Those “new” workstation keyboards are so archaic and outdated with small display, no touchscreen, small storage and memories, etc… they’re still using ‘90s technology when for the same price you can get an Akai MPC Keys or NI Kontrol mk3 with a M4 MacMini (or Intel NUC) that would have 100 times more power and so much better sounds…
Both valid points. I think the workstations are for folks who gig and don't want to bring a mac mini with them. They feel very utilitarian to me "I need a brass patch" "I need a piano sound", etc. Analog/Mono/hardware synths can gig too of course, but they're more specific and unique at times so you bring multiple to the party.
You would also need to add Reaktor or some other kind of digital modular to your setup if you wanted to match this "archaic workstation keyboard". And a fully hardware compatible DX7 because it has that onboard also. And then you'd need a DX7 operator for your digital modular rig as well. If you wanted to match this keyboard. It doesn't end there either because this archaic keyboard has KDFX. Studio quality effects on board the likes of Lexicon and Eventide. So add that to the list. Not really sure if you can buy that ITB. Maybe Eventide Anthology and some reverbs could do it (eventide anthology is $3000 alone nearly). I mean possible I guess but this outdated workstation is rather capable. If you wanted to match it ITB you'd need more than just NI control and an Akai MPC. As for better sounds well better for what? I've heard sounds on this thing that would be more than at home in any high end modern production. A sound either fits your production or it doesn't. Doesn't matter where it comes from.
VAST synthesis which is what this uses, is probably the deepest synthesis there is. Your sound design capabilities are limited to your imagination only. This thing is light years ahead of everything else out there. I’m guessing you’re probably not familiar with a lot of different synthesizers or types of synthesis. Your experience is probably limited to software synthesizers, so you really aren’t familiar with Kurzweil’s or many other hardware synthesizers for that matter.
Doesn’t seem to have SSS which is poor for a synth that cost £3 grand! Considering that the Roland Fantom Yamaha Montage M & the Korg Kronos/Nautilus all have SSS🧐
If they brought the gui and screen, I would jump on board. At this point in life, workstations with top quality screens and amazing gui win. Talking to you Roland and Akai. Lol . Think they put korg and Kuntzweld to shame. Sorry horribly speller. 😂😮
The kurzweil VAST is an advanced system. For example, the K2000 was a very popular synth back in the 90’s … You could compare this with the Nords today. The possibilities are endless …. Of course, some of the sounds are very outdated (imo)… especially the pianos and EP’s. Now these days … it’s more a matter of taste for choosing a Kurzweil (Indeed, menu diving is from the past ). Anyway, this digital synth can sounding analog 😊 . (A beautiful example the song children (Robert Miles))
This Kurzweil fanboy is super pleased to see these finally available. Kurzweil still fill their niche and make us happy!
I’ve been waiting for this. 🔥 Thanks!
Boris Blank & Gerald Donald stuck in an elevator sounds
New workstation? Nice.
Acoustic piano is rather lo-fi.
Love the synth patches.
well I like it

I mean these new analog synths are pretty archaic as well with their limited menus or sometimes no menu at all and sometimes no patch memory.

@@Screaming-Trees But if you want to make a sound from the basics, you have a lot of work to do.and still a small screen.Kureweil we are in 2025

I hope these last longer than PC3 series, cos those fall apart surprisingly quickly.
What are the orchestral strings like? Is there a reasonable sound for strings like the PC3?
WHY IS THE K2088 and the K2700 the same price

So Kurzweil haven’t moved on since the 90’s then. Nothing to see here
Just like all the other workstation makers. And the sky is still blue, too.
At that price and considering that’s the same old thing better buy a k2700 used or even a PC4

well that sounded a bit dreadful.

J'ai rarement entendu une démo aussi mauvaise ...
