Thank you Davis! Your videos are bye far the best. I replied to one of you videos and you immediately replied and that says a lot about your passion. This video definetly helps and is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks for taking the time to do this video. Had my boat with my Humminbird Helix for a little over a year, and this makes a lot of the information I need to understand much clearer.
Thank you Sir. Awesome demonstration of the sonar. I would like to see more about the Side Imaging and reading the shadows. I do NOT use my side imaging much at all. Because I don’t really understand how to use the shadows imaging. Thank you again Sir. God Bless.
Davis that was good when you teach you learn. that answered a lot of questions I can see running a slow chart screen to look for fish and structure then make another pass at the chart speed that is calibrated to the boat then stop and slay. thanks.
Hey brother thanks for your videos I've learned a lot. Im from Florida so most lakes are shallow and a fish finder is not required because just fishing you learn structure and depth quickly. But using it can definitely improve your results. So your videos have taught me how to use my Garmin correctly thanks brother 😀
When you pass an object, if you hit your cursor, move it over to the object, a reading should appear on the top line of your HB unit giving distance back and distance to the side.
Thanks man. I didn't realize the chart speed had that much to do with my down scan capability. I don't have side imaging on my lowrance reveal but I'm practicing using down imaging to find crappie.

I believe those crappie nibbles get those fish biting. First the will steal a few, then they get competitive and I start hooking up one after the other. Works for me. Good info.
I have only subscribed to a few channels and your 1 of them, thanks for your time on the water teaching us sonar newbies😁 I do have 1 question. Is the side imaging worth purchasing? I believe it's a 200.00 transducer upgrade?
I would recommend it, if you have the budget for it. Make sure your sonar unit is compatible with side imaging, even if you upgrade the transducer, it may not work with your sonar unit.
This a good question. From what I have experienced (specifically with my helix 5 ice fishing unit), if the transducer is not connected to the display, it will not give a GPS coordinate. My best guess is the waypoint is off the transducer, but i'm going to have to look into this more. Thanks for watching!

Another great video man!!! So..... it's been a year.... did you change how you set your chart speed for SI and DI? Seemed to me to be a bigger difference when using SI than when using DI. Also seemed the clarity wasn't effected too much on SI, but seemed like staying with the lower chart speed gave quite a bit more clarity on DI. So my take away from this awesome vid would be in SI, if you want almost real time response, jack up chart speed.... but with DI, I'd go for the clearer image, as even at a chart speed of 4 or 5, it looked pretty close to real time. Would you concur based on your testing of the theory of the last year?
I still set my chart speed to 1 setting above my boat speed. (ex. chart speed set to 4 when boat speed is 3mph). I have found that when vertically jigging and using 2D sonar, increasing the chart speed as high as it can go will give a much more real time (quick response) image.
I saw advertisement ,they put a ping pong ball on the string of there marker buoy 20 ft down, to demonstrate accuracy . It would be neat to through such buoy near schooling crappies . to mark on the surface and see marker on graph.
I will be doing more videos on the regular pantoptix, but I don't plan on buy the Livescope. If I didn't have the regular Panoptix already, I would look at getting the Livescope. Right now I'm saving up for the newest version of the Minnkota Ultrex trolling motor, mine is a little under powered.
Did you ever start running a faster chart speed? If so how did it affect the sonar? I typically do the Tri screen with Side, Down and Sonar on one screen. Will chart speed effect all at once or can I run each view at a different chart speed within one screen?
I've been running chart speed about 1-2 above my boat speed. I'm not sure if you can run different chart speeds with different split screens, never tried it before.
what is the solid line to the left of the boat? My 1198 does that as well that I just installed. I was thinking I was receiving a reading from the motor that I didn't have the transducer in a proper position but I guess not

if your transducer is mounted on the right side then probably since mine does the same. I actually need to move mine up a tiny bit so it doesn't shoot a stream from the back of the boat. I'll see if that helps mine at all@@FloppingCrappie

Then I start catching fish and run over the area to see if I can spot them on the screen...still nothing. How do I set my unit where I can see fish on my screen.
You might have to turn up the gain/ sensitivity on your sonar. Also check to make sure the transducer is level to the water. Let me know of this works for you, otherwise I may need more details about your setup to understand why you're not seeing fish.
Working on it, haha. It's been tough to get on the water the past couple weeks. my real job has kept me busy and temps are dipping into the 20s at night. I hope we will have open water through November. I'm not ready for ice fishing season yet.
I think my transducer is about 3inches in length maybe 3/4 inch wide. I've never had any issue with the lower unit from the outboard interfering with the signal. Is that what you're worried about?
Flopping Crappie yes. I believe the newer side imaging mega transducers stick out about 8 inches including the bracket. My motor is about 8” from the transom so it will be close. I’ve seen where some people have to trim their motor up to get the clearance. I don’t have trim so I’d like to make sure it will clear. I’m not sure why humminbird doesn’t provide that spec given the potential issue.

When I go back to anchor lock over the spot it looks like a jumbled mess. Gotta be my settings but can’t seem to figure it out.
My boat is still moving/passing over the brushpiles which is why they look like that. If my boat is sitting still over the brush pile, it would show straight line across the screen. The tranducer is receiving the same signal over and over again which is why it shows as a line. It is definitley not your settings. Fish will appear a straight line if the are directly below you tranducer for an extended period of time. Once the fish moves/swims away then the line will change on your screen.

Flopping Crappie well if u drive fast u want ur chart to update faster. Thats fair. But matching boat speed of 3 mph with setting of 3 on chart speed is not what they mean.
