- Prince Harry was reportedly surprised by the backlash after being nominated for the Pat Tillman award by ESPN.
The criticism intensified when Pat Tillman’s mother publicly opposed the nomination.
Prince Harry will receive the Pat Tillman award at the ESPY Sports Awards on July 11 for his work with the Invictus Games foundation.
The award honours the late NFL player and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman.
However, Pat Tillman’s mother, Mary Tillman, criticised ESPN for honouring Prince Harry, stating there were "more fitting" recipients for the award.
“I am shocked as to why they would select such a controversial and divisive individual to receive the award,” she told the Daily Mail.
“There are individuals working in the veteran community that are doing tremendous things to assist veterans.”
ESPN said Prince Harry was being honoured for his "tireless work in making a positive impact for the veteran community through the power of sport" with his Invictus Games.
Sources told The Telegraph that criticism of Prince Harry regarding his military record and work with veterans is a "bitter pill to swallow.”
The ESPY Awards (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) are run by ESPN. The Pat Tillman Award is usually given to unsung heroes.
Last year, it was awarded to the Buffalo Bills training staff for saving a player's life on the field.

From an American's perspective, Pat Tillman's actions proved he was an honorable, selfless, courageous, brave, heroic, patriotic, loyal, forthright man who brought honor to his country by his willing service and ultimate sacrifice. Harry, who was NEVER in danger, played games and has embarrassed his country over and over again. The two men are opposites and therefore Harry is NOT WORTHY of this honor.

So a mistake or something like that happening makes you all discount what he has for 10 years with others for those games and injured veteran’s . Many of you also tried to take his role in those games away also despite in the 10th anniversary of those games those there the very few gave the history of those games and the role Harry played in them, listed him among the founders . I never knew anything about these games until hearing what those founders said, ,seeing videos on RUclips with an ever present Harry for 10yrs. way before marrying Meghan. He still gets in that ground despite titles playing soccer and more with those injured veterans, he visits other ones still in the hospitals,children who lost their parent in the war. You let your gossip British Press who ran with this story until finally Mary lashed on or they had her too ,go on about Meghan in Nigeria ,attacks on her. Meanwhile this man was doing as usual visiting wounded soldiers, playing with veterans on the ground regardless of his titles. He was not thought lawn and tea Party while the anniversary of the games event took place in the UK, was not honoring and giving military medals to William who did not deserve them. Notice none of you said anything about this, even though it took place in front of servicemen standing at attention,one of them not giving this . He was nit in Afghanistan,he never flew an Apache ,did 2 terms ,received medals he was entitled too. He threw a hissy fit when told no to third tour due to putting fellow soldiers at too greater risk (which he didn't care about) and quit instead of finding out how else he could serve. Oh he was happy then to go to the UK press and cry at how horrible the army was to say no to him.
He ditched an anniversary memorial for fallen Royal Marines that he was supposed to attend instead he attended the Disney premier of Lion King to tout his wife to the director.

Pat Tilliman actually served.
Harry hid in a bunker during his service and played on the xbox. Even slept through an attack on the base. If you also follow his time line of drug use he was on drugs as well whilst out there. Harry has no pilot licence as he couldn't pass the exams.
He couldn't even pass his own education exams without someone else doing them for him.

Bunker Harry doesn't deserve this award. he isn't American even, and Being a prince isn't anything to do with an American hero who sacrificed his life for his country. This guy is best known for throwing his entire family , including his incredible grandmother and grandfather, aside for a dubious ( to put it lightly) woman.
Exactly. He didn't visit his ill grandparents in their last years. He spent less than an hour with his dad when King Charles got diagnosed with cancer. Harry is merely a figurehead for the Invictus Games - other people do all the work, he just walks around during events with his lazy, money hungry wife. Harry now declining the award, as has been suggested, would most certainly not be perceived as a gracious gesture, but as reluctant capitulation over the mounting opposition to Harry having even been considered for the accolade. The time for Harry to have respectfully declined the award in favour of someone deserving, would have been when he was first selected for the award. Too little, too late.

I think there should be a prominent video on line telling the whole truth about the initiation of the Invictus games. How harry is only a figure head and how they thought it would give him something to concentrate on and keep him out of trouble.
