    ABOUT VEDANTA
    Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
    ABOUT US
    Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

      @MM-dh3wr He intended to convey that only God exists; nothing else is real. God is the sole truth; everything else is false. God exists distinctly from everything and also manifests as the universe through Maya, like the blue hue of the sky or the silver in mother of pearl. Various colored clouds drift across the sky but never truly touch it; similarly, this world emerges and fades within God without truly impacting Him. God was not created, there is no inception in Him. He is eternal, uncreated, and omnipresent. He transcends time, space, and causation. As per cosmology, when time commences, the universe comes into being, but there is no time in God; He surpasses time. He is timeless, where everything converges.

    As far as I can see, Advaita has two parts. First they tell you the whole thing in one go: You are It. And after that, they tell it to you again and again and again in many different ways, and ad nauseam, until you finally get it into your head. They have a million stories about it, all with the same plot, but different decorations... there's no wonder, they had thousands of years spent in caves with no WiFi to come up with them. In this stuff, wherever you are, look down and you's see the footprints of a Sadu.

      @@Nonconceptuality Stopping the flow of thoughts in your head is easy. Everybody does it. How? Well, when you listen to your favorite piece of Classical music, let's say some Bach, does your mind go bla-bla -bla at you? Of course not. You are busy listening to something. The thoughts have stopped. Now listen to everything like that. It can be done.

    • @Nonconceptuality
      @Nonconceptuality 2 месяца назад +6

      @Greengate777 That process has nothing to do with Spiritual practice. One is simply trading one distraction for another. One must shift attention away from thoughts and sensations to find the stillness; the frame of reference upon which all experience arise and pass.
      It is the Self

    • @Greengate777
      @Greengate777 2 месяца назад +6

      @@Nonconceptuality I know that. I gave you a key to easy meditation. It worked for me. As far as the other thing, you are correct. In my case was a simple decision and a recognition. The decision was to stop listening to my own BS. No more what if's, just what is. Every time the mind comes up with a scenario, you ask two questions: Is it here, and is it now? If the answer is no to any of those two, you dismiss the whole thing. That was the decision. The realisation is that the mind is not you, it is a mere tool at your disposal. A chatty tool, but a tool nonetheless.

    28:52 While it's true that I cannot step outside consciousness, I hope you would agree that using this consciousness I can imagine a time when there were no conscious observers but the universe existed nonetheless, which in other words would mean that the universe existed at a certain time on its own, and would perhaps besiege the argument that the universe exists only as a projection of my consciousness.
    The real argument that points to the fact that the universe is nothing but a projection of my own consciousness is somewhat more subtle and stems from quantum field theory. Everything in the universe is built out of excitations on the vacuum state of some theory of everything. Together they form a separate vector from the vector of the vacuum state. However in Hilbert space they happen to just be two vectors that are related by rotation. The vacuum state vector is akin to a rope and the universal vector to a snake, the shift of perspective that transforms the snake to the rope is like the rotation in Hilbert space. Now the particles in your body are also made out of excitations on the vacuum state and hence you too are akin to another vector different from the above two. Enlightenment is when you realise that you too are related to them via rotations. Thus from one perspective you are none other than the vacuum state, and from another perspective you are one with the universe. It is in this sense that the universe has been projected out of you.
    Now one may ask what is Brahman in all this, and the answer is it is the stuff of vacuum state as well as the other two vectors above, just as water is the stuff of the ocean when it is completely still as well as when it is completely choppy.

    I didn't read Bhagvadgeeta on my own even though you advised that one must read Bhagvadgeeta Geeta on one's own before listening to lectures because I think you're lectures are treasure to me.
    Please do ashtavakra geeta.
    I know that there are selected verse on which you gave lectures but would like if you do complete Ashtavakra Geeta.

      actually ashtavakra and Vashista shouldn't be taught to general public as per Thakur i.e. ramkrishna paramhamsa, it is more suitable to monks. So its better to be happy what little we are getting.

      @@sumitdutta7043 Infact I agree to you but nonetheless Swamiji taught Mandukya that's also for monks.
      Even I searched for Ashtavakra Geeta and there are complete lectures by Osho and Sandeep Maheshwari but those are no where close to how Swami ji preaches.
      Maybe I am over demanding but I want that to be taught by none other than Swamiji.

      He gave some lectures on Ashtavakra too, not quite many thought.
      This year he is doing more of Yoga Vashista.
