@ nikita jainth, If the machine sold on 1 Jan 2003, then compare the book value of machine as on same date (31 Dec. 2002 value)with selling price to find profit or loss on sale. Hope now it make sense.

on 1st April 2009, Taparia Ltd. purchased a second hand Machine for Rs 80,000 and spent Rs 20,000 on its cartage , repair and installation.The residual value at the end of it's expected useful life for 4 years is estimated at Rs40,000. On 30th Sep.2011 this machine is sold for Rs 50,000. Depreciation is according to straight line method
pass necessary journal entries and also prepare machinery account and depreciation account for the first 3 years assuming that the account are closed on 31st March each year
