I just found your retro odyssey series and binged it all in a few days. Thanks for making these videos. Your vibe is awesome and I can't wait for the next one to drop.
I can't believe the amount of effort put into this video, this is leaps and bounds more aesthetically pleasing and in depth than some channels with 1M+ subscribers. Amazing work!
I’m sure making these videos takes a while, but don’t ever get discouraged, you make some of THE best videos ever. The calm demeanor, the pacing for the review, the random stuff you include (video and audio) even the choices of games, just such a vibe. You’re amazing and I can’t wait for your next one!
I always look forward to uploads from this channel. While part of me is excited for you to eventually cover games from newer consoles, I would enjoy hearing you break down NES games I've never heard of forever.
I saw this pop up in my notifications and wanted to wait until I was ready to sit down and give it my undivided attention. The intro with you flipping around doing samurai stuff with the katana, followed by you sitting in the grass narrating in Japanese as if all of this is totally normal for a review is amazing. It felt like a fever dream. Your vibe, presentation and creativity continues to impress and I might have to see about hunting this game down!
Legit was just thinking I was missing some incredible coverage of Famicom titles that flew under the radar. Incredible work as always and absolutely adore all the hard work you put into it.
Great video review and really neat editing work! I have a copy of this game but never got around to playing it on the famicom, after watching this i totally gotta try it.
The production value on this one is INSANE and well worth the wait!! You've outdone yourself. And you wrapped it up so nicely, too. The intro had me smiling because it felt like an enjoyable, silly start to the review, but the footage of you at the end somehow made it more meaningful and nice. A good wrap for the review which was just as good. Enthusiastic, genuine, not afraid to word out what you think is lame about the game, but always casual, relaxed, without gimmicks. So, as always, good review! I feel like I said it before but the fact that it comes to mind again just speaks for the fact: You've come a long with these and it's fun to keep watching! Also, I think I might check this game out, too. 3D-dungeon crawling is not my favorite and it might be an extra annoyance in this game, but the rest sounds great.
I remember hearing about that boxart from Famidaily and it is so cool to see it in action, and man what a fun intro to the video!! This is one I still have yet to finish, I really love the combat and general flow of the game with the different weapons, but man, like you said, the dungeons are just a slog and really drag the game down for me too. With that being said, it's still a pretty awesome little game from what I've played of it, I might pick it back up and finish it now after watching this because I was super close to the end. Fabulous video as always, they seriously just keep getting better!!
Wow man that intro was amazing! I love the flipping. I was like how did you film that and then you showed it at the end. Totally sick!!! And thanks for the shout out at the end. Great video!!! I've got to play this game and start making some videos again.
Amazing production value and quality review, as always. Loved that opening sequence and seeing the behind the scenes at the end was such a treat (especially seeing lil' shredder practicing karate haha) I watch your videos on repeat while working on my lil indie ttrpg projects and just wanted to say thank you for all the entertainment, you rule.
Other YTer intros: "Only 0.1% of you are subbed so smash that sub and bell and like and here's my sponsor!" This guy's intro: "Here's a deleted scene from One Piece." Incredible!
My friend. Your intro game is better than anyone else in the business and its not even close. It was a long wait for a video that was worth 2 times the wait.
That intro was amazing! Subbed It's funny, I first heard of GFD through GaMetal's Nestalgia VI, a medley of NES covers, which contained his take on the Ryukotsuki Battle Theme (and sounds AMAZING!) and that cover blew me away enough to give the game a try. I'm not very good at it (I don't do platformers well, it's a known skill issue of mine) but that soundtrack as a whole slaps. I noticed the Getsu Fuma card in the intro, but fun fact for you, Ryukotsuki's final form also has a Yugioh card called Ryu Kokki (probably a bad translation issue when it came to the states) which has an effect that automatically destroys Warriors and Spellcasters it battles after combat. If somehow you gave both Getsu Fuma and Ryu Kokki battle immunity, they'd destroy each other anyway.
One thing I really appreciate about your videos is the level of presentation and editing that go above and beyond. I did video editing in college and seeing all the cuts and effects... I salute you.
Wow. This episode was wild with the special effects and general production value. Congratulations. Every time I see a new video from you I just gotta smile and watch it. Thank you.
This is a game i have a lot of fond memories with, so I particularly enjoyed watching and reminicing. The shots and lighting on these videos are always so good and you communicate so well that you had a lot of fun making it. There is a brief aside where you talk about your expectations vs your realizations and I really liked that. If there's one thing i personally would want to see for the next one is you leaning more into this type of story telling, your personal experience with the game beyond a mechanics/stage/story overview. I think it's the more intimate parts of these types of videos that elevate and stay with the viewer (especially those who are unfamiliar with the topic youre talking about). keep HPRshredding.
Thank you so much, man. I really appreciate it. I definitely plan to move things more in that direction little by little. I understand some of the overview stuff can get a little boring and tedious, but I'm working on changing it incrementally. For example, in this episode, I did not detail every single enemy and their moves lmao. Always tempting. I add the chapters so people can skip to what they want. For this episode I was dealing with writer's block (or youtuber's block) for about a month, so I'm just happy I was able to finally get something out.
sometimes a random video pops up on my timeline and I say to myself "wow, this is a great video, this dude must have like 100k followers" and then I look up and im shocked. You earned a sub my dude. Skies the limit and rooting for you.
Your content really is of high enough quality that I think you deserve a million subs mininum. You don't cover only commonly known games that everyone else talks about, which I really appreciate. Getsufuuma den isn't exactly an obscure title for those who collect famicom, but its a breath of fresh air to hear someone talk about it for almost 50 minutes with this much detail and research backing it. Whether this channel is a personal project for you, or you want it to go to higher places, I truly hope you keep it up. One day I would love to see some coverage of Kiki Kaikai.
Incredible film, beautiful editing, wonderful work, I know it took a while, I appreciate it as an editor myself. Great thoughts on a hidden gem. I loved the intro, I laughed too. You’re a genuine person.
7:51 Bro actually made Comic Sans aesthetic Also I'm going to start saying "Narrow open world" to describe some of these games now. I always wished there was a word for these really ambitious older games and now there is lol. Also also, I love that you are correlating elements from Gfd to other games to give us an idea of how this game plays! It has a lot of elements that I love! This was a real treat to watch and well worth the wait!
Dude, this is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on RUclips. It’s over the top good. It’s clear how much love and care you put into it. Excellent work, man.
I understand the presentation of this game being a bit hit and miss for people but for me the over the top, caustic colors really sell the nightmarish environment. That along with having a decorative skeleton density that's pretty exceptional, even for a famicom game, make Getsu Fuuma Den's whole visual style one of my favorites among relatively early games for the console. Another really cool game that I'm glad you decided to include in this series.
I found the intro to go on a bit too long, but it was still pretty badass. Aside from that, what an incredible breakdown of a game I haven't heard about since Chrontendo covered it back in 2009.
The grind is real. Accumulating experience. I knew you would level up for the next drop, but god dang how did you level up 30 levels? Cheers!!!! btw . . so comfortable . . .
The final boss is not actually a sprite. He is a part of the background element. It’s how programmers on the NES got around the sprite limitations of the system.
Yep. I think some of the coolest examples of the approach on NES are in Isolated Warrior. They not only have giant bosses that look cool using animated background tiles, but also use some cool line scrolling effects to make them even more convincing, and the color use makes a couple of them look like early Turbografx games.
Dude that intro was killer, and while I had heard of this game, I had NO idea it was of this much quality. For a Famicom/NES game, it seems like one that should be in the Top 20 for the system at the very least.
Thanks, man! I really appreciate it! I'm unqualified to place a top 20 game as I've only played basically what I've covered so far on the channel, but it's in the top half of what I've played so far for sure.
Narrow open world=labyrinth like I think that's where your head is on that yeah? Amazing video I had to rewatch the intro before i continued! Getsu is a fun game that kinda snuck by and I wouldn't have heard about it if they hadn't shouted out the game by having fuuma be playable in a later castlevania game. Love the footage of Sensei Morris there at the end!
That intro was amazing Shredder, tbh I think the West did get a version of this game in spirit for the NES. That game's name is The Lone Ranger. No, I'm not kidding. It even has the FPS dungeon crawling except with zapper gameplay. It's one of my all-time favorites.
This is an incredible 'discovery', presented extremely well. Had this game been released in the US (assuming it had the same amazing artwork - which would have most likely NOT been the case) I feel like this would have had a huge impact on subsequent games and inspired future developers.
Whoa Nelly , that's high production quality for less than 10k subbies ! In early for the in-joke clout later. Holy Moly this guy mashes fun stuff to watch !
Im 43 I have been playing the NES my whole like and it never fails no matter how much i research or play in emulators there is always a Famicom or NES game that comes along I have never heard of. Its the gift that keeps giving
Damn, dude. Incredible production value and video graphics! The game looks amazing too. Never played it but it looks like all of my favorite Konami games rolled into one.
Excellent vid as always. So glad you enjoyed this one. I tackled Fuuma Den back in 2021 and the entire time it just reminded me of the original TMNT NES game. Like if you took Leonardo and placed him in hell.
You gotta set the shutter speed on your camera to match the hertz of the screen itself. 60hz needs to be shot with a shutter speed of 60 for example. And since the screen itself is typically curved, you have to be mindful of the grill of the screen, so it's going to only need to have a small potion actually in focus. Otherwise things can get wonky. They are very difficult to capture well on camera tbh.
The audacity behind that opening sequence. I'm in awe.

Glad you've enjoyed them and I appreciate the comment!
🤯 That intro!! 🤯🤯
🥵That 3d map tilt! 🥵🥵🥵
Awesome to finally get to see it, turned out great!
Get a haircut

THE RETURN OF THE KING
I always look forward to uploads from this channel. While part of me is excited for you to eventually cover games from newer consoles, I would enjoy hearing you break down NES games I've never heard of forever.
Always amazed to see other creators watching smaller channels like these
Love to see support from the man the myth the legend himself cybershell

Yeah this is a good channel, man Cybershell is watching your stuff you gotta be doing something right
@@spacepope8495 this is the dream
This game looks RIGHT up my alley!! It's crazy how much we westerners missed out on.
This guy totally Getsu the Fumma Den amirite
Maybe the real Getsu was the Fuuma Den made along the way
The extra time and care taken certainly showed in this one. Simply an outstanding effort. Surabashii!
Thank you, Tom!

production quality is off the charts! great video - I really gotta finish this game now :D
Came here to say it, and you beat me to it. This was awesome!
Super appreciate it, man! Very glad you enjoyed the video!
That intro... Now I understand why this video took so long, worth the wait! :D
One of the absolute best creators on RUclips.
Your work is delightful! Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you for checking it out!
This game looks fun. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for making them. Hope you're well.
Dude, I loved the game and your video, what an intro!!!
1:00 hold up, the box is LENTICULAR?? Thats so cool!! 🤩🤩
Anyone reading this comment should check out "Tappers" on Danny Devoid's channel
100/100 because 10/10 isn't giving you enough credit for the quality of this video.

Man this video was great. Lot of cool effects, Very entertaining. Seeing that sponge bob on that raft was crazy hahaha.
The raft was the funniest part for me to make lol. Glad you enjoyed it, man! Thanks for the comments!
This is the NES Onimusha. Cool.
Dude, this is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on RUclips. It’s over the top good. It’s clear how much love and care you put into it. Excellent work, man.
Sometimes the algo sends me to a channel that delivers things I didn't even know I wanted. I greatly enjoyed this video. Subbed.

I agree. If the wild color design of famicom titles fits anywhere, it's youkai themed worlds.
Beautiful! Yet again! Thank you

nice production value on this vid! (Btw- Zelda was mentioned as an influence on Castlevania SOTN) seems a lot like Adventure of Link
Incredible work once again! The structure, pacing, and writing of your videos just keeps getting better! Keep it up!!!
legendary channel status HPRshredder! I've been falling in love binging the channel.
LAYLA REFERENCE SPOTTED
love the editing here man, been watching since that Layla video came out
guys wake up new hprshredder video dropped 🎉

Well worth the wait, and beautiful. Thank you for this, and that stache! You've entered Godmode with this one.
Glad you enjoyed
I was not Expecting that intro lol
A god dang master piece 2 and half minutes in. The music coming in (and your mustache) gave me chills

Appreciate it, man
Im 43 I have been playing the NES my whole like and it never fails no matter how much i research or play in emulators there is always a Famicom or NES game that comes along I have never heard of. Its the gift that keeps giving
this video got me on ZEN mode. loving the visuals and narrative style 🔥🫡
Loved the intro to this video, got a good laugh out of me. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, man! Glad you enjoyed it!
that intro was AMAZING
It wasnt even over when I commented this DAAAAMN
He’s back!! Let’s goooooo!🤘🏼🔥👾
Bruh actually went out and touch grass to make this video. Subscribed
he made the ultimate sacrifice
oh we’re SO back baby
ok the effects are on another LEVEL
this is definitely the most Japanese HPR video
Honestly though, that intro was fucking nuts dude! One of your best videos to date, you're kicken ass brother!
Thanks Gouki
That intro was WILD
Another great video about a golden age Konami classics :)
YES!! I have actually been waiting for this video before I start playing the game; THANK YOU! Absolutely can’t wait to watch this
Impeccable as always friend!
Still need to watch the rest but that intro!!! Welcome back!!
Gave a like straight away for the editing.
You have a Game Center CX shirt!!!!!! instant like
Ahhhh can't wait for my lunch break to watch this
Peak opening! Banger after banger! 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks so much, Sho!!!
I took edibles before I watched this and was in no way expecting this intro.
just gonna lay back and smoke this new HPR video for over forty seven minutes
It has a bit of Cosmo Police Galivan thing about it too
Love the visuals! Caught my eye when it autoplayed because ive been trying to record my CRT tv screen. Any tips?
You gotta set the shutter speed on your camera to match the hertz of the screen itself. 60hz needs to be shot with a shutter speed of 60 for example. And since the screen itself is typically curved, you have to be mindful of the grill of the screen, so it's going to only need to have a small potion actually in focus. Otherwise things can get wonky. They are very difficult to capture well on camera tbh.
Subbed for the intro alone! 😊
19:10 the sword animation is very similar to Leonardo's attack in tmnt for the nes.
Konami made both so it makes sense.
Also that intro was 👌
That intro was sick!
Thanks, man!!
* references Joji’s medicine for no reason * yeah I’m subscribing just for that.
