Would highly recommend the book “Kill Bin Laden” which was written by Johns A Squadron commander Tom Greer aka “Dalton Fury.” This book is what made “Shrek” famous even long before anyone knew his real name. The battle of Tor Bora is a story that everyone should read about and learn from.
I read this book back in 2010 right after i read Jason Amerine's book. It was incredible to read about the details and piece together the stories from the small chunks of info from the news reports.

@@JB-uj8mz yes he did unfortunately. He lost his battle to cancer some years ago.. His memorial ceremony can be seen on RUclips with many of his Delta Tora Bora men he lead in 2001. Shrek was one of the 8 that helped carried Toms casket.. Its a powerful ceremony to watch. Some absolute Unit Legends attended that service including CSM Greg “Iron-head” Birch and Scotty Miller Ret.

Can vouch for the McMillan Tac 50 rifle. Got a special invite to Camp Atterbury by a SEAL Team 7 Contact for their in-house sniper school graduation day.
Got a tour of the base, their school, etc. Then got to shoot every weapon system they use from M4, to SCAR, 300 Win Mag suppressed sniper rifle, then the Tac 50, Shooting Raufoss 50, I was able to consistently put rounds on hard targets a mile away. It was amazing. Pissed off a couple of their instructors as they wondered how a Deputy Sheriff could shoot that well. Absolutely thrilled to meet so many of America's very best warriors.
I used to train at Atterbury and we used to call camp Faggerbury 😂😂😂

This is an example of someone who joins the army expecting to go to war rather than someone who expects everything but war so when they are called upon are shocked

If only more warriors were as honest about killing. Many special operators find they don't regret killing the way you think the would. But I suggest you consider he's only being honest about what our political leaders ordered him to do.

Shrek alone probably killed more than a 1000 personally...nice work, John. Facing the U.S. in battle is always a bad idea. Ask the Germans or Japs, they were terrified of the aggression of U.S. troops. The Germans were shocked by how U.S. troops, when having lesser numbers would attack anyway. The Japs thought the U.S. Marines were "devils", they were so vicious and relentless. Muslims aren't the only people with a warrior culture. Our warrior culture eats Jihadis for a snack. And even then, we were holding back...The full force of U.S. military power was never once felt by the Afghanis. Just smaller units outsmarting the Jihadis nonstop...

It’s interesting to compare a guy like him to other tier one ops that have been on. Eddie Penny, Dom. All seem to be sorta hesitant to talk about the kills. Where as John seems to be thrilled.

I don't think he was dumping on the SEALs. I think he was simply pointing out that his war experience was greatly different in that he always did have the opportunity to call in JDAMS, unlike SEALs.
Well, the story of that mission you were fed through the book and movie is a fabrication. They were ambushed and killed quickly, Luttrell ran away and was found with all of his magazines, which is confirmed by his Afghan rescuer. The Rangers on the rescue mission, confirmed in a book written by one of them, found a handful of 556 spent ammunition at the ambush location. There was no prolonged firefight.
@@maxmccain2106 Yes i know. And it was because of a lack of comms. If 3 Delta guys are ambushed from an elevated position by 50 local hardened Taliban fighters then they are dying too. This whole "special ops are impervious to bullets" thing needs to stop. 3 guys, no matter who they are, ambushed from above by 10 times their number are GONE

Its cool and all that but at the same time he was fighting cave dwellers with no serious military equipment/experience, and on the other side the delta force operator has the american military behind to support whatever he wants to do
I dont remember where i read it but someone pointed out how this "war on terror" will have serious implications in a future conflict with China and/or Russia since the experience that veterans will share with the new operators will be vastly different and could lead to false pretentions
Again, im probably exaggerating but in the future peer to peer conflict that the US will fight, you will rarely see soldiers as excited and arrogant as this guy, rather the opposite

competition goes,these veterans are pretty much out of the military and JSOC and SOCOM have been returned to their traditional status as enabling
forces for conventional warfighters vs the supported force they had been designated after 911.
100 years from now people will look back on the War on Terror the same way they look upon the Banana wars in the period betwen WW1 and WW2.
A lot of key WW2 Marine Corps leaders cut their teeth in the Banana Wars,but the Pacific War was orders of magnitude bigger than fighting in
the Dominican Republic or Nicaragua.

This guy is straight out of a movie. When you need to call the special operators to get back on the team for the most dangerous yet exciting mission ever undertaken...Who you gonna call? This dude, as the veteran wildcard cowboy ready and willing to kick some terrorist scum off the face of the EArth ...and on and on. I think a lot of the reason veterans have trouble after coming back is because theyre used to so many rules and regulations in the military. Even your home country can turn into the wild wild west at any moment these days depending on where you live. Youve gotta come back to yourself. An INDIVIDUAL. A person, not a number or a rank. Someone unique , this guy is being him. You dont have to like it but I respect it.

WOW is all I can say. He just matter of fact states we just killed everyone who showed up. I’m not sure how Shawn thought about that. Especially when he asked about ROE and he replied there were none. I’d really love to sit down with this guy and buy him a drink and listen to his stories. The top of the mountain gig really got me laughing my ass off.

Oh yeah those early days , months & that first year ROE was nonexistent, and that’s when the U.S military had their most success. I don’t think people remember but Al Queda and the Taliban were pretty much decimated at that time , Al Queda was all but destroyed , Taliban were running for the hills, crossing the borders & Afghanistan became pretty quiet for a little while and then Iraq started… and that’s when everything started to go downhill fast.. ROE became strict and even more strict as time went on, big mistakes were being made and then got what you got now.
