to learn. The earlier, the better.

Babies are natural swimmers. In the womb they are surrounded by fluid!
Mark my words she's gonna be one of the legendary swimmers the world has ever seen in future. don't know why but can sense it.

Of course they know how to swim before walking. I mean they spent their first nine months in, well, fluid.

I had all my babies in swim classes. Drowning is in the top 5 causes of death in children. Teaching them to swim reduces that statistic a great deal.
