Selim the first. Checked the Shias threat, and almost got Ismail 1 if the army didn’t mutiny after taking Tabriz. United the Sunni world. Broke the blockade the Portuguese imposed on the Red Sea and stopped their attacks into Arabia. Destroyed the dying Mamluk Sultanate. Barbarossa contacted him for taking Algeria into the Ottoman empire and Suleiman assured the deal later, and we all know what Barbarossa became. If he only had lived for more 5 years we would have seen the crescent in Rome, but this Allah’s wisdom and destiny for his servant Selim. Much love from Egypt to first Sultan Caliph of the Ottoman empire. May Allah forgive his sins and accept him into paradise. He doubled the territory of the Ottoman empire in the span of three years.

An empire without economy would fall no matter what. So we have an empire it will fall no matter what; either to the Ottomans or the Safavids. Being a good reader of Turkish history, I really consider Sultan Selim I the brave to be the best Ottoman sultan of all time with his grandfather Mehmed the conqueror, it is the sultan who started from nothing, really nothing to be the best of all his dynasty, he was the third child of his father and a slave while his two older brothers were the children of princesses from noble families, his father lowered him lower than earth because he feared his strength, his courage, and his bravery, his father took him away by appointing him regent of Trabzon, which was the weakest village at the time of the empire and which had the least income, but above all the furthest of the capital thus decreasing his chances of ascending to the throne at the time of his death of his father, Selim fully deserved to be regent of the capital but the sultan gave it to his favorite son ahmed who was a weak good for nothing and who won the love of his father following his weak personality, selim executed and ruled Trabzone for 25 years making it a great cultural and economic center and making this small forgotten village an important city in the empire while protecting the country's borders against Safavid attacks. Selim was always called to the battlefield in view of his great leadership skills and a great man of war unlike his brothers Ahmed and Kurkut, he lost his son Mussa, when he was only old 13 year old and his favorite little brother Shahinjah in battlefields. The janissaries idolize Selim, which increases his father's fear against him and under the schemes of his brother Ahmed, the only son of Selim remaining alive, Sulyman (who will become after the great Sulyman the Magnificent), to the province of Kafa in the Crimea, who made Selim angry but did not act against his father, at the same time, Sélim lost his two greatest supporters: his mother Aicha hatun whom he had loved and respected deeply, and his mentor and sole supporter In the course, his teacher Mawlana Abdolhalim Afandi, he was left only with his beloved wife Aicha Hafse Hatun, his son Suleyman and the son of his deceased teacher, Hassan Afendi, whom he considered a true brother. The shenanigans of the court increase: The viziers support more and more Ahmed in view of his weak personality so for them, he was more easily manipulated than the strong selim, Sultan Béyazit, the father of Selim, weakened by the age more and more, and selim and far in Trabzon without support. Shah Ibrahim, the brother of Shah Safavid Ismail I, attacked the tribes of Turkmans who are under the Ottoman reign, these tribes asks for the help of Sultan Béyazit who refuses to go to war against the Safavids following their peace treaty, they turn to selim for help, selim comes out at the head of his troops and volunteers from Trabzone and saves his people by liberating 5 turkman towns from the safavids and capturing the Shah's brother as a prisoner of war. The people and the janissaries acclaim selim and want him as a sultan, which prompted ahmed to revolt against his father, beyazit, to seize the throne for fear that selim would win the battle for the throne when beyazit died weakened by the age, selim retaliates with a rebellion in turn, but the sultan succeeds in defeating his two sons, selim is forgiven thanks to the janissaries who put pressure on the sultan to put him back on the head of his duties and ahmed and forgiven thanks to the viziers who support him and the power exercised by his mother, Beyazit's favorite wife, over the sultan. Sélim returns to Trabzon but basically, the war between him and Ahmed for the throne is officially declared and it is Sélim who wins it in the end by deposing his father who has always belittled him and killing his brother Ahmed who had always fought. Selim ascends to the throne and manages the empire with an iron fist, he hated injustice so much that at the slightest mistake of a vizier, he beheaded him on the spot. Selim was very close to the people, a widower woman, mother of a soldier who died in war, had one day lodged a complaint against the leader of Manissa, who was none other than the son of Selim, Crown Prince Sulayman, saying that she has been living in poverty for a few months after the death of her son and that she does not receive the donation she was supposed to receive, and she lodged a complaint with Prince Sulayman who did not respond. Selim, furious, moved in person from Istanbul to Manissa, and under a fit of anger, broke the arm of his son Sulayman for his failure and told him that he is lucky who does not yet have a son male to inherit the dynasty otherwise he would have cut off his head following this error, moreover, the whole team of the prince was beheaded and replaced by another, and the request of the old woman was carried out. this accident pushed soulaymane to be more careful and very sharp on the execution of many laws, which earned him the nickname of '' Kanuni '' (the legislator). Sélim slept 4 hours a day to carry out his country, he defended Sunite Islam by declaring war on the Shiite Safavids and he succeeded in capturing Sah Ismail I, the king of the Safavids, which considerably weakened Shiit Islam in the world, and today, if Sunite Islam is better known than Shiit Islam, it is thanks to Sultan Selim. Sultan Selim, in 47 years old and suffering from gout, which made his participation in the wars difficult, came out at the head of his troops against the Portuguese and saved the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad from the remains, which earned him the title of "Amir el muminin" (the great leader of the Muslims), he was the first Ottoman sultan to bear it. selim places the ottman empire, in its 8 years of reign, in first place as being the strongest empire in the world in the 16th century. Despite his rough character and never smiling, some historians have said that Selim has a weak point: His grandson Prince Mustafa, who was his only living male grandson after the death of Soulayman's other two male sons, who physically resembled Sélim a lot and who was of great leniency and benevolence which earned him afterwards to be compared to his grandfather Mehmed the conqueror: Sélim the dark, the angry, smiled in full teeth at the remarks of the little Mustafa whom he let attend state meetings. Selim also took his grandson on horseback to greet the people, he affectionately called him 'Sultan Mustafa', a nickname that people later kept for Mustafa when he became older. He brought Mustafa to see the Janissaries, which earned Mustafa the unconditional love of the Janissaries, who greatly loved his grandfather Sultan Selim, from a young age, and this later led to the revolt of the Janissaries after the execution of mustafa. Selim brought Mustafa on his travels to Trabzon and the cities close to him, including Ammassya, whom Mustafa would later rule as governor under the reign of his father, Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent, moreover Trabzone, amassya, the cities which are theirs close to anatolia and roumaylie, revolted after the execution of prince mustafa, whom they have always seen as the dear grandson of their selim sultan, more than the son of sulleymane the magnificent. Moreover, the historians bring that the workers in the castle of trabzon said that the nights which followed the execution of Mustafa, they heard cries of pain which prevented from the old room of the sultan selim! and some historians say that soulaymane was not only jealous of the strength, the courage and the great love that the people, the viziers and the janissaries had for Mustafa, but in fact he developed an unconscious jealousy, of the great affectionate love that wore selim for his grandson mustafa, while sulaymane did not see the same love in the eyes of his father selim. soulaymane also cried one of the nights after mustafa's death saying that he is afraid to face his father selim after his death in view of what he did to mustafa.
That's why I love selim very much, the unloved son, the brave prince, the conquering sultan, the honest ruler, the protector of Islam, the terrible enemy, the loving grandfather. the little outsider prince who started from the sultan's son and a simple slave, the unloved prince whom no one supported, to be the great leader of the Muslims, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the caesar, sultan Selim the brave. Rest in peace.

This proves why Suleiman was so unfair to Mustafa and favoured his other sons over him. Suleiman was just like his father but paranoid and in haste executed innocent Mustafa because of his jealousy and his fear of him being more popular than him. Selim and Mustafa were the same, unloved and treated unfairly but they were strong but the difference is Mustafa chose not to overthrow his father, hence why he was executed. But Allah punished Suleiman by making him execute his other competent son Beyazid through Selim (Ironic he repeated history but with brothers).

@@namertm7765 Suleyman does not look like his father Sélim in any way, Suleyman looks more like his grandfather Beyazit: Suleyman was not at all Sélim's favorite, since Sélim greatly preferred his two other sons Musa and Orhan whom he put forward a lot and bring them to the field of war from their ages of 10, unlike Suleymane who eclipsed his son mustafa by completely refusing that he participate in the war, and he sent him to Amasya very far from the capital, as had done Beyazit for Selim by sending him to Trabzone), moreover the first conflict between Sultan Beyazit and his son Selim broke out when Beyazit removed Suleyman, the son of Selim, to the province of Kafa, which Selim found unfair for his son and wrote to his father threatening him with revolt if he did not transfer to a closer province, knowing that Selim was on the head of the village farthest from the capital for 25 years unfairly and he did not never expressed his displeasure, but s when his father tried to reproduce the same injustice with his son Sulayman, he flatly refused him, which indicates that Selim really loves his children and wants to put them forward, unlike Suleyman who hated Mustafa and did everything to put him in the spotlight. backstage, as Sultan Beyazit did for his son Selim. As I said, Suleyman was not the favorite son of Sélim who greatly preferred Musa and Orhan to him, especially Orhan who had the same strong and sanguine character as him, unfortunately Sélim lost Musa at the age of 13 in the war and loses Orhan at the age of 20 because of tuberculosis without leaving a male descendant since the latter leaves behind him two daughters, and this before Selim is sultan, and therefore Selim only remains to him Sulaymane who was, by the standards he imposed, the weakest of his sons. Despite this, Sélim never showed favoritism between his children, he always tried to propel them forward, Musa, Orhan and Sulaymane each according to what he preferred: He brought Musa and Orhan to war against these sides and he formed Suleymane from an administrative point of view by sending him the best professors and teachers and asking the leaders he left in Trabzone when he went to war to remain in constant contact with his son Souleyman, the name thus indirectly as ruler of Trabzone during his absence. Regarding the conflicting relationship between Suleyman and his father Selim: Selim, especially after he became sultan, was very hard on Suleyman not out of malice and because he hated him! , Selim was harsh with his son to make him a worthy heir: Selim was very tyrannical with Suleyman and punished him for the slightest mistake, going so far as to hurt him physically by breaking his arm and insulting him in front of the whole court royal for a mistake that was made by the tutor of Sulayman, not even by Suleyman but Selim didn't want to know anything. On the one hand, I perfectly understand this cruelty of Selim: Selim was not originally destined to be sultan since the favorite was his brother Ahmed, he was literally kicked out by his father Beyazit who sent him to the most far from the empire without any help and support, Beyazit used her son Selim as a simple mercenary to win wars that will kill all her sons after Ahmed's rise to the throne. So neither Selim nor his children had the training and education to be eligible heirs to rule the empire one day. So Selim, who ascended to the throne late, at 42, finds himself with an only remaining male son, Suleymane aged 18 (mustafa was not yet born since he was born two years after Selim ascended to the throne), the weakest of his sons in addition after the loss of Musa and Orhan, Selim was therefore under great stress and wanted at all costs to form, in a short time, a worthy heir for the ottman empire, hence his ferocity with Suleiman. And I also understand the very great love that Selim had for his grandson Mustafa: It's the love that every grandfather has for his grandson, even if Selim is the strongest Sultan of his dynasty, a a ruthless warrior, but he remains a human being: Selim had only one father figure in his childhood: his grandfather Mehmet conquering him. Historians reported that a painter presented a portrait of Mehmed the conqueror to Selim but Selim was furious throwing the drawing away and suggesting to redo it and saying that it has nothing to do with the real conqueror whose he remembers his face very well since when he was little, when his father brought him to religious festivals at the castle of his grandfather the Sultan, Sultan Mehmet cradled him in his arms, caring with great affection when he was with him in the administrative meetings.

@@namertm7765 Moreover, it was no secret to anyone, historically, Mehmet the conqueror (as presented here at the beginning of the video) greatly preferred his grandson Sélim who showed a lot of intelligence and a strong character, to his other grandsons, Mehmed the conqueror affectionately called him ''part of my heart'', I sometimes wonder if Béyazit has not developed the same inferiority complex and the same jealousy towards Selim as that developed by Suleyman towards Mustafa, in view that Selim was more loved by mehmet the conqueror compared to Béyazit, since Sultan Mehmet largely favored his other son, prince Cim (Zizim), to succeed him to the throne compared to Béyazit, judged in turn weak by his father! So Selim had this beautiful memory of his loving grandfather who was the best sultan of his dynasty, and it was decided that Mustafa remembered the same thing and also had this memory of him and went as an example if one day Mustafa became sultan like Selim being sultan had Mehmet the conqueror as an example. What's more, Selim really didn't have time to be a good father: He's someone who has spent most of his life, 42 of his lives in fear for his life and that of his children. brother Ahemd and his own father Sultan Beyazit, between his duty to succeed on the battlefield otherwise the empire would be destroyed because of the incompetence of his brothers and his father, and between his instinct for survival since he was the head to be slaughtered by his own father and his brother, the very big favorite to be the future sultan, Sélim did not really have time to be a present father for his children, he had more the mission to keep them in life than to be a loving father to them. Selim arrived at the throne certainly, but internally bruised, Selim never wanted to overthrow his father, if he wanted to do it, he would not have waited until the age of 42, he would have done it from the beginning of his twenties, Sélim already led the Janissaries in the battlefields at 17! Selim was forced to overthrow his father because Ahmed was the first to revolt, Selim revolted as a response to Ahmed more than to eliminate his father! Another event broke Selim's heart: the betrayal of his brother Korkut: Selim really respected Korkut, he also named one of his sons, who died in infancy, Korkut in the name of his brother whom he really loved: Korkut was Selim's eldest brother after Ahmed, although he was not brothers from the same mother, but Korkut treated Selim correctly unlike Ahmed who mistreated him, and Korkut showed no interest in the throne. When Selim ascended to the throne in 1512, he executed his brother Ahmed but left Korkut alive, until 1513 when Korkud made the irreparable fault, responding favorably to the request of the Janissaries to revolt against his brother Sultan Selim and beginning to build an army to do so, but unfortunately for him, the request was simply a trick by Selim to test his brother's loyalty. Historians have reported that Selim wept over the dead body of his brother Korkut after his execution blaming him for his betrayal and blaming him for pushing her to kill him when he truly loved him. Selim also greatly regretted the death of his mother, Aisha hatun, who was his only support and the only person who protected him and believed in him from the start, Selim's love for his mother is reflected, after having became sultan, by sending each year 500,000 citizens, along his reign of 8 years, to the Mecca to make the pilgrimage (El Haj) in return for making an Oumra for his defeated mother. Another bruised event Selim: His first male grandson from Suleyman and his wife Mahidevran sultan, Mahmud, there are two versions of this little prince: The first is that this prince died before the birth of Mustafa since Mustafa was still considered to be the only male grandson from Suleyman of Selim when he was alive, the second version that hurts the most is that Mahmud was born sick in 1512 which caused him a disability (paralyzed) and a very fragile health which pushed his parents to keep him in Manissa without him ever leaving her for fear that he would lose his life given the fragility of his state of health, which kept him far from his grandfather Selim who reigned in Istanbul, and who poses a serious problem for the future of the dynasty, with Sulayman as the only son, if he died it was a disaster, and a grandson, Mahmud, paralyzed illegible to reign and who was not going to live long (He died at the age of 9 years old, a year after the death of his grandfather Sultan Selim). So the arrival of Mustafa who was born in 1515, in good health, was a deliverance for the Ottman royal family, Selim can finally die in peace, there is a continuation of the dynasty with a grandson who has just reinforced the line.

@@namertm7765 And Mustafa arrived at a time when Selim is really quiet: He is the ultimate Sultan of the empire, he killed all the people who can be a danger to his life, he has two eligible heirs to the throne (Suleymane and Mustafa himself ), Selim made all these enemies tremble with fear, So Selim could be more present in the life of his family, in the life of Mustafa therefore, than before when he was a simple prince who was not even an heir who was fighting to stay alive, therefore almost absent from the life of Suleymane. Moreover, from another point of view, Selim tried to make up for lost time with his grandson: Selim did not know his father's love, he also did not know how to transmit love to these children, the only form of love he has known, apart from the love of his mother, is the love of his grandfather mehmet the conqueror. With the arrival of Mustafa, he now has his own grandson, a small child described as intelligent, quiet and showing great modesty and affection to those around him. A little child who looked like him physically, like two drops of water, according to historians. He has a child that he can form and shape according to his will, which he has not done much with his own children that serve, he brought them to war and he exercised them in the administration but they were under the control. reign of Sultan Béyazit who decided on their guardians, the age at which he tore them from their father, the provinces where he put them, the teams with which they worked, Selim could do nothing! Sélim therefore saw everything towards Mustafa: A little child to whom he could express all his love of a loving grandfather, who would have liked to have this love from his father, and he also saw in mustafa the future of the empire, the future sultan he could form with his own hands, which could not do with Sulaymen before. Moreover, according to historians, Mustafa had more than 20 teachers of different specialties, the best coming from the three continents under the orders of his grandfather Sélim, from the age of 3 only!!!! Several ambassadors said that Sultan Selim was often seated at his throne with a small child in his arms, this child is none other than Mustafa, When Suleymane came from Manissa in religious festivals with his family in the capital, Selim refused to let his grandson mustafa returned with his father and ordered him to leave him in Istanbul, moreover it is often reported that mustafa ran and played in the palace gardens under the watchful eye of his grandfather who trained him in the use of the sword. This also created a certain distance between Mustafa and Sulaymane more than in Mustafa's first 5 years, Selim was more present in Mustafa's life than Suleyman. Mustafa was actually more Selim's grandson than Suleyman's son. In fact, after the death of Selim, there was not only one heir to the throne: There was the heir, the son of Sultan Selim, the new Sultan Suleyman, the only living male son of Sultan Selim is therefore the legitimate heir by default, but there is also the heir of the heart, the grandson of Sultan Selim, Sultan Mustafa (Selim call him that in front of the people, the viziers and the janissaries, while that he did not even call suleymane with his honorific 'prince' since he called him Suleymane all the way, and in the name of the Son of Hafsa when he made him angry!). There were thus two sultans in the empire of Suleyman, with a scenario similar to that of Sultan Béyazit, the grandfather of Suleyman, who ascended the throne as sultan because he is the eldest according to the translation (c is mainly because he was weak and manipulable, which is how the viziers preferred him) but he rode there with another sultan, Prince Cim who was the sultan of the heart predicted by their father Mehmet the conqueror, that led to a war that was fatal to Cim, but despite this, Sultan Beyazit shared his reign in spite of himself with Selim, who was borderline the Superior Head of the state since it was he who protected the reign of his father and not his brothers or even his father! (like what is said in the video). Suleymane was in this state and he understood well: He was the sultan by default according to the translation (since selim was very strong as a sultan and that he monopolized all the power under his hand, we had no success in Suleyman as crown prince under the reign of his father!), much like Sultan Béyazit was, and had with him his own son, who was only 5 years old, so too small to be a threat, but to whom his grandfather bequeathed his greatest inheritance, better than the throne: the love of the people and especially of the Janissaries. So in Sulayman's head, it was clear: History repeats itself, he being Béyazit and Mustafa being Selim, so he had to do everything not to make Mustafa a second Selim.

Until the last period of the Ottoman Empire, the Osmanoğlu family produced very talented and intelligent rulers compared to other dynasties in the world. Examine why Yavuz Sultan Selim Han went on expeditions to Iran and Egypt. He loved simplicity. He disliked pomp and luxury. He is also a great poet. Some recorded lyrics:
"Courage leads to victory, indecision leads to danger, cowardice leads to death."
"I wish I could go to Andalusia from the north of Africa and then come back to Istanbul via the Balkans!
"We did not endure all the hardships for the sake of applause, our pure intention is the pleasure of Allah."
"For me, there is no greater honor than being a servant of those blessed authorities. Call me Hadimul-haremeyn (Servant of Mecca and Medina)."
"Compassion that encourages the traitor is close to cruelty."

This serial about Selim the Grim, Yavuz Sultan Selim, we Turks call him, was produced by the Gulf Arab regimes in order to defame the Sublime Ottoman Empire in the eyes of the Arab public in the Middle East. Contrary to this target, Arab audiences have become more admired to the history of the Ottoman conquest of the Middle East, especially Sultan Selim's just and faithful struggle with Shia Safavids in Iran on the one hand, and against the demising Mamluk State in the Levant and Egypt on the other. Sultan Yavuz Selim conquered the whole Middle East just in two years and took control of the responsibility of the Khilafah on behalf of the Muslim ummah. He not only doubled the Ottoman territory, but also guaranteed the protection of the holy lands for centuries. Peace, stability and welfare have been restored in the Middle East in the early 16th century up until to the Arab Revolt of the early 20th century by the help of the British.
Sultan Selim's legacy has been destroyed by the alliances of Sharif Hussein, Amir Faisal, Lawrence of Arabia, Gertrude Bell, Lord Curzon, Teodor Herzl, Lord Balfour, David Ben Gurion, King Abdullah, Sir Mark Sykes, François Georges Picot and others, no need to mention here. The Middle East no doubt, has missed a ruler like Yavuz Sultan Selim since hundred years. But Arab leaders still continue to cooperate with today's representatives of those afore-mentioned names as they try to de-Islamize themselves and their peoples with an attempt at erasing the Turkish historical legacy in the region. However, they will not be able to do this, because the Muslim Arab youth know everything better than their puppet regimes and aware of the permanent truth, which cannot be dissimulated in our age of information and technology.
    Cheers,

There's a saying in old Turkish saying from that era which is "Sultan Selim'e vezir olasın." Translation "Be a viceroy to Selim". Which is basically a curse for a person you may dislike. :))))
He really had no patience (literally - zero tolerance) against insufficient leadership , any type of weakness or mistake. Most of his administrators were beheaded if they corrupt, selfish or made just one mistake.
If you're an administator you should act on behalf of the state and the people of the state, relentlesy. This is why they called him (Yavuz-The Grim). Not agains his enemies but against beign ignorant, layz, corrupt or weak minded.
Basically he was a perfectionist. Thats why he was able to tripple the size of the state just in 8 years of his short reign. Sultan Selim Han Hazretleri If you want to learn how he impacted the world history i strogly prefer you a book which is published several years ago by Prof. Alan Michael. Selim "God's Shadow". you will learn more interesting facts. Even why Cristopher Colombus had to sail to the west.

He was instead a great follower of justice and as historians claim with evidence and not empty words(like yours), he served justice even if it did mean to go against his own son Suleiman(to whom he literally broke an arm because he did not answer to a reclaim of a poor woman who asked for a minimum salary, as the laws permitted, because she did not have enough wealth to even afford food) and there are many other examples such as this, just study more before claiming what you DO NOT know.

Allah knows everything, if Selim had not existed, would there have been the power to stop the Shah of Persia ? The Shah was a great warrior, his soldiers were fanatically loyal and devoted. But Selim was a marshal-sized commander. Just as in history, successful or powerful people who were defeated in the past were confronted by a more powerful one. Pompey-Julius Caesar, Darius- Megas Alexanderos, East Roman- Khalid ibn Al-Walid, Jalaluddin Harezmshah-Genghis Khan. The Mamluk sultanate no longer had the power to carry the flag of Islam in this region.

Sultan Bayezid loved his son Ahmed and wanted to give him the throne. But Ahmet was incompetent and his son was a Kizilbash. Although Selim defeated the Safavids before and organized successful campaigns against the Georgians and Armenians, he did not like him because of his agression and after he exiled Selim to the eastern border, to Trabzon, so that he would not reach Istanbul and Ahmed or Korkut could take the throne. Those Ahmed and Korkut who could not even defeat Shah Kulu rebels.
