    Maybe it’s not that life without work is too boring for him. He announces retirement. He has time to experience the mundanity of life. All the little things that we take for granted. He’s filled with an overwhelming appreciation for living that he feels he must express. He must convey the joy of living. It’s why the final message of most of his films is “live.” There’s beauty in living we all must appreciate. This animation conveys that beautifully. Genuinely makes me tear up being a creative myself.

      Takahata mentored Miyazaki well, but alas Miyazaki has proven to be a terrible mentor.
      The biggest problem of him not being able to retire is the lack of talent that could inherit the mastery of these two masters.
      Ironically I think Hosoda is the closest inheritor to Ghibli's masters, and Miyazaki rejected him telling him that his talents would be wasted in Ghibli, and that he has better places to shine. Miyazaki was probably right, but I can't help imagine how bright Ghibli's future would have been under Hosoda's direction.

    • @8thDoctor
      @8thDoctor 4 дня назад +23

      @@aohige for better and worse, Miyazaki has always been consummate artist and a pessimist. He just doesn't see Ghibli as much more than an outlet for his art rather than the animation studio and home for talent it could be. Tons of great artists have passed through their doors to work on a Miyazaki or Takahata film, few have gotten the chance to direct and even fewer the chance to do it twice. IMO they likely just never got over Kondo's untimely death, he was their chosen and groomed successor.
      If they'd kept Hosoda and Yonebayashi around their future would be bright, even Goro has shown great talent when he's doing his own little realistic films, that's enough talent in disparate genres to keep the studio afloat for another 30 years.

    • @0ia
      @0ia 3 дня назад +1

      @pofficial3345 It is very much related. This film is about not changing. This is pivotal to whether he changed, even for a bit.
      In Miyazaki and Isao Takahata's filmmaking, this would have been a mistake. To them, it must be real.
      Miyazaki was torn up that he made the soil in My Neighbor Totoro brown instead of red, and therefore in an early showing failed to connect with a fellow director who grew up in the japanese countryside.
      When Miyazaki himself "watches" movies, he will go into the theater when it is half-way done, observe for moments, then say, "I did not know they wore their armor like that" and go to the next movie. He would say he watched five movies in a day like this.
      This I know from watching dozens of hours of documentaries and reading the book.
      To me, I wasn't looking at Miyazaki. I was looking at students who had their own idea about who he was, which can weaken your experience of a film based on a real person you know about.
      It's only because Miyazaki draws what's real that I was able to get my father into it, because he trusted the details after seeing the process in a documentary.
      Geniuses at their highest level of craft think about different things than you and I, and we only feel the *effect* of these thoughts in their movies, while we can hardly know it.

    • @pofficial3345
      @pofficial3345 3 дня назад +1

      @@0ia i'm saying it's kinda irrelevant because this specific instance is not the main goal of the video. Sure, it's wrong bcs miyazaki is like this and that, but that's not the focus. 彼らは貶められていた日本のアニメの地位を、世界で不動のものにしました。宮崎駿氏は一度引退を宣言しましたが、彼のアニメからの引退は人生の引退と同義でした。復活を遂げてくれた宮崎氏ですが、いつかは彼も高畑勲氏と同様、生命からの引退の日を迎えるでしょう。その日まで宮崎氏には、頑張ってアニメに関わり続けてほしいです。宮崎駿氏は日本にとって、アニメの神様です。

    Very wholesome video🫶🏿. I love how he has announced his retirement only to come back so many times over the last two decades haha🫶🏿! I hope one day if he does truly retire he takes a long rest and truly enjoys himself and relaxes🫶🏿. I will always love and adore Hayao Miyazaki🫶🏿, he was my introduction to anime and I will always cherish my memories of watching his work both in the comfort of my home and in theaters ever since my very early childhood when I was 2 in 2002🫶🏿.

    This is kind of the most ideal way of life for an artist. One day it will be sad it would be his last but , maybe it helps to think, just anytime he wanted to, he simply just retires .😊 what a great life for an artist . Work hard to make beautiful things and keep saying fuck it I’m retiring . Whenever x3 beautiful

    What a beautiful ode to a beloved and human artist. Thank you for expressing such great joy! The caticature of Suzuki is adorable too, it's not often we see other members of Ghibli portrayed by their fans with the love we give (deservedly!) to miyazaki himself. We're so truly lucky to live in the same world as such an individual creative force.
