    He's earned my respect. I think the singing "John Cena sucks" song/chants has put him right up there with the Kurt Angle chants, where it's different than the original actually vitriol chants, now turned into a playful embrace. I'm a genuine Cena fan because of 2015.

      Hell Blazer people like you are so dumb, you don't have a fantastic match with one guy doing all the work, besides and this is a common complaint with John but you hear John calling spots which means that John is the ring general which means John's the one really carrying the match, let's just piss you and all the internet marks off

    • @spanishgohome
      @spanishgohome 7 лет назад +1

      Dalee2488 that Cena calls the moves doesn't means nothing, obviously is more expirienced on a wwe ring, but he still looks heavy in every move while AJ (and other talented wrestlers) makes him look strong

    • @jakwhit3068
      @jakwhit3068 7 лет назад +15

      none of what you just said makes sense how can you call the moves and be carried at the same time and saying he looks heavy, hes bloody 6 foot 1 and 250 lbs of muscle, i am so fucking sick of this indie mark bullshit where if you cant do a fucking tope it means you cant wrestle john cena arguably has been the most consistent wwe performer of all time who always puts in his all and with the hundreds of amazing matches hes had over the years its you marks that have the mentality that every opponent hes faced has carried him, thats just absolutely bullshit.

  • @AusMarkus
    @AusMarkus 7 лет назад +81

    I've been thinking since around the mid-to-late 2000's that the main problem with Cena wasn't Cena, but Vince McMahon. McMahon is notoriously risk-averse (excepting perhaps the Attitude Era when WCW gave him no choice lest his get beaten in the Monday Night War, and even then Austin was booked at least as strongly as Cena has been), typically having one guy dominate the roster for an extended period; Sammartino, Hogan, Hart/Michaels (arguably the period that was the biggest exception), Austin, Cena and now Roman Reigns (even if the final word on this is yet to be written). On top of that, he likely wanted Cena to avoid injury as much as possible in order to maximise profit on him, leading Cena to usually only take risks in his matches and stray from the general script when absolutely necessary such as Wrestlemania or a blow-off match to end a major rivalry.
    Cena always deserved to be the guy to carry the company. Should he have had a heel run? Should he have been sharing the spotlight more with other wrestlers? Should he have put over more guys? Should he have taken more risks and had more variety in his matches? I'd say yes. I'd also say that he would have done so had the ones directing him told him to instead of, as I strongly suspect, guiding him to limit the risks he took. He is genuinely one of the all-time greats and only poor and boring booking can make it seem otherwise.

      Markus Flydd dude how long did it take you to type all this

    • @reddeath5791
      @reddeath5791 5 лет назад +3

      Markus Flydd I wish Cena would stay for at least one more year, maybe more, because I want to see him do three things: 1. I want him to turn heel. I feel like it would be historic seeing Cena being a heel. 2. I want to see Cena win the intercontinental championship. It’s the only one he hasn’t one and I wanna see him treat it like he did the US championship. 3. I want him to beat Ric Flair’s WWE championship record. Od rather him end with this feat, then we could have him have a bit of a long reign with it, then we can have some mid-card wrestler challenge Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. It could be a classic underdog story, someone who really looks up to Cena and then has to fight him to become champion, then, when Cena loses and this underdog becomes champion, Cena gives him a respectful handshake and raises his hand. Then Cena can retire from WWE with the beautiful send off he deserves

  • @champthy
    @champthy 7 лет назад +27

    I'm a firm believer that John Cena carried the WWE through some rough times. People sometimes forget that from 2005 to about 2008 WWE was going down any way. A lot of stars were leaving or had already left and some had multiple injuries. John Cena was one of the only wrestlers during that time who 1. Was for the most part not injured and 2. He was over with the fans. Plus you can't blame all of WWE sucking on Cena. Please remember that people gave exactly zero shits about the US, IC, and Women's titles during that time. There is no fucking way that is Cena's fault. Yea after 2008 it went overboard but besides the Nexus and Alex Riley a lot of blame should be put on the WWE itself.

    What John did to help launch Kevin Owens' career was amazing. From the moment Kevin first entered the ring totally without fear, even stomping on the US title belt, to eventually defeating John for the title, I'm sure John realized, as the fans would too, that a star was being born that night.

      it ain't the 80s anymore, the last person to have control over what happens to his character was the Undertaker, and they did it because they trust him in not misusing it. If creative control was related to merch sales.. a lot of people would have had control over their character and the company would be in a constant rehash of Hogan's Hulkamania ego trip.

    Cena gets a lot of heat, but in the end he’s been in a lot of quality matches and he really knows to make his rivals look good. I mean, he knows the spots where he is not good and makes his rivals exploit them. And in the end, that makes him credible as a wrestler.

      I wouldn't say eithet of them are ring generals. That's a term that gets thrown around too often nowadays. Ring generals are MASTERS of constructing a match and could pull out a 5 star classic with a pot of spaghetti if they needed to. Example: Bret Hart dragging a drugged up Davey Boy Smith through a 5 star classic when DBS was barely even aware he was wrestling. That is the mark of a ring general. Two 50 year old men (Taker and Shawn) putting on a 5 star classic in the twilight of their careers is another great example. An argument coule be made now for Edge and Cena being on that level but I wouldn't give them that label as early on in their careers as those mstches took place.

    US Open Challenge, best moments of Raw each and every time it happened, I remember waiting and waiting for one random mid-carder to come and just maybe, win the big one. That's the effect of buiding a Mega-star.

    The US Title Open Challenge was one of the best things to happen to Raw in years and years. It was legit exciting to know every week you were going to see a pretty good-to-great match with someone often unexpected who was gonna get a chance to really bring it. It gave you a reason to watch Raw, which there are very few of.

    As an early 90's kid (30 now) Shawn Michaels, and Undertaker were our heroes. I only got back into wrestling in 2014 since I lost interest in 2001, but I can appreciate John Cena's value to the industry, and how important he is, and I was one of many that would've liked to have finally seen that Cena vs. Taker match at Wrestlemania this year. I would've been happy to see Taker give it up to Cena, cause at the end of the day, he's earned it. I don't hate Reigns, but I still find it hard to find such a legend fall to him.

He's done so much for the company since then, including make stars out of Miz, Cesaro, Sheamus, Daniel Bryan, Sami Zayne, Kevin Owens, and AJ Styles to name a few. Even greats like Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair can't say the same. Not to mention, the man is full time wrestler that puts on fantastic matches REGULARLY!
      Face it, Cena's always been an amazing performer, and as of the last two and a half years, you have absolutely no excuse to dislike John Cena outside of personal preference. Right now, he's arguable the best in ring performer the WWE has.

      @stawg007 7 лет назад +2

      I agree that hes been better than hes been in the past(although maybe thats just because hes not on the show as much anymore) but theres the problem
      Before the last year or so it was burial after burial and even now in his later years he still not doing what he should
      Bray Wyatt should have been him clean at Wrestlemania, killed his momentum
      Rusev should have beat him clean at Wrestlemania, killed his momentum
      and Miz really deserved so much better after the last year he had but no, Cena had to go over for his shitty fake as hell proposal
      As for AJ, yeah he lost a few times, only to beat him in the last encounter for his record breaker and i have no doubt he only lost to The Rock because he knew he was going to come out top the following year
      The guy could put over guys in every match he has for the next few years and it still wont make up for all the harm hes done

      @ryancass2134 7 лет назад

      Ryze Cyanide Mr Kennedy was Randy Orton's victim.

    • @sub-zero6924
      @sub-zero6924 7 лет назад +5

      Over an ending he regretted doing, which a selfish person would not care about..Also he didnt hurt Kennedy that was Randy,and the Alex Riley thing was more a matter of Alex not being respectful backstage which every veteran is pretty much supposed to call out. IF your going to cal out one call out all of the vets whos issues with others have screwed them not just Cena.

    • @ryancass2134
      @ryancass2134 7 лет назад

      Sub - Zero have you heard what Kennedy has said on the situation? he and Randy where good friends they use to ride together, he spoke to Orton after the match and apologies a number of over and over again then after he left the locker room as Cena walked in and next thing he knows he's been released.. as for hurting him, he toted as the next Stone cold and was about to giving a major main event push.. and had it happen he could of been one of the biggest names in wwe. (That is clearly Cena protecting his spot) and with Riley it was him standing up himself after hazing jokes if Cena got offended by that, that is extremely pathetic and not to mention Riley was also toted as a future huge star.. I just find it awfully convenient that a group of guys (A-Ry, Kennedy and Nexus) who could of potential have as if not bigger than Cena all had there WWE runs halted by a decision that Cena made that he supposedly thought was right..

    Almost all these matches were nothing but kick out matches, that's lazy storytelling and bad selling. John cena is bad at selling, he is sloppy in doing moves, does nothing for the majority of the match and can only have a good match when they kick out of three finishers though out the match. John cena has not silenced me, the only match he had that wasn't a kick out fest was cm punk mitb 2011 and the reasons why are highly obvious. During his reign the ratings have decreased, he may be a draw but that's due to longevity, he has basically caused millions of fans to become quote smarks and look for alternatives in the indy scene. He is the most overrated top guy wwe have ever had. He has never draw near he amount that and 16 time champion should have gotten. The fact that he is compared to austin, flair, hogan and sammartino is a travesty he is a lex luger who can talk well that's all.

    • @pedroalmeida912
      @pedroalmeida912 7 лет назад

      It's not John Cena's fault for the run long runs he had, I put Randy in the same basket. After most of the top wrestlers retired or left the company during the period of 2009-2011 I think, there was a lack of top talent and WWE instead of giving other people a chance they left Cena and Orton as champions which led to making the product less entertaining. WWE should have push tguys from the Nexus and a couple more guys to the top card which would give more diversity to the card. The only 2 they gave a chance was THe Miz, he was always good but people only now are realising( and the push failed because of that) it and Cm Punk although he had already won the World Heavyweight champion he wasn't considered by the company a top guy.

    10 years from now someone will make a list called "10 Times Roman Reigns Silenced His Critics". We all may hate him now but the guy will probably be remembered as a great wrestler.

      Maybe. Cena sort of sizzled his way into WWE as the Doctor of Thuganomics, and the heat came after he had put the work in on getting to the top, he just defended that top spot a little too hard.
      I, and many others, hate Roman Reigns because he was put there like a trophy wife and we were told to like him.
      You might be right though.

    That fact about the summerslam losses is very interesting and very much a good way to pay back for burying the nexus

    John Cena vs Cesar is a fucking barnstorm of a match. Almost every one of their matches from 2013 onwards have been brilliant
