I believe that George infamously recalled in a segment filmed for "Anthology" (but not seen until 2003 when the DVD box set came out) that he played the Bass VI on this track. He, Paul, Ringo and Big George Martin were listening to the multitracks. When they isolated the tracks and the bass came on, George H said to Paul, "Is that you?" George M said, "says here it was done live and Paul's on piano". George H replies, "then it must've been me on that six-string Fender bass." I know George's memory was spotty at times, but I'll take his word for it here.
That clip is hilarious. At first Paul and George are convinced it's a Paul overdub until George M points out it's take 17 and the bass is on all the takes, so George says, 'He was very keen.' 🤣George couldn't even remember which album it was on!
I think George played bass on this song, as Paul was on piano and John was in hospital in Scotland. George did have a Fender Jazz bass but I think the tone of the Fender VI is very similar to the recording.
Awesome covers, Sam! I always wondered what guitar part Paul played on Carry That Weight, as both he and George were credited playing guitar on that song. Can't wait for The End!
You did a very good job on your performances (the guitar play and the sound), it's always a great pleasure to listen these fabulous songs. Just a thing, could you increase the volume of the playback ? It's a pity not hearing much the voices. Thx 👍
@@sampopkin thx...that seems to be the general consensus; i've just always had this suspicion it could actually be john on that haha...who do you think played bass on 'she said'?
Even if I love the Fender VI tone, I still believe George used the Jazz Bass for this one, specially thanks to the photos taken around the days they recorded them.
The sound of that squier bass VI is so good ❤ (especially on gently weeps). Even though i love the medley and obviously Abbey Road as a whole, these two songs along with The End have always been my favorite "section" of the medley... P.S: Off topic, but last week i think you posted a story on your instagram with a Ravi Shankar song and i can't seem to recall which one but it sounded really nice, can you by any chance mention the song title again? Thanks!
Thanks! Golden Slumbers has always been my favorite too The Ravi song is Prabhujee. George and Ravi actually perform it live on VH1 if you wanted to search that performance
@@sampopkin thanks a lot! ruclips.net/video/gID_eUUkaIw/видео.htmlsi=i6Acxw8jqGrQBOCX Is this the performance you are referring to? It's very sweet, apparently their last performance together too according to the comments.
Honestly, I don't buy the idea that Paul played guitar on the song. The guitar work sounds like it all came from the Telecaster, and George was probably the one who knew how to use the Leslie speaker the best.
I thought you had some mistakes on your playing but after I read the description you were just replicating George's mistakes, impressive
I always loved the tone of the Squier VI, it's so crispy.
I love that George played bass on three Abbey Road tracks, Maxwell, Oh Darling and Carry that Weight.
4 if you count Golden Slumbers
@@sampopkintrue good point
oh! darling too ? really ? i didn't know that

I would agree with that. Seems more George’s style of playing than John’s.

My favorite Beatles song “Golden Slumbers” as a single song and my favorite medley too. What a pleasure to listen to you cover this masterpiece 😊

Doesnt get any better than this

awesome job as always brother...that first lead guitar part at 2:07 is an all-time fave; that's paul correct?
George on Les Paul!
@@sampopkin ok cool thx man...did george play the solo on 'hey bulldog' also?
Yes most likely
@@sampopkin thx...that seems to be the general consensus; i've just always had this suspicion it could actually be john on that haha...who do you think played bass on 'she said'?
Paul definitely played bass on she said she said, although for a long time it was assumed to be George
Didn’t John and George play the outro arpeggio in unison on You Never Give Me Your Money?
Yes
Well for one part. It was mostly John doubled
Good job, and good analysis.
Excellent Video
Sam estoy esperando que hagas un video afinando el bass VI saludos de argentina
Sounds great Sam!
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day sam also happy father's day ❤😊
nice
Amazing bass
wow amazing!
❤🇧🇷
Sam, Soily soon? from one hand clapping?
Beautiful. Is that a polaroid one-step on the shelf?
Yes :)

The tone is definitely jazzy but that big three octave leap seems near impossible to do on a four string
Sounds a little “scoopier” than a Jazz Bass, so I still believe it’s the Bass VI
Arent their sources that believe believe there were overdubs on July 30th on Guitar and Vocals (31st was the solo)
I think the orchestral overdubs were that late. Most guitar overdubs were done on the two days after basic
@@sampopkin orchestra was august 15

Yes George’s last televised performance!
I had always from day one assumed the bass was Paul on his Ric.
The bass vi can sound like ric! But we know from outtakes the live lineup was Paul on piano and vox, George bass and ringo drums
What video editor do you use?
iMovie

I definitely buy that. Not sure why everyone lists Paul though
Flat-wound strings?
Yes
