I have always dreamed of working in the floral design industry for weddings but was convinced to go to college for a more “stable” career & now here I am years later still wanting to work with them! How do you suggest approaching a local florist to be a mentor? I’m nervous they would not be open to it considering I would eventually be their competition in the area. Thanks!
Hi Haley! I would make a list of all the people you dream of working for. Start with the 1st one and reach out one by one. If you don't hear from one, go on to the next one! It never hurts to reach out. Many well known floral designers I know, still freelance at times with other florists! Summer wedding season, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, and the holiday season are all great times to freelance with a florist as they often need temporary help during that time. I hope that helps!
