I think perhaps because asian cultures are so contact averse when the forced intimacy of filming an amorous relationship break down barriers and make the actors especially close if the get along. This establishes a different deeper friendship from knowing eachother wii all the barriers down. Not always romantic love but most certainly deep and meaningfull human intimacy.
