In Australia we are not allowed to carry a gun or a knife. I was walking with my dog in the forest, a guy parked across the track to slow me down, my dog only 18 months old, a whippet, growled and lunged at him three times, snapping at him when he moved towards me. To this day I think I owe her my life. I am only just under 5 ft, and a very small frame. I would love to walk in the forest, but I’m too scared to now. People suck, you never know who is watching you . I love your advice thank you

Such a shame to miss out on nature because of shitty people though, do you have the home space for a bigger dog that will guard you better? A well trained pit bull wont let a creep near you or if you prefer something more sensitive that will also guard you very well I suggest a Rhodesian Ridgeback or two, my wife runs solo in the countryside here in France with our RR’s as well as pepper spray with no issues. That or find buddies to hike with. I hope you get back to nature soon especially during these weird times where nature is so essential.
I walk every day, and have been attacked by dogs on several occasions- my favorite self-defense tool is a S&W 26" expandable police baton. Had to use it once and it did the job. What I've learned is you have to have it in your hand ready to go. The last 3 times dogs that attacked me (5 times for 2024) it took approx. 3 seconds to close their distance to engage.
As you know, having that baton out before these dogs even come close is a good deterrent. They know what it means. Appearing to bend down for a rock, even if one isn't available has also worked for me on some occasions.
0:00 My first weapon is my mind. What I have experienced, my situational awareness, and avoidance tactics. Second is my walkabout. I'm am older guy. Im not a cripple, but I have found a solid oak walking stick with good grain and a ball handle helps me negotiate uneven ground. It has on occasion, persuaded troublesome dogs to go elsewhere. I have trained with sticks since I was a kid in the Philipines back in the 70s. Third, is my knife. If all else has failed, I'm cornered , and imminent bodily injury or death, here we go. I am a boring old man. A home body. I'm in at sunset and don't leave the house until after sunrise. Nothing good happens after sunset.
Creative people come alive after sunset, and do their best work. If you enjoy entertainment at home, it's likely someone wrote and composed and in some cases performed it after dark.
@SteveAubrey1762. Please do not swing sticks at dogs. I doubt you will ever make contact with them and I doubt you will ever need to. "Barking dogs don't bite." Just breathe, back off, and walk away. (Don't run.)
At 66 I couldn’t agree with you more. Stupid people come out at night. No sense in poking that gorilla. I’ve got security doors in the house and armed to the “T” I rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. FAFO!
43x, 3”-4” fixed blade, brass knucks. 2 out of 3 ain’t bad! Brilliant minds man! LOL You are a great voice for this subject. Always calm, reasonable, and thoughtful. Keep ‘em coming
Say, that's a nice fixed blade sir!! Yeah, I could see this guy talking to his attacker in his calm voice while fighting saying something like, "you have made me mad by making me have to destroy you" LOL
As a retired Corrections Officer I concur on OC (pepper spray). I have used it many times and can 100% recommend it in stopping an aggressors momentum.
@@urjnlegend You're right. I've seen a guy get peppered by two big cans (one was mine) and he still wanted to throw a barrel at us that was in front of our club to hold our stanchion rope. Some drugs and states of mind can render OC almost completely useless! (He felt the pain much later when the police arrived.)
@@urjnlegendIt's pretty effective overall. A very small percentage can keep going. Also, how was the OP assuming anything? You just need to be "right guy".
I'm a psychologist and some time ago worked 10 years as a part of the response team in a supermax for the criminally insane. It was an incredibly violent place. We often used pepperspray before rushing in and then let the batons talk. In that environment you really learn to be observant and ready to respond on a seconds notice. It quickly begin to rub off on your every day life outside the walls. To this day I scan everything around me, even when I am out shopping - for people standing too close to me or acting weird.
When you carry pepper spray pull it out several times a day on a walk. That’s training you need to remember you have it and be comfortable pulling it it fast.
good advice I was a chef for years I carried all my personal knifes in a roll on the bus someone complained, police said fine as they are the tools of my trade
Be careful with pepper spray. I used pepper spray (actually CS gas spray to be exact) as a teenager when I was growing up in Germany. Used it against a gang of thieves that previously pulled a gun on my school principal. Wind blew much of the CS gas back in my face and I was as blind as the guy I had to spray. Then his buddies came and kicked me to the ground. Fun times. I was lucky to survive (my friends all ran away into the school to get help--- atleast that was their excuse for why they ran away).
One thing I have been taught in self defense is be sure your knife is easily available to your nondominant hand. God forbid you have to pull your gun and for some reason some one grabs it, you want your knife accessible to your weak hand so you can hold the gun and defend yourself with the knife. Great video, those are the same three that I carry. In this state, the gun and even knife is your absolute last resort as they are a guaranteed prison sentence.
Mine are my fists n boots. I live in Cardiff. We're not allowed ANY weapons for self-protection. A walking stick, just about get away with it. Dye spray, ok with a good reason. Get caught with a fixed blade, 5 years inside minimum. Bummer, eh? Anyways, keep the videos coming, mate, really enjoy and learn from them. Hwyl, Taffy Nige from South Wales, UK 🤘
Same, minus the spray. Also, a G43X, fixed blade 5" knife, horizontal on the belt. When I go walking, I do carry a cedar cane I whittled. I don't need it, but at 65, it is not out of the ordinary. I take it shopping as well. All you Grey Beards like me, rethink a cane of good construction. Oak or cedar are hard, sturdy woods. The thicker it is, the heavier, so not too thick, not too thin. My first two were wrong, and number three was just right. Food for thought.
Straight up, what I believe the Best Practice where possible. Gun carry may not necessarily be available and everything still applies. Another great video with reality based advice. Your calm, steady, and practical presentation style is appreciated by the more mature (read seniors) in the audience whom I find in my crowd. Thanks much.
My three: pocket carry Kahr PM40 w/spare mag (can be swapped for IWB G19 if need be), fixed 3.5" drop-point blade, and my favorite, a walking stick. Cane for town, tall staff for woods. It's a multipurpose tool and weapon, already in hand, that can be dialed up or down in force depending on need, unlike a gun or knife. Like a low-tech Star Trek phaser, it goes from stun to kill. Ankle-nipper chihuahuas or chows can be rapped on the nose to get their attention. Growling mutts can be held away with the tip. 4-legged or 2-legged attackers can get full-power swings to drive off, disable, or neutralize, especially in defending against surprise attacks before unholstering #1.
Here in Queensland Australia we’re not allowed to carry any type of knife without a lawful reason. An example of that would be camping, fishing or the type of occupation that requires utility cutting. I’ve trained in martial arts from an early age and stay physically active. Luckily I haven’t encountered a physical threat in years as we live in a relatively safe area. In saying that however, I do still carry an Olight Warrior Mini 2 flashlight. The size and weight fit perfectly in my hand along with 2 modes of actuation (one being a tail switch that provides instant turbo mode). There’s also enough of a bezel to make it an effective striking tool. Love the content brother and I appreciate your perspective on these matters 😊. Stay safe
Kiwi here, we too have to use strong language to defend ourselves from people that don't follow the rules. I feel bad for our English friends that have lost the right to even use words 😉.
This senior lady carries everything you mentioned. But because I am small and I do not dress like a man, I have to downsize the knife. I carry a Ka-Bar Acheron fixed blade. It is excellent. The Glock 42 is my CC with an extended magazine, so one in the pipe and eight in the magazine. Nine in the magazine usually results in a jam. It's good to know your limitations, and the limitations of the gear you carry.
@@rvjackpot1971 I love modern 380. It will definitely get the job done if the need arises. The Glock 42 causes no back pain whatsoever, and although it is the largest of all the pocket 380s, there's no printing issue at all. I carry in one of the black neoprene belly bands. Those belly bands are completely secure especially for a smaller gun, but I even carried a Glock 19 that way for years. Belly bands are not flimsy, the pockets are very stiff and tight, and I only use the kind that have a strap that keeps it from ever wiggling free or falling out if I lean forward, etcetera.
Thank you for all of your content you share. Over the past year, walking my dog around my neighborhood has become a little more sketchy than it ever has been. Lots of cars that come in from out of town on our road and in the area where we live right by a school. Many vehicles have slowed down and drove around the block and seemed to follow me in some circumstances. I always got my phone out visibly and even during the day when this car followed me around 4 different directions on our walk at 10AM… I always bring my phone out and visibly show I am taking pictures or calling someone while not losing sight of their vehicle. I’ve been uneasy lately and worry as my dog is a husky- if you know anything of huskies, they are no guard dog. She is the biggest baby and Ik I can’t think she would be able to protect me or attack if needed. I’ve looked into pepper spray and possibly one of the tasers that are the size of a flash light.. my fiance wants me to get my concealed carry for this reason. It’s so sad that going for a walk used to be such a stress relief for me after work and lately it’s become more uneasy and stressful at times than it ever has before. Thank you again for sharing everything
All three of those options are prohibited in most European and Asian countries. A high intensity compact flash, like those for cameras, can give you a minute to get out of a situation even in daylight.
Great video! I think I'd sure hate to be in a knife fight most of all. The only way not to be hurt or killed would be to always be aware of your surroundings. Thanks again for the good advice!
A small flashlight 3/4” dia 5-6” long or even a piece of dowel the same size. Look up yawara for how to use. If you feel like your in hostile territory cut a hiking stick. Easy to use. Easy to “lose”
Check out Cane Master's, they offer excellent self defense canes. Nation wide they are considered a medical device, weather you need one or not, which takes care of a lot of legality if used. I've used mine against dogs and drunks with good results. Made in America! Hoo Rah!
Thank you! My husband and I are gearing up with self defense items. Since we can’t afford a gun or training right now, we are finding other ways of protection. Your tips are priceless!❤
I like the idea of pepper spray. I am 64 and walk with a cane. I am not comfortable with a firearm although i do like the fixed blade, mainly to be used as a tool to cut a seatbelt if needed. I think it's a good idea to take another adult with you. Someone might think twice if it's 2 people. Not always, but maybe.
If you walk with a cane also look at the 19th c martial art of bartitsu. It's designed around fighting with a cane. I leaned it because I worked as a bodyguard in the UK. We can't carry weapons but your be surprised what doesn't count as a weapon that can be used as one.
Why aren't you comfortable with a firearm? I can guarantee you that you would be far more uncomfortable trying to defend yourself as a senior citizen with only a knife or something similar.
Another Great Video. Your 3 EDCs are absolutely realistic. Mine are handgun, a fixed or folding blade, sometimes a stun gun or extending baton. Thanks Brother for always giving us "Food for Thought."
In my area, carrying a fixed blade really seems like overkill, and I'm not sure if it's even legal. About 10 years ago I found the Gerber Paraframe II. When I'm in a situation that seems sketchy, whether it's humans or dogs, I slip it out palmed in my hand so it's not visible to a potential attacker. It's very quick and easy to open one-handed. I practice both of these movements regularly. About a year ago I also started carrying the tactical pen sold by Jason Hanson. I like that I can take it through airport security, which I've done numerous times, and it's a less lethal option for dealing with humans.
You are amazing! Thank you very much for the timely, detailed and informative use of these different self defense options. Generally speaking you don’t need to kill somebody to stop them from being a threat. Excellent video.
As a UK based bodyguard I was limited, but not prohibited per se, of being armed. So I would carry a hardened tactical flashlight. And a Kevlar umbrella. Both are legally as one is a tool and the other very useful here in a rainy country. Both are also tools of the job too. The top one of course is training with them and in self defence. But the most important was research and investigation as knowing all the exits, alternative routes and the area is always the best way of self preservation.
I carry different things at different times of the year. But my three favorite items are my 26 inch collapsible baton. A solid fixed blade like a Cold Steel Recon Tanto, Cold Steel Tac 1 or a Hoffner Hand Spear. And a high intensity FlashLight. Here in Canada Firearms are being banned in a big way. They are planning on confiscation. People still have HandGuns but they are essentially banned. You can't use them or go anywhere with them. You can't buy any or sell them. And there is no such thing as carrying a Firearm here. Well unless you are a criminal. Then you are okay. Also Pepper Spray is not to be carried. You are not supposed to carry other weapons either like knives. In fact you cannot carry any implement for the purpose of self defense. To do so will probably get you arrested. If you carry anything. It has to be kept a secret. But if you have nothing with you. Your chances of survival are slim. We have a crime wave going on. And the cops are telling us to leave our key fobs at the door. So thieves don't have to go looking for it when they come to steal our cars. Because they have real loaded guns and will use them. The cops have become useless in the fight against crime but they don't want you to take the steps to protect yourself or your loved ones. For me Bad Laws are asking to be ignored and broken. When half a dozen people with no knowledge. And are out of touch with reality make Laws that Millions of us are expected to follow without offering any challenge. That does NOT make any sense. Just protect yourself, they are not going to be there to help you. Fortunately for you in the USA. You do not suffer the restrictions we do in Defenseless Canada.
I learned one thing years ago after a late night attack when I was getting off work and had no weapon because concealed firearms weren't legal: I'd rather have the firearm, save my own life, then explain myself at the police station, than to follow the rules, which the criminals don't, and end up dead on a slab in the morgue. Just a thought.
@@teresahasopinions2329 You're absolutely right. I have heard people say, "it's better to be tried by twelve than be carried by six." Do what you have to do.
As a 🇨🇦 I wish we could open carry. I will follow the our law as a gun owner. There are other excellent alternatives as you point out. Sadly, even our right to defend ourselves in any way under any circumstances is now being questioned. That is when I will disobey the law. No one has the authority to give or take the right to self/family/friend/neighbour defence form anyone. I was born with a survival/protective instinct. Defying that is defying God.
Mt first go'yo is Sabre pepper gel (which I consider superior to spray, as it is easier to aim & eliminates blow-back and area effect. I use a Grimburg Gavle LTL handgun (concealed) - actually in close quarters could still be lethal in certain situations - for more serious situaltions, and a concealed folding dagger for the final hold-out. All good in self-defense weapon hostile California.
I honestly don't know how people get through the day without a knife. I use it constantly to open boxes, cut string, open letters, etc. I don't carry a fixed blade, but I live in a state which has no prohibition on carrying an automatic knife. It's just easier to keep in my pocket. Of course I carry a pistol, usually a CZ 75 Compact 9mm. I haven't carried pepper spray, but your logic is sound and perhaps I may start to carry it. Good video.
Good points, thanks for sharing! Don´t forget wind when you have to use pepperspray outside. That can make your situation even worse.... Greetings from Germany
I carry lots of weapons, but let's not forget a super bright single mode forward switch flashlight. Your opponent can't fight if he is blinded. A quick flash can give you the time to escape or deliver a devastating blow.
I agree one hundred percent with you sir. I do carry two knives that can be used for defence, a fixed blade and folder with a lockblade. I dont carry pepper spray, but I think you are right there as well. I am getting long in the tooth, and even though I know I can handle myself in a fight, my age counts against me.
I have been blessed becuase I am right handed but left eye dominant. That means I shoot left handed but fight otherwise right handed. In being armed in an auto it is better form me to carry to shoot right handed but still using my left eye to aim, at point blank range which is often the case in a car aiming is not import. As a former security guard I have TWICE deployed pepper spray of VERY SIGNIFICANT strength that was ignored as some people are immune once by a sister officer and another time by a perp who just danced right past me barely sparing me a glance.

I agree with Steve's comments below. I would add the "self defense" cane such as a Canemaster cane with appropriate training. I would list "tools' as follows: 1. firearm 2. Appropriate cane with training 3. Knife(s) 4. pepper spray-which I don't carry but use to when cycling-great on dogs! It may take 2 seconds to draw from concealment and fire or employ a knife. I got the hickory cane in my hand and can "whack" someone in less than a second. If I still need a firearm this gives me time to get it operating. I'm old and beat-up and can use the cane without using deadly force or with deadly force as necessary. Even if "justified" in using deadly force it doesn't mean you should-situational dependent. I have become a strong believer in the power of the cane with proper training and appropriate cane. I can't walk about with a gun or knife in my hand without getting shot or arrested. I carry the cane everywhere.
Hi Daniel, thank you for all the great information that you provide. I live in Illinois and carry the same items as you. I also carry a small high intensity flashlight. It is very useful and I use it all the time. Luckily I have been able to avoid or withdraw from hostile situations but it’s very important to always be prepared. I almost had to use pepper spray on a dog but that’s the closest I’ve come to using it.
What’s your favorite brand pepper spray ? Do you like the gel or the spray? I carry the Sabre gel kinda when I’m out and about but it’s only good for a certain amount of time
All of those are illegal to carry here in the UK. In fact it's illegal to carry ANYTHING that you intend to use as a self defence weapon. However it is legal for me to carry a knife with a non locking blade under 3 inches in length. As long as it's not intended to be used for self defence. It's also legal for me to carry a large fixed blade knife if I have a legitimate reason (filleting knife while fishing on the beach for example). As long as it's not intended to be used for self protection. I can also purchase and own an AR15 as long as I have a valid firearms certificate and the gun is stored in a secure location (the police will inspect the storage and interview you before issuing the certificate) But I'm not allowed to use it for self protection. Oh and pepper spray is classed as a firearm. I'm not kidding!
Very on point self-defense carry and P.O.C I always always carry one knuckle tool alongside my knife and mace when I'm going to work or on a trip. Same purpose I have carried my firearm, and I seriously didn't see why carry it out off work? But at times, I still will carry it out of work depending where I'm going and for what.
I carry the same EDC. Doing so gives you an expansive toolbox of options for most situations. On the pepper spray, I worked in the Texas prison system for nearly 30 years. Criminals can and do build up tolerance to lower grade pepper sprays, as well as CS and CN. Go with proven brands like FOX Labs, and Saber.
This is just for training purposes seventh only since I do train. The ability to take another person’s weapon away and use it on them. It’s something an a silent won’t think of. That’s along with the items that you talked about which I think is very good .
Spyderco Matriarch is a great blade, but you will also need to carry a utility knife as it has one purpose. Surefire E2D Defender flashlight or equivalent is essential for places you can't have weapons like on airplanes. I was attacked in a nightclub, ended up in a choke hold by a drunk showing off to his friends. I gave him 2 seconds to "win" and let go, but instead he started squeezing harder. That was a no-go so I grabbed the defender carried appendix and jammed the sharp strike bezel into his wrist and twisted, cutting him down to the bone. He let go instantly while screaming that I had a knife. Security grabbed me and pulled me aside shouting where is the knife. I said knife? All I have is a flashlight. They were perplexed and let me go before trowing the attacker and his friends out. I had to go wash the blood off my hands and the flashlight.
A good addition to the said items is an orange Fox 40 classic whistle. I, or the person with me, can use it to gain the attention of the public. 115db is LOUD.
My brother I haven't yet to understand how you and me think 100% alike that's what turned me on to your videos when I watched one of your videos and I saw you training with saps and blackjacks which are weapons have been training with for years and training others with and then I started watching the rest of your videos and your mindset and mine are 100% alike. I too carry pepper spray along with other items including a firearm and the blade I prefer is push daggers but I do carry other types of blades as well but my everyday carry includes a firearm or two and a blade and pepper spray and I also carry a SAP on me as well so I always mix it up each day is a little different. I was in the restaurant business for many years I grew up in it and we had drunks coming in there all the time and then we had vagrants that would sleep out in my trash cans and I had to go back there numerous amounts of times and they are not armed with guns but they do carry sharp objects such as screwdrivers, ice picks and also pieces of glass. So I've been in situations where I had to pepper spray some of them when being outnumbered or when I seen them going in to their pockets, I didn't wait for them to pull anything out once I saw them reach into their pockets I just went ahead and pepper sprayed them and they either went to the ground apologizing and then left or they'd turn and run covering their eyes and many times they tripped over themselves because they couldn't see. Bottom line is they never came back and after that I put a fence around my trash cans with a lock on it. And like you said there's those times when you do not want to shoot somebody because they're either a vagrant or a drunk and they are not armed with a gun but they may be armed with a sharp object or with nothing but they want to hurt you physically with their hands and you don't want to shoot them, so the next alternative is either some pepper spray, blackjack / Sap or ASP baton. I also have used tear gas and mace back in the 90s and that is effective as well. I've also used stun guns as well. Being in the bar and restaurant business non-lethal weapons are a must. Thanks for sharing my friend and be safe.
Hi agree with all your points!!! But what if I'm in a situation where I can't bring one of three you listed? For example, travelling overseas. If running is not an option, what unarmed combat style do you prefer? I heard that striking is better than grappling, but do you have any insight on what practical skill to learn in that scenario?? Thank you! 🥰
My recommendation is learn Parkour. No one can hurt you if they can't catch you 😂jokes aside, I'd say learn kickboxing, or just train MMA to learn a mix of striking and grappling. Grappling is extremely effective in a 1 on 1 scenario, especially if your opponent isn't a trained grappler. But if there's more than one opponent, the last place you want to be is on the ground. If you can't run for whatever reason, it's better to know how to stand and fight.
@@JR41N3 Thanks for the reply!! Yeah true running shoes is the most important, but who knows how committed people are! Been to kickboxing classes, but I found the coach to be under-skilled. Currently I'm training on my own, I know it isn't ideal, but better than not training at all hahaha🤣
Great info and appreciate the insight. I now use a bellyband holster to carry my Shield plus with 15 round mag, extra 15 round mag, pepper spray, flashlight, and a knife in my pocket.
As my judo coach used to say - the best self-defense is quick feet, but if that doesn't help and a fight is inevitable, attack first and so the opponent doesn't get up anymore.
A 10,000 lumin tactical flashlight, walking at night on medium brightness, switching to max if someone approaches and blinding them temporarily while I run away. If it turns out to be a false alarm no serious harm done.
Just a few hints for those states/countries that are a little more "restrictive" in what you can have in your vehicle or on your person. I'd suggest a baseball bat (with glove) to make it look good, Lug nut wrench or large socket wrench are always good choices. Also a 1 inch hex nut with a slip cord will do wonders in hand to hand.
My daily carry big 3 are knife, light, and gun. I did carry pepper spray for years but a defensive shooting trainer (who happened to be an attorney also) convinced me otherwise. He said a defensive shooting may be met with lawsuits with the reasoning that non-lethal was available to the shooter instead of the gun.
For me, every day: 1) gun with night sights and a light 2) benchmade Soc-p knife 3) knuckle-duster 4) shivworks punch dagger or clinch pick *Bonus* A quality made Sap
Appreciate the review, but none of these options are available in the UK. The best option I can suggest is some hand to hand combat training such as Krav maga ( but this has to be practised continuously to be effective).
My 3 are gun, knife, and walking stick. This stick can be used as a deterrent in several different ways. I consider it a non-lethal weapon. But since you mentioned pepper spray. I'll take a look at that again. I went against using pepper spray do to you have to be down wind when spraying it. And it has an expiration date on it. If I remember right. For the last two years I have been practicing using my walking stick on dumb Bob. He's just a torso with a head no arms and no legs. I'm no world champion but I confident enough. I can create distance between me and the problem I may be having with someone. So I can get away. Or draw another weapon if need be. Life is good thanks for the video.
@BinkyTheElf1 you definitely don't want the wind in your face. When you go to spray. And here in Kansas, the wind can change directions in the blink of an eye.
My px4storm , my buck 105 and my third I just found out is illegal in most states . Didnt know anything about it being illegal for 30 plus years of carrying in more than 1 country . I also have a buck 110 in my pocket most days .
Carry Cash to buy someone off a $100 bill $50 or even $20 is often able to defuse a situation. Much cheaper than a lawyer. Buying goodwill is under rated. Walking away scot free is nice. Plus if you do go to court it looks good that you offered someone money. "I tried everything"
That's for the head's up. Could you give us your address? I and a hundred of my friends would like to come knocking, each expecting that $100 bill. And I might add that NYC and SF have already adopted similar to your policy, setting the hand-over without prosecution at a much higher $1000. Crime there has exploded. Your idea doesn't work.
Just a hint if pepper spray is illegal in your area. Get a small metal tin with a hinged lid that closes tightly, a mint container works well. Fill it with finely ground black and cayenne pepper and keep it in your pocket. If needed you pop the lid and either flip it at the person or dump some in your hand and throw it. Works REALLY well and is not as easily seen as a canister of spray. My EDC items are a Cold Steel polypropylene escrima stick converted to a cane with a rubber tip and rubber hand grip, an easy opening tactical folder/fixed bladed karambit or tanto and garlic/cayenne pepper spray or the canned pepper mixture.
For me: . Handgun (S&W M&P Bodyguard .38) . Fixed Blade Knife (Skallywag Tactical MDV+1) . Victorinox Spartan If I'm in a place where guns aren't allowed, I carry Plastic knuckles from No metal Knucks with me. I really don't want to use a Knife on a Dog, but I will if absolutely necessary.
I would suggest that an attitude of confidence, not an ego thing, but an assuredness, makes you look like someone to pass on for someone looking to do harm to someone. Am I wrong?

I want to get a baton too, but a good one is $30 bucks plus s&h. 🙏
@@Blackdog57A flash bang flashlight is a baton and light in one.
As you know, having that baton out before these dogs even come close is a good deterrent. They know what it means. Appearing to bend down for a rock, even if one isn't available has also worked for me on some occasions.
@@Blackdog57 Mine was around $50 with shipping. You could pay triple that for an Asp brand...
@howard4tex wow, I had no idea, I thought the ones on Blue Steel were expensive.
@@bluest1524I think he meant going outside after sunset…😂
@SteveAubrey1762. Please do not swing sticks at dogs. I doubt you will ever make contact with them and I doubt you will ever need to. "Barking dogs don't bite." Just breathe, back off, and walk away. (Don't run.)

You are a great voice for this subject. Always calm, reasonable, and thoughtful. Keep ‘em coming
Thank you!
I'd like to see you test different pepper sprays. 😊
Say, that's a nice fixed blade sir!! Yeah, I could see this guy talking to his attacker in his calm voice while fighting saying something like, "you have made me mad by making me have to destroy you" LOL
As someone on another channel once said: "In order for something to be considered self defense, you can't be the reason it happened." 😅
As a retired Corrections Officer I concur on OC (pepper spray). I have used it many times and can 100% recommend it in stopping an aggressors momentum.
You haven't met someone that can tank it yet. You should know better than to assume

What grabbers need to realize, is that the good guy regards his weapon as a means of saving lives, not ruining them.
I prefer pepper gel, it's more likely to stick on people. Thanks for sharing! 😊

Pepper gel spray is the alternative. More accurate and not as likely to blow back.
@@lisajusti9907 good point, very true.
I'm sorry that happened to you! Yeah, I recommend gel spray too.
@@kcm4511 thank you! It was Frankfurt in the 90's and Turkish gangs were renowned for violence (more than today), especially in Frankfurt.
Pepper gel is the way to go. Travels farther too.
You need to vote for freedom.
Cane Masters is a good brand. Like anything worth the money, they start at about $165
@@bigcat618 Good info. Out of my budget level, unfortunately. Mine was free, minus my work.
Stay safe

True. My favorite unweapons, metal ball point pens, large and small flashlights.
Love that you carry concealed. If I wear long pants I carry my ruger lcp-max in.380 as a backup.

I'm in the UK, none of these are legally allowed 😒
Hoo Rah!

Your top objectives should always be escape and evasion. This is the mindset which will keep you out of the slammer.
Trust me, I’d rather not be in any situations, but I’m gonna be prepared for all
In my area, carrying a fixed blade really seems like overkill, and I'm not sure if it's even legal.
Carry revolver and blade. Also (at night) I carry a high power flashlight.
My first self defense tool. Is situational awareness. 2 my .45. 3 my fixed blade knife.
I find that pulling the pin on a hand grenade breaks the party up pretty fast.😮
My father and uncle Ralph did 💩 like that I'll the time! They used M84s, it was the most effective way to get the bikers to leave..........

Thank you for your advice
I carry lots of weapons, but let's not forget a super bright single mode forward switch flashlight. Your opponent can't fight if he is blinded. A quick flash can give you the time to escape or deliver a devastating blow.
I agree one hundred percent with you sir. I do carry two knives that can be used for defence, a fixed blade and folder with a lockblade. I dont carry pepper spray, but I think you are right there as well. I am getting long in the tooth, and even though I know I can handle myself in a fight, my age counts against me.
Thanks man keep up the good work and videos and I carry those 3 gadgets everyday and every need to stay protected

Great choices. Covers you from dangerous drunk to active shooter.
Great advice, awareness and don’t look for trouble. Keep up these videos, thank you.
I agree with Steve's comments below. I would add the "self defense" cane such as a Canemaster cane with appropriate training. I would list "tools' as follows:
1. firearm
2. Appropriate cane with training
3. Knife(s)
4. pepper spray-which I don't carry but use to when cycling-great on dogs!
Thanks for the wisdom.
Only item I would add is a hand held tact style flashlight. So 4 items total.
Good job, Thank you!
Salute awesome choices keep up the great work 👍
Hi Daniel, thank you for all the great information that you provide.
I carry the Sabre gel kinda when I’m out and about but it’s only good for a certain amount of time
I use police Magnum spray 👍
Where did you get that knife and holster ?
Sweet! I already carry all three of these items!
Springfield XDs 45acp, Mora knife or Spyderco endura, 5ft laminated wood walking stick.
Another thoughtful video, keep up the good work! Thanks!
Thank you for sharing as well, my friend!
Very good instructional video. You did everything correct. Thank you. Every single video is great.
What do you think about a blackjack??

Thanks for the tips 👍 I like the pepper spray suggestion. I try to mind my own business but sometimes...
As my judo coach used to say - the best self-defense is quick feet, but if that doesn't help and a fight is inevitable, attack first and so the opponent doesn't get up anymore.
Thanks for another OUTSTANDING VIDEO. I carry a firearm, mutiple blades, pepper spray, and a kubaton.
Add a Gatling and a couple of grenades... 😅😅😅
A 10,000 lumin tactical flashlight, walking at night on medium brightness, switching to max if someone approaches and blinding them temporarily while I run away. If it turns out to be a false alarm no serious harm done.
my Mind is my tool
Well it is certain you are a tool.🤗😉🤗 Just joking of course. 😁
Best weapon of all.
For me, every day:
1) gun with night sights and a light
2) benchmade Soc-p knife
3) knuckle-duster
4) shivworks punch dagger or clinch pick
*Bonus* A quality made Sap
Excellent, well presented. I would ad Kimber Guardian II or III...it has some situational advantages over spray...
I think you meant upwind?
@BinkyTheElf1 you definitely don't want the wind in your face. When you go to spray. And here in Kansas, the wind can change directions in the blink of an eye.
Good choices and logic. I don't carry pepper spray, but a high intensity flashlight for my third item.
My mother, a former police officer, keeps icepicks near for defense. Also, you can carry a ballpeen hammer with a belt loop. Perfectly legal.
My only rule and regulation "shall not be infringed"
Nec Aspera Terrent
I highly recommend pepper spray from fox labs.
I'm so glad you do this. I was raised with it, but it's valuable info for everyone!
Very good, and sound video. Thanks!
For me:
. Handgun (S&W M&P Bodyguard .38)
. Fixed Blade Knife (Skallywag Tactical MDV+1)
. Victorinox Spartan
If I'm in a place where guns aren't allowed, I carry Plastic knuckles from No metal Knucks with me. I really don't want to use a Knife on a Dog, but I will if absolutely necessary.
Your videos are very informative, I’m so glad I stumbled upon your channel. Thank you.
Pistol,knife and flashlight 👍🏻🫡
I would suggest that an attitude of confidence, not an ego thing, but an assuredness, makes you look like someone to pass on for someone looking to do harm to someone. Am I wrong?
You are exactly correct . Also, a loud, "Back off ! " can have the desired effect. The intended victim takes charge of the situation.
And... A Powerful & solid flashlight, i carry a Streamlight ProTac 1l1aa, small, lightweith and the exactly lumens for the every day! Excellent recomendation bro!
Thank you!
Thank you for speaking responsibly.
ALWAYS a knife! and OC Spray Coldsteel baton in the truck and at the front door. Guns in the home
Glock 23, a folding knife & sometimes a tactical light with the strike bezel. Should carry the light at all times, really.
