Thank you for this comparaison. I love the m/s!
It seems to me that the mkh 30 has the most relaxed sound and spacialisation, the 8030 is a close second but a bit more tense, the 816 crates a bit of a "traffic jam" effect in sounds and the Sanken is a bit overactive.
Would that correspond to your experience?
Warm greetings and thank you for your work and sharing!
    Gordan

Thanks. I think that's an accurate point. Personally, I really like the faithful representation of the original sound and the spatial spaciousness of the 8040/8030 combination.

Hi. I'm planning to buy MKH 8030 for nature/surf recording. Sorry, I'm new to field recording, why do you record with another mic (8040)? Thank you.

Hi. One stereo recording technique is called M/S recording. Two microphones are placed on the same axis, and in this case the 8040 was used as the Mid microphone and the 8030 as the Side microphone.Mid microphones are often cardioid, so I chose the 8040, which is also a cardioid microphone from Sennheiser's 8000 series. Sorry. I hope my poor English has conveyed the message to you. I hope your nature/surf recording goes well. Thank you.

@@matsuurasfx Hey thanks a lot. Your English is perfect.
Can you give me some options to buy. I shoot videos (so I don't think I will go for 2 mic or M/S recording because it will be bulky), so I need only 1 mic.
I shoot nature/forest with animals playing and I also shoot Surfing. I need a mic which can capture what's happening around the forest/animals or during surfing, around the surfers. So I probably don't need unidirectional. I also don't shoot indoor much. I have Sony ECM-VG1 which is very average.
Which mic (one mic) would you suggest? I also prefer shorter size and not heavy.
I like your audio, it's very immersive, as if I'm there.
Thank you for your expert opinion.

@@goofysurfista Shorter than other microphones, it allows stereo recording with 1 mic.
      Sanken cms-10: sanken-mic.com/en/product/product.cfm/9.1001300
But I have never used that. The specs show that it cannot record low tones, so you may not be satisfied with the power of the recorded sound. Sorry.
