The inaugural release from Malin Génie and Per Hammar, the Scania EP, is a pretty inspired-sounding offering. Seeing the light of day via Malin Génie’s self-titled label, it’s the fourth release in an increasingly essential catalogue, with this one arguably its best yet. Two producers who share a love for dub techno and hardware-produced jams, the record features three originals as well as a suitably stunning remix from Génie’s fellow Mandar member, S.A.M.
Both producers have been on a rich vein of form of late, with Swedish producer Hammar teaming up with Rossko to great effect courtesy of their debut release on Fuse sublabel, Infuse. Génie meanwhile, has been keeping busy with the label in question, with this EP marking the burgeoning label’s fourth release.
We get underway courtesy of the dub-heavy, atmospheric sounds of ‘Lijnbaan Dubb’. A smoky, atmospheric cut that features some brilliant bass kicks, this is loopy, hypnotic techno of the sort that’s also full of groove. Allowing just enough light to peek in, it’s a whimsical, colourful track that’s hard to find fault with
