Numba1Stunna he was known for being a stone wall and waiting for his opponent to tire out or become frustrated and start slipping up. when they messed up he go for a finishing attack
Nic when he chopped up Anakin I'd say that was alllllll him being intelligent and using his surroundings ... the "I have the higher ground" line is awesome because it shows just how much Kenobi took the situation with Darth Maul and studied it. Obviously Maul was slipping hard Cuz if you have the higher ground .... chop chop
Although he preferred using the force, just like what he said before: "The Sith grew past the use of lightsabers but we continue to use them, if only to humiliate the Jedi."
Agreed, Dooku's use of it was awesome. That's why I liked his duel with Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Yoda in AOTC, because it best shows his use of it in the movies, in my opinion (though I think The Clone Wars showcases his use of the style even better). Obi-Wan went down without Dooku breaking a sweat (he even grinned at times during the whole duel, so it's clear Dooku wasn't taking him seriously), Anakin went down pretty easily too (although he did surprise Dooku at first with his use of the Jar' Kai version of Shii-Cho and then using Shien well with one lightsaber), and while Yoda kept up with him, there were some close calls (there is one scene where Dooku almost hits Yoda while the latter is on his ship, but Yoda jumps off just in time to avoid Dooku's fast and precise strike)
ikr, and even when obi wan was not yet a jedi master, he was still a force to be reckoned with, and dooku took him out without a struggle. Even in revenge of the sith, when obi wan was even more powerful, dooku still made quick work of him.

problem with that is your opponent can just turn there lightsaber off and back on again. the really defensive forms like form 3 are designed so you have your defenses up at all times. a whip wont work at all if your opponent is up close.
He used form 4, and it's implied it's what lead to his death. As he expended to much energy trying to keep up with Darth Maul. It's also one of the reasons Obi-Wan used form 3, a defensive style that expended little energy. He got a first hand lesson on the price of overexerting yourself.

I respect all these styles so much to learn I enjoy this video it makes me feel like implementing some of this stuff in my real life as I practice everyday
I myself have learned juyo and practice it regularly with my brothers, who have become quite adept in forms 1 and 3. I have a duel bladed lightsaber (my preference) and two single bladed lightsabers, one short saber and one standard length. It's really good excercise, with all of the jumping and running involved. However the plastic blades tend to cause bruises when an attack isn't successfully blocked. I've shattered 1 inch thick glass with my lightsaber strikes if that says anything.
Type six, most well rounded from the sound of it and a creative matter of this form would constantly be taking in their surroundings for any and all advantages.
If I was a jedi I would definitely try to master Form II because its the best form for duels, Form III so that i can defend myself during duels, Form V so that I can deflect incoming blaster fire and have powerful counter attacks against siths.
Trakata is the fighting style I would want to learn. (The user turns off the light saber at well timed moments to "pass" through the opponent's saber. And then turns it on again when on the other side.)
Forms 3, 5, and 6 are my jam, but I still really like Form 2 for that fencing style fighting. Dooku was always fun to watch with his supreme fencing ability
Overall, I think one's best bet against a Sith is to sort of "Rocky" it out. Conserve your energy, let them beat on you while you protect yourself with Form 3, and when they grow tired, effortlessly counter and find weak points until you successfully strike their body.
You sadly failed to mention that Vader had a nearly flawless mix of all 7 forms. They were mostly orienting around protecting his control box on his chest.
i might forgo these styles and go for an even older style .. called niten ichi ryu. a style normally using two swords, one short and one long. famous users include its creator Miyamoto Musashi
A.K.A Matt I've also heard form 7 pronounced as "vay-pad". Needless to say, because of how esoteric and geeky lightsaber technique is, I doubt there is any agreement on pronunciation. I only learned about lightsaber technique here on RUclips. Seems like everyone here knows all about it, but I still don't know the sources of all this information.
***** Right, and I think that Rebels has also contributed a lot to that, because unfortunately, we haven't actually seen a lot of Jedi training, just the day in day out process. I'm sure all of that is gone into detail during their instruction and teaching.
I would utilize a combination of Atarua, mikashi, and Vaapad. Making it an an flowing, acrobatic, yet very aggressive style. Also as a side note I would use a short handled (single hand) double bladed light saber. The blades would be slightly shorter than normal to compensate for it being for one handed use as well.
Ataru for acrobatics, Djem So and Shien for attack and defense, and Vaapad bekuz it not only allows u to channel and control your dark side but it also allows you to move faster
SegsyDesigns™ she's technically classified as a grey Jedi. She never completed her training, and is neither part of the order or the sith but is still part of the light side of the force.
Niman too me is my favorite. You take the best parts of the form and tailor it to your own needs and wants. My choices will be makashi blade flow & footwork combine with the speed, power, and dexterity of ataru, and use soresu as a counter measure for defense and attack.
I would use sorry as the basis of my firm mixed with Malachi and djem so. soresu would allow me to fend off an opponent's attacks to study their form and then I could use either the light and careful strikes of Malachi or the heavy power attacks of djem so, whichever would work better.
Btw, Ben/obi-wan kenobi decided to add shii chi to his fighting style because he was getting old after order 66 and his body was getting slower than it was, but his mind and connection to the force only got stronger so he was able to defeat opponents almost flawlessly.
Djem So was also used by Darth Bane it was the first for he was taught and the only reason he was able to hold his own against any of his Sith teachers specifically his lightsaber training teacher during his duel.
It's a very informative video, however there are things I might add. Soresu wasn't difficult just because you needed to learn how to find and use the fault's in your opponent's defenses, it was also difficult, because you had to use the lightsaber blade very cose to your own body. A very strong Djem So user could break defeat and kill an inexperienced Soresu user, if their attacks were strong enough. That's what would've happened to Darth Bane's apprentice, who - although was a master of Form III - wasn't physically strong enough against her opponent. The point is, you had to constantly focus on your bladework in Soresu, one misstep and you were done for. The other thing, is that Shien and Djem So weren't stages of Form V, they were separate techniques and were developed differently. The first one to be developed of the two was Shien. Some early users of Soresu disliked the overly defensive style, but didn't want to sacrifice protection like Form IV: Ataru did. They developed Shien, which was more like used as a passive-aggressive style. You see, Soresu isn't meant to redirect blaster fire against the enemy, it just meant to protect the user. Shien was the one to train the Jedi to redirect blaster, so even overwhelming enemyforces could be held at bay. Djem So however was developed later, when lightsaber duels were common place (perhaps in the New Sith Wars, when Darth Bane risen to power). It meant to overpower enemies with brute strength, however the user was skilled to effectively defend him/herself, but it was meant more as an agressive style. You also forgot about Jar'kai. Although it was more like a preference then a separate lightsaber form, it's the lightsaber form utilising two lightsabers at once (or dual wielding if you would like to name it). It, however was an advanced style, and it recquired the use of Form VI: Niman, sometimes even it's mastery. Form VII was aways an agressive style, bordering the Dark side and madness. It was lost to the Jedi for this specific reason, after the deveopment of Vaapad, it was a complete form once again. It was forbidden of course, and I really like how only Windu is considered - the developer of the form - master of it. His padawan, Depa Billapa also mastered it, however the War destabilized her mentally and had fallen to the Dark side. But that only happened during the Clone Wars, however, by then she was a master of the form. Vaapad of course differed from Juyo, and that can be seen in the duel between Windu and Sidious. Some say it was just Sidious's acting, however I dare say Vaapad had a better defense. Juyo relied on speed to cover it's problem - it lacked on defensive moves, while Vaapad was developed to protect the user as well. It was a better style in my opinion and was the reason Windu defeated the Dark Lord - too bad Anakin had to be there...
Ataru for sure, the quick movements and flips, while also being combined with a dual sabre, like Ahsoka, can be very dangerous indeed for my enemy. Makashi, Due to the almost symphonic, smooth, clear movements, which allows a swing back, although can be very weak, for which I would use Soresu to counter block any swings sent at me. The combonation of these three I think would be extremely deadly.
form 2 through form 7, depending on the situation i am in, the reasons why, form 2 is a fencing that focus on lightsaber to lightsaber combat(plus i am good with Parry), form 3 like u say is all defensive form that use little to no energy, form 4 to end the fight with the quick brust, form 5 counterattack and heavy blows, form 6 "jack-of-all-trades" plus use duel blade to cover more ground, and form 7 (Mace Windu style) turn dark energy against my opponent.
Mainly form 2, pulling elements from 3 and 4 to defend against blaster fire and better mobility. Dooku was one of the best lightsaber duelist in the galaxy only rivalled by Yoda and Windu so mastering his form would be pretty good.
I propose a New Form - Form 8 - A From akin to use of a Rapier. With the way the Lightsaber is designed, it doesn’t matter how you cut because it’s a full 360 Degree Plasma Blade. Quick successive Jabs such as seen with a Rapier, would be deadly especially for one with great Agility. The way the Stance is so that you can keep your Distance from your Opponent so you’re not putting yourself at too much Risk
I would focus on Form VII, as it is a most efficient technique to fend off dangerous opponents and enemies. Thusly, I could provide better protection for those who are too weak to defend themselves. And I would put equally ammounts of focus on Form III, to be able to perform a high level of defensive capabilities. Mixed together, a duelist would be really difficult to defeat. However, I would study all forms very thoroughly, as you can never have to much knowledge and skills.
I would try to master form 3 and 6. Makashi would be cool to do as well, as it is similar to fencing, witch I did before my crippling anxiety forced me to stop.
form 1 and 2 are form's I would learn to some extent, form's 4 and 6 will be a style I use for combat as they focus on agility, speed, and adaptability to the opponent's, but form 7 will be my main form style's since it's for the top tear of Jedi to master and is custom made
i would have to choose 7 because even though it is costly to the welder it is also a vary powerful fighting style and i should know because i practice 3 times a week for 7 hours a day with a katana.
If I had force abilities I would constantly be putting them to use in all aspects of combat so there you go. Likely I would also dabble in 3/5 though because I would want to disable any other blade wielding opponent by cutting off a limb or simply rendering them unconscious.
I think I'd have to learn a more defensive technique because I already use Ataru and juyo. I'm a small guy so I use unrelenting explosive aggressive and speed in combat. My greatest problem is my speed throws off my balance.
Form 6, Niman. But I'd mutate it to include techniques of Makashi (which is absent from the initial hybrid), and Juyo/Vapaad. Just because I can't really be arsed to choose just one. Jack of all trades, and all that.
So from the information gathered, a Jedi could be known to be capable in multiple forms switching between them according to the situation, but, even the Jedi who were proficient in multiple forms still focused their training to only one form that would become their area of expertise, and mastery.
commenting on an old video, but I just realized that the 1st style, Shii-Cho, sounds very similar to the Korean word Shi Cho, which means the beginning or the start.
Ataru is more for me. I'm kinda short and after seeing what Yoda can do with it, it looks like the most suited for me.( Love these videos about the lightsaber forms).
More than likely for me form 3 or form 7 or attempt a blend of both so subtle blocking and deflecting then draw into the inner darkness for countering and making powerful, fast advances.
Shi Cho, Makashi, Soresu, Ataru, Shien/Djem So, Niman, and Juyo/Vaapad all seven classical lightsaber forms although Sokan, Trakata, and Jarkai among others have there uses too on average Teres Kasi on a great scale is a great unarmed combatic style to fall back on in case something goes a certain way.
Technically Sokan, Trakata, and Jarkai aren't really forms in and of themselves. They are simply the art of using different lightsaber designs or modifying existing forms. Sokan was just a modified take on Form 4, Trakata is simply turning off your lightsaber mid combat and can be seen as belonging to Form Six jack of all trades style , And lastly Jarkai is simply wielding two lightsabers at a time and can be seen as fitting in with Form 4 and Form 5 and Form 7 more aggressive take on combat .
It was Qui-Gon who mastered Ataru and developed his deft skills in the Force to focus his Darker emotions into what would become Vapaad. Qui-Gon used to be a Jedi Inquisitor like Windu until he became a Master to a Padawan.
Judging by what you wrote I would say use Ataru, makashi is all about economy of motion and simple but effective and precise footwork and movements. You said you would use dance movements, that sounds like a lot of acrobatics and moving around constantly. I am no dancer so take my analysis on dance movements with a pinch of salt. Ataru moves around constantly and unpredictably, as does juyo. Makashi is the opposite of that and wants to conserve energy which moving around unpredictably does not.
@@egzabiheryemsgen4982 Since the publishing of this comment I have began to use Juyo as my main combat form, thank you for the input. Juyo works much better for me.
in my personal opinion, i think the best duelist would use a combination of makashi, soresu, and djem-so, at least those are the three id go with, makashi for its intricate blade work and its economy of motion for saving energy, djem-so to counter what makashi lacks in kinetic energy and strength, and a solid foundation of soresu to fall back on
The strongest lightsaber form is the high ground.
Where's The Lamb Sauce lol
I'M NIIIIIIINNNNOOOOO

I love that mace windu specializes in the one form that requires furious anger.

Now I just imagine mace windu in Pulp Fiction
After all, he has "had it with these motherfucking Sith in this motherfucking Senate!"
He has to be able to strike down all those who attempt to poison and destroy his brothers.
That's why he has a purple blade a mix of red and blue.
Obi-Wan not only mastered, but was so powerful in his form of combat (soresu I think) that he WAS THE MASTER of the form...!!!!

I would love to see one of the more defensive forms used with a light whip. that would be incredibly interesting to see
Wouldn't work, you can't use the whip to block as it has no structure.
Brandon Teeter no, but you could entangle and ensnare your opponent's weapon, and possibly disarm them
Sam Guglin That is still offensive then.
Brandon Teeter no, that would be a parry and then a riposte

As always love the video. I would like a count dooku's lightsaber
Forms 3, 5, and 6 are my jam, but I still really like Form 2 for that fencing style fighting. Dooku was always fun to watch with his supreme fencing ability
sor-e-su
Muh Kah Shi
Gem-So
so much cringe
Shade's Archives he said this video took forever but couldn't learn the correct pronunciation? How long does that really take?
Shade's Archives part of it is probably accent
Shade's Archives I feel the same every time he said them wrong I was yelling at my screen
You guys are mega nerds what the fuck, you guys are even worse than the guy crying over a teaser.
what did Luke use?
Dr Cakes all 7
D:Rock 007 legends or cannon?
Dr Cakes in legends from what know, he learned and mastered all of them. idk how canon plays it.
D:Rock 007 I love this community. try checking out stupendous wave. he's just like this guy but goes into depth more.
Dr Cakes In the current canon, when Luke dough Vader in Return of the Jedi, he probably knew a bit of Shii-cho and copying off of Vader's Form 5.
Overall, I think one's best bet against a Sith is to sort of "Rocky" it out. Conserve your energy, let them beat on you while you protect yourself with Form 3, and when they grow tired, effortlessly counter and find weak points until you successfully strike their body.
I'd primarily want to master Nimon and secondarily Juyo-Vopad to overwhelm my opponent when needed.
come on...!!! this guy reads it directly from the book of the jedi code.. no research no nothing!!
There is research.... in the book.
And then says Nimbile instead of Nimble. OOF
Sounds like a good source to me. Assuming it’s Canon.
Haha this all started by a movie
Jbhh U6uikm and?
Daddy I Said Stop why? Calm down
You sadly failed to mention that Vader had a nearly flawless mix of all 7 forms. They were mostly orienting around protecting his control box on his chest.
i might forgo these styles and go for an even older style .. called niten ichi ryu. a style normally using two swords, one short and one long. famous users include its creator Miyamoto Musashi
the way you say soresu is a bit weird
He says Soar Su
Most people would say Sor e Su
A.K.A Matt His overall pronunciation is weird. He say "arc-rival", "in-famous", etc.
Jeffrey Mao ah
Darth reven used form 6
Graham Mandryk ok
I would utilize a combination of Atarua, mikashi, and Vaapad. Making it an an flowing, acrobatic, yet very aggressive style. Also as a side note I would use a short handled (single hand) double bladed light saber. The blades would be slightly shorter than normal to compensate for it being for one handed use as well.
Ataru for acrobatics, Djem So and Shien for attack and defense, and Vaapad bekuz it not only allows u to channel and control your dark side but it also allows you to move faster
this guy can't even pronounce the form names right.
Skillitself369 - It’s likely his accent.
ahsoka tano was never a jedi!?!?!;
SegsyDesigns™ she was an apprentice turned rogue
KidTechno exactly
Yo, where did you learn all of this?! This is really detailed information!
I'd probably use Niman and have my own mix of mainly ataru and djem so and maybe throw in a little bit of Makashi.
I would also utilize basic force pushes between my attacks, when performing Seresu, or coming out of the defense, to disturb the enemy.
form 2 through form 7, depending on the situation i am in, the reasons why, form 2 is a fencing that focus on lightsaber to lightsaber combat(plus i am good with Parry), form 3 like u say is all defensive form that use little to no energy, form 4 to end the fight with the quick brust, form 5 counterattack and heavy blows, form 6 "jack-of-all-trades" plus use duel blade to cover more ground, and form 7 (Mace Windu style) turn dark energy against my opponent.
Mainly form 2, pulling elements from 3 and 4 to defend against blaster fire and better mobility. Dooku was one of the best lightsaber duelist in the galaxy only rivalled by Yoda and Windu so mastering his form would be pretty good.
Makashi with a bit of Djem So/ Shien
I propose a New Form - Form 8 - A From akin to use of a Rapier. With the way the Lightsaber is designed, it doesn’t matter how you cut because it’s a full 360 Degree Plasma Blade. Quick successive Jabs such as seen with a Rapier, would be deadly especially for one with great Agility. The way the Stance is so that you can keep your Distance from your Opponent so you’re not putting yourself at too much Risk
I am still training my Lightsaber abilities. I like to use soreso mostly.
Makashi would be cool to do as well, as it is similar to fencing, witch I did before my crippling anxiety forced me to stop.
form 1 and 2 are form's I would learn to some extent, form's 4 and 6 will be a style I use for combat as they focus on agility, speed, and adaptability to the opponent's, but form 7 will be my main form style's since it's for the top tear of Jedi to master and is custom made
Form 5 for me, tho with a touch of 4 and also a little more towards 3, when it comes to the defensive part.
i would have to choose 7 because even though it is costly to the welder it is also a vary powerful fighting style and i should know because i practice 3 times a week for 7 hours a day with a katana.
If I had force abilities I would constantly be putting them to use in all aspects of combat so there you go. Likely I would also dabble in 3/5 though because I would want to disable any other blade wielding opponent by cutting off a limb or simply rendering them unconscious.
I would have likely gone with form two as my primary with form three as a good supplement. Just a perfect economy of motion and technique.
I would like to use a combination of the 3 and 7 form, which would be good at offense and defense
I would master juyo, aggressive and deadliest form, and Djem So, Just counter-attacking, that would be badass
commenting on an old video, but I just realized that the 1st style, Shii-Cho, sounds very similar to the Korean word Shi Cho, which means the beginning or the start.
Ataru is more for me. I'm kinda short and after seeing what Yoda can do with it, it looks like the most suited for me.( Love these videos about the lightsaber forms).
A good base in form V and form VI but specializing in VII with an efficacious use of the tràkata technique.
Could you please make a vid on the droid foundations the CIS and Trade Federation?
Form 3 I like counter attacks they are the key to fighting
Nice video, I'd go with form 5 because of defense or seven because of the offense.
Brigadier Badger 79 Djem So is heavily offensive...
More than likely for me form 3 or form 7 or attempt a blend of both so subtle blocking and deflecting then draw into the inner darkness for countering and making powerful, fast advances.
I would master style III (Soresu) because u defensive with it and mostly deflect bolts to tin cans :D
Forms I and II are best suited for me simple, graceful, yet very deadly.
Anikin duel weilds like a beast. What form was that.
Vapod would be my type cause I have quite a lot of anger and I have in fighting games a very offensive type of combat
It was Qui-Gon who mastered Ataru and developed his deft skills in the Force to focus his Darker emotions into what would become Vapaad. Qui-Gon used to be a Jedi Inquisitor like Windu until he became a Master to a Padawan.
I have become very good with Makashi, although I am very cocky in my movements, I mix it up and use the "dance movements" to confuse my opponent.
Juyo works much better for me.
in my personal opinion, i think the best duelist would use a combination of makashi, soresu, and djem-so, at least those are the three id go with, makashi for its intricate blade work and its economy of motion for saving energy, djem-so to counter what makashi lacks in kinetic energy and strength, and a solid foundation of soresu to fall back on
Form 7 because I do have a inner darkness that if like Mace, I could even channel it out. I also would not mind having a edge over my opponent.
I would choose from three, because we have seen the best defense beat the best offense many times. (Cough) Obi Wan vs Darth Maul on Naboo
