At this point she still had no idea how great she was. Man, up at Eric’s is the ONLY cassette I still have. (I have digital of course) but kept the original for nostalgia. Allison could have been one of the greatest blues singers in history with that power, instead she gave us a new blend, never seen before, and opened a whole world of blues greats to kids. The album is a classic and so is she. Yaz situations been stolen and sampled more than any other track in history. That’s a supreme honor.
I loved Yazoo for their contradiction...with Vince’s techno hooky pop, belies the message of the lyrics with Alisons soulful voice. Sounds cute, with a dark edge.
This album is amazing. I feel somehow it's not as well-known as it should be. It is a classic. These three songs, Midnight, In My Room, Only You are one of the best 15 minute stretches in any album ever.
ida given anything to be front row and feel her power❤....hearing her sing this song makes me feel more alive than anything on the current top 40 #waybeforeadele
These two musicians / artists were not thinking or even cared about what anyone or anybody thought about their image or music at the time. they were thinking what we thought about it in 2025. These tracks need to be remastered with today's musicians and technology and then in 40 years from now a new generation can enjoy the true craft of music theory, {side note} since I grew up in the middle of all this I'll tell you right now that this audience in the video is down right shocked and bewildered to be transported 35 years into the future while standing in the same place.
I met Vincent Clarke in Dallas and ask him where did Erasure come up with so many interesting musical concepts he replied "We steal them" true story...
Playing Upstairs at Erics in my darkened room, wondering where life was going in the early 80s. Strange how a song can take you back. I never meant you any harm CDF, I was just looking for a friend. God bless.
More authentic it couldn’t get ... video tape is grinding, because this beautiful song was played so often ... Kids, this was normal in our youth and this was good as it was ! Alison sings live on a tv broadcast! Brilliant as always! But what does Vince do? Photographing while synth is playing itself ? 😂
Upstairs at Eric's is still in my top 10 of records! Never sold mine, and can, and still do play it on my deck! Play's lovely on Sonos also, like it was made for the system! Quality! :-)
These two artists because that's what they deserve to be called collectively understood that they we're about 40 years ahead of the rest and in 2024 they are about onother 25 years ahead of the pack (example)them not giving a f about their image isn't a clue I don't know what is... Although Tate McCraes you broke me first has come close....
Kudos to the black chick with the high top fade! Only person dancing lol. Such a good performance, and the midi track is amazing! One of the few top of the pops era performances that was live.
I love CHVRCHES today and part of that, I'm realizing, is that I have always loved Vince Clarke's work from Depeche Mode to Yazoo to Erasure. But don't get me wrong, Alison Moyet is 50% of the power of Yazoo -- amazing team, loved them with passion in my emo years.
How did she turn into a woman without losing the voice? NOT being offensive, but look at her now? I'm a gay man, and could have sworn there was something up with Her....Now she has a daughter in a video...ok
upstairs at eric's ... lost count of the number of times i've owned, lost, sold, lent, borrowed and stole that bloody record
You can still find it downstairs at Eric's. ;D
Vinyl. Cassette. CD.
Still got my copy from 1982 😊
Lol I feel you

A perfect example of Alison's vocal range. And she was like 21 at the time.
A_M_A_Z_I_N_G!!!
My absolute favourite song of hers/Yazoo ❤
Just the best voice ever. And Vince made it even better. Also, RIP Maggie Roche.
"I should have thought about it before I did you wrong..."
Still gives me goosebumps
Lacey Cole me too.
Same ... the part at 3:35 just melts my heart... :)
What a voice. She means every note. Great. Absolutely mesmerizing. What a voice.
I loved Yazoo for their contradiction...with Vince’s techno hooky pop, belies the message of the lyrics with Alisons soulful voice. Sounds cute, with a dark edge.
Don*t be shy Alisson, You have one of most beautiful voices ever,,,,, Thank You!...

greg55666 I totally agree. Add Situation, Don’t Go, and Goodbye 70’s to that list!
Alison's voice is amazing, full of soulful passion. Oh the part at 3:35 just melts my heart... :)
Totally agree with Only You being an absolute classic. My favourite song by any artist, ever.
Damn straight, brother!
True, but I Before E Except After C is a real buzzkill.
Allison Moyet has a raw, bluesy contralto voice supreme. This brings back memories
Upstairs at Eric's is burned into my brain and soul. Introducing my own 14 year old to it now, and she's in love.
I love her so much
The audience stood there and not even knowing what they are witnessing.
Right?! Legends in the making. :)
Here's a recent live version...

Greatest love song ever
I have loved this girl all my life ....
I dont even care that she was flat the entire first verse...her singing makes my heart flutter.
Oh the part at 3:35 just melts my heart... :)
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Mouth and a mic and pure talent, not an autotune anywhere
Thank you for the share!!! Takes me back to HS and the years after..... The memories with my friend jamming to Yaz
Brutal Alison
La mejor VOZ de siempre
YAZOO genial
Wow , a powerful voice .
This was my song everytime I was heartbroken by a girl in the late 80s through 90s, then I played Crowds by Bauhaus to get back on track
Reminds me of high school..playing this cassette night after night cruising around looking for the house parties.great memories
Hands Down Favorite Song Of All Time.
This is such a bad ass song
ida given anything to be front row and feel her power❤....hearing her sing this song makes me feel more alive than anything on the current top 40

toujours aussi magique le couple Alison / Vince
, always so magical
Well done Alison and Vince. Still sounding class and may I say, well above the standards of most stuff out there today.
Best version raw

So amazing voice. My inspiration everyday!
Thank you for bring us this recording.
That voice though!
Quina veu! Sembla increïble com Alison Moyet fa anar la seva veu amunt i avall amb potència i xiuxiuejant alhora.
one of the 80 s best.hardest albulm to hold on to
Vince does like working with Divas in the best sense of the word💚
I saw them on this tour. Brilliant
I watched this when it was aired!! Always been a huge yazoo fan.. Dont think I've ever owned a car that hasn't had at least one yazoo cd in it!..lol
Awesome ❤
Brilliant vocals as always Miss moyet !
Awesome voice.
Very strong performance.
I met Vincent Clarke in Dallas and ask him where did Erasure come up with so many interesting musical concepts he replied "We steal them" true story...
Well, the entire pop song genre relies on just a few chords, so it's inevitable to steal it ;)
FANTASTIC!
Playing Upstairs at Erics in my darkened room, wondering where life was going in the early 80s. Strange how a song can take you back.
I never meant you any harm CDF, I was just looking for a friend.
God bless.

Eu amo essa música!
Me llevas a otro nivel
Wow thanks for that! What a great post! RileyEFuk, you are a great humanitarian.

Alison sings live on a tv broadcast! Brilliant as always! But what does Vince do? Photographing while synth is playing itself ? 😂
I did read around the time, that synth was rigged so that he controlled the slide show, to some extent ;)
I'm pretty sure that Adele is one of her biggest fans....just awesome live version..thnx
Magic!
Iconic!!!
Upstairs at Eric's is still in my top 10 of records! Never sold mine, and can, and still do play it on my deck! Play's lovely on Sonos also, like it was made for the system! Quality! :-)

Upstairs at eric`s es una joya de álbum, las composiciones de VClarke junto a la Increíble voz de AMoyet fueron una combinaciòn genial y elegante!

This sounds the same when you play this great track on a Crosley turntable..
can you please tell where was located the tube?
It was recorded in Tyne Tees Studio 5, in Newcastle.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_Centre,_Newcastle_upon_Tyne#Studios
Thank you very much Riley
man, Vince really bought out the bassline here
ahah so true ,poor bassline sound! revenge somewhere?
The audience is just like, "Wow, they suck live."
She's so convincing
Sinething wrong with the recording.
+Tess Willnotlistsurname Stuff transferred from VHS recordings made in the 80s don't tend to look so great.
Vince Clark does not play at all..Alison iz great
Vince sleeping
How did she turn into a woman without losing the voice? NOT being offensive, but look at her now? I'm a gay man, and could have sworn there was something up with Her....Now she has a daughter in a video...ok
she was always a woman. idiot.
That's an angel, as far as I'm concerned. Explains all the confusion. Probably undercover or something. LOL
