    I did today my first dive with my new Ace pro. Perfect images. Natural and bright colors. Better that the Gopro of the dive shop

    • @dinnersat630
      @dinnersat630 3 дня назад

      GoPro has a sharper image though no? Looks like the Ace Pro makes things a little too blue sometimes.

    • @escamoteur

      @@dinnersat630 can't really confirm. To me the images look pretty much as I experienced it when diving

  • @dinnersat630
    @dinnersat630 3 дня назад

    The Ace Pro footage is so soft. Almost looks blurry and the color shift looks so annoying. Hard to tweak that in the app when half your clip is one color and the other half is another.

    Fantasic review Matthias! Pushing the camera much beyond its limits! Makes your review stand out.

      Thanks buddy. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it and I hope it is useful for many other divers out there, trying to decide whether the Ace Pro is or isn't the underwater action camera for them.

    As usual spot on review . While I have my iPhone I don’t think I will be needing a action camera I can use it anytime anywhere 😂😂😂

      I will test that side by side and in more detail soon. But from what I've seen so far from the Insta360 Ace Pro, I'm not very optimistic it will be better than the GoPro Hero 12.

      Not that I know of, no. But honestly speaking I haven’t tested every feature of the camera so I might have missed it (not a very important feature to me).

    thanks for review, been watching several of these, i was wondering if you have come across the on board ai chip trying to "correct" schools of fish it sees as noise, I've only seen it in one RUclips review so far, but it was enough for me to hesitate on the purchase

    • @MatthiasLebo
      @MatthiasLebo  6 месяцев назад

      No, I haven't experienced this so far. But then again, there wasn't really many fish around here in Lake Zurich during my testing dives. I'll keep an eye out for it when testing it in tropical waters next.
      The whole AI thing is great, but only when it works properly, and I think it still has too many flaws for me to comfortably rely on it. We're getting there, it's just not at the quality level I feel happy with.

      No worries mate. Yep, I had the same thing happening to me on my Insta360 X3. But I thought it had something to do with it being a 360 degree camera. Apparently not...

      @@MatthiasLebo I guess there were only few UW use of their camera in the past, especially in SCUBA market. So they have little info or sample files on how and what SCUBA diver look for. I'm still wonder, though, if or can you fix the whitebalance value instead of Auto, would there be any difference? My previous experience with Insta360 Go2 was that if the clip started toward empty water for a while (1-2 secs), whitebalance seems to be more stable throughout the clip.

    • @MatthiasLebo
      @MatthiasLebo  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, that's probably true, but then they shouldn't put an advertising focus on underwater footage as they do.
      Sure, you can manually set the WB to a certain color temperature, you just can't change it throughout your dive. Also not ideal, as the ambient color temperature will change depending on your depth.

    Very enjoyably video. But just a little disappointing too as I’ve just bought one for filming in similar conditions (Scottish rivers in the dairy country - so a little cloudy). Perhaps my iPhone 14 would have been sufficient.

  • @1asset
    @1asset 3 месяца назад +1

    i don't understand how you can shoot in bad conditions in switzerland when most people are not going for underwater shots there in those conditions. who would spend this kind of money on a bitty camera to take that kind of footage? for example, i'm heading to the galapagos islands to shoot. if this kind of day happens i'm not going into the water. why waste my time? underwater housing for my backup camera is $1900. this camera is my test drive. bringing both a gopro hero 12 and the ace pro tho (and my damn iphone, tho i'm not expecting much with that one)
    saying this because i'm disappointed that this wasn't just a decent tutorial on maximizing the effectiveness of your ace pro while shooting underwater, rather than just a criticism i can't use for a camera i already bought. a simple critique would have been fine if you were actually shooting someplace decent on a decent day for shooting. disappointed the hell out of me.

    • @1asset

      Just got back from galapagos, shooting on sunny days with great visibility. My ace pro footage was crap/throwaway. Murky, fish out of focus, colors dull. The gopro hero 12 footage was much better. So much for all the sponsored hype.

    Great review. I haven't expected miracles. I'm also a freshwater diver but to better lighting condition test would be great. All my action cameras suck under low vis, low light condition. Another issue I can see is the bad quality corners, which is also typical problem of the action cameras with wide angle lens behind a flat port. At least for GoPro you can buy a water contact lens to correct it (AOI or Inon). My best investment of the year was an AOI UCL-03.

    • @MatthiasLebo
      @MatthiasLebo  6 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks buddy. I know. I would have loved to do my tests in better visibility and conditions, but unfortunately I still can't control the weather. 😂
      I will definitely do more testings in the near future but I'm not very optimistic my conclusion will turn out much different. Hopefully more accessories will be available for the Insta360 Ace Pro at some point in the future.
      The availability of so many third party accessories for the GoPro ecosystem is in my opinion the biggest advantage of the GoPro over other action cams, including the Ace Pro.

    To be honest, that's really very disappointing..... I'll stay with my GP H10, in combination with the Hugyfot housing and proper lighting, the footage right out of the camera is amazing.

    Finally a well done Review which seems to point out the bad sides of this cam. You gained another follower!!!
    I was watching all the clips from the big youtubers and notized quite often that if a colorshift apears they simply just cut the video and didnt mentioned it. same goes for the color depth... literally no one was talking about 8 bit. I was really considering this camera bust these two points are absolutly nogo for me. Id rather have a sharp darker image with more post production option and stable colors on a gopro than this. Thank you very much for this honest Video!!!

    You are definitely always have some favorites and your reviews are very subjective. Don’t test the cameras in the dump like some lake with nothing to see - even the best cameras will perform poorly. Add the depth- as between 5-10m and 30m depth it’s a huge difference. WB in Auto underwater? That’s even working it’s a wonder!

  • @ganselmo1

    I think if you set white balance to manual mode colors will stay in tune

    • @MatthiasLebo
      @MatthiasLebo  6 месяцев назад

      Sure, you can do that, but then you're stuck on one color temperature only throughout the entire dive. I can't see this being very practical unless you use artificial lights and will always have the same ambient color temperature, created by your video lights. This probably won't work for most users.

    • @MatthiasLebo
      @MatthiasLebo  6 месяцев назад +2

      That's a question that can not be answered with YES or NO. But if you want best possible colors and are prepared to color correct your footage in post, the GoPro's 10-bit footage is definitely going to give you much better options to do so.

    That footage looks nothing like what I captured with default settings on mine. Wow. I wonder what the sensor and AI are doing that causes such a difference

    • @MatthiasLebo
      @MatthiasLebo  6 месяцев назад

      Well, that's the downside of AI I guess. You don't really have much control over what all those fancy AI features and the processor are doing to the captured image. They manipulate it in a way that they were trained to and that they find best. And this doesn't always have to be the best for the current situation. They might do a good gob in decent conditions, but definitely not across all situations.
      AI is definitely here to stay and will make our life as underwater filmmakers easer, no doubt about that. But you need to know the limitations too, and at this early stage, they are plentiful in my opinion. Let's see how these features develop and improve in the future...
