  • Upgrade that chopping block and screw an old tire on it!
Please comment if you have any better suggestions to this method.

Yes to making biochar from the bark or just put it on the bottom of a raised garden bed, top with soil or compost!

I have the same rig. I start out with the Fiskars 6 lb. Maul then switch to the x27 as it’s lighter to swing.

I like the idea but why not stack the wood on the pile behind you as you split it? That way you wouldn’t have to go back and pick it up off the ground and stack it later.

I just threw it on the ground for the sake of the video, usually have the wheelbarrow near

That stack is silly behind me anyways, was just for the video. The wind would surely wreck it lol. I put it all in the passive solar greenhouse to dry out and stay dry. Wood splitters cost money, might as well pay for the propane furnace but wood stoves are king when shtf

Great idea with the tire, but who would ever use pine for anything but kindling. Fir is bad enough. Oak and madrone is what we use around here

Oak is $600 a cord here unless you live near placerville 100 miles away. Lodgepole is free, I have free pinyon pine at the new house. Pine is fine, just doesnt burn as long as oak.

Lots of people. Just because you wouldn’t do it doesn’t make it wrong.

@@JaredHempfield wow, i guess I’d burn it too if I had to pay 600 a cord. We’re lucky we have plenty of oak and madrone on our property. I give away chords of seasoned fir.
