Yes John it did. it turned first gear into a usable gear. It did not change the way the bike moved from a dead stop. Fourth was now the same as the old fifth. Fifth was more comfortable as the engine did not buzz. The bike was not faster, nor did the mileage change. Just more comfortable. I did not have to change anything because of the exhaust. You just have to make sure you end up with the same back pressure you had before. Putting a high quality chain on was a big improvement. It did not have to be adjusted all the time. I keeper the chain clean and well oiled.
I didn't understand anything he was talking about since I don't know English and I wrote this using the Google translator, but I must say that your motorcycle is more than incredible and I envy you. I'm going to buy a V Star and I want it to look the same as yours, although I would change the handlebars. Congratulations on such a wonderful motorcycle.
Really nice job. I think this bike is awesome !! I especially like the retro-themed paint. I'm surprised how good the bike sounds at idle. I have a Road Star (1700) but recently got a KLR 650. Now tiny little bikes like 250s and the SR400 have piqued my interest. I like the idea of the V-Twin 250 but the Rebels are also an option as is a Royal Enfield.
I did not have to change anything. I played around with the baffle to get the right sound and keep the back pressure. The sprocket Change was a good thing.
You have certainly personalized your machine nicely. Those strips, the green and the exhaust wrap give the bike a whole different look. Those tires do look quite agressive. Do they create any buzz on the highway? Must be great on those dirty wet backroads. Those reflective jackets work well, Having mine on I notice people having second looks which make me to believe I am noticed more. Those extended signal lights look good. I would think you can see them easier on the front looking down than the stock flat ones. Do you notice the gear ratio changes making a big difference in vibration at highway speed. It really helped smooth things out on my 250. I live in the mountains so I only went to 17/42 which seems to work perfectly to have a decent RPM in 4th at 100 km/hr climbing those steeper mountain pass grades. Cheers
When it comes time for a shock change I will look into the options. There are a lot of things you can do, but make sure you do not change the ride height.
They were ready from the box. Easy to put on, but I had to get a pair of 1 3/4 by 9 inch baffles. The baffles are in out in style. I wrapped the out side of them with fiber glass cloth. I should have videoed doing it as it is sort of difficult to describe. Nice sound.
Thanks for uploading your videos, especially this one. I have a v star 250, and decided to customize it as I grow as a rider. It's my first bike, and my first time trying something this mechanical (I usually build computers, not bikes!). There's not a lot of videos with our bike, so thanks for sharing. This week, I will install my luggage rack. Next on the list is to change the drive to 17/40 and get an o ring chain. One day I will get saddlebags, then I will paint it something special. Noob question: How did changing your exhaust affect performance? I'm still in the process of learning and I haven't gotten that far in my "studies". I can definitely hear the difference.
Hey Erik, nice job, even though you you did not like the paint work that much....the West eagle pipes make all the difference in the cool factor. I like the crow, 0;32 and buzzing you on the test ride later in the vid..lolo
If you still have the bike did you ever have to rejet the carbs or do any valve adjustments. I own a 2014 v star 250 and have started bobbing it. I have two other bikes a 1300 yamer hammer and an 1100 silversmith yamer hammer but I still love playing around on the 250 it has keystone handle bars and I'm about to get the pipes
Hey Erik, bike looks great. I just ordered the same west eagle pipes for my 2008 V star 250. Were you able to get away with not having to rejet the carb? Thanks in advance.
How about putting a belly pan same color with the tank? The bags makes it more good. I agree by putting a thermal wrap. But the tire, do you go off-road to?
@@higg4209 unfortunately I do not still have mine. I left my captain position at Copa Airlines in 2016. It was too expensive to import the motorcycle into the USA, so I was forced to sell it. I only was able to get 2500.00 for it. I loved that bike!
@@ford120tractor ahh, at least you'll have enjoyable memories of riding. To repeat one of the quotes in Bikerdom, 'it's one of cheapest forms of therapy'. Much luck to you and all.
Great sound, Erik. Where did you find the sissy bar? I've got a 2013. Love it. But, time to start making some changes. I've been looking and haven't had any luck.
Cool updates man!! I have a Virago 250 too...I´m restoring it... I´ll put 17T x 38T and a real exhaust too...like yours. I´ll open engine to change clutch discs and make a visual inspection to other engine issues because my model is 97. A big problem about Viragos is the rear shock system. I´m thinking about replace the original with some gas shock (nitrogen) like RFY from china market. What do you think about?
The exhaust did not make a big difference HP. The stock engine only make 14 hp so even if you got 20% increase, that would only add 3 hp. So no there was not a big increase. But it does sound nice! No the tire do not vibrate. The ride actually got better and breaking is better too.
I have a Virago 250... Strange to see that you wrapped the back exhaust pipe, as it is not hooked up to the rear cylinder and does not even get hot. It is a show piece. The exhaust from that cylinder goes down a hidden pipe, and feeds into the main exhaust below. I was kind of bummed out that Yamaha would put on an exhaust pipe for show.
The bike is pretty nice... What the dimensions of the scape? 3/7? I'm Brazilian and I don't find this here. So I'll ask some professional to build it. Thank you! Great bike!!
Yes the original stock pipes include a catalytic converter. The rear exhaust hoes down to the converter then enters the silver pipes. The rear pipe is fake.
I bought the turns signals from a triumph bonnivlle. just take of the old ones off and put the new one on. you might need to drill a little, and change the wire plug ends. not too hard to do.
Erik Lund Would a Triumph Bonneville tail light assembly be an easy enough swap? When you say the turn signals, was it the full signal/tail light assembly off of a T-100? I love the look and how it allows more room for bags. Thanks!
I just mentioned to someone else that another reviewer is 6'2". He loves it and looks fine. Go look at one and have a buddy or person selling it take your picture?
Nice sound, but I'm confused, you said you used 1 3/4" baffles but the link says 1-3/7" drag pipes. Could you share a link to the same baffles? Thanks for sharing
That's the best sounding 250 Vtwin I've ever heard.
3:49 mark for the exhaust. You’re welcome

I didn't know a 250 could sound this well. I have a 2013 vstar, would love to mod it after seeing this 👍

Nice job and nice sound with those pipes!!
That paint job looks pretty good to me. 👍

Boggles my mind how that little 250 sounds meaner that what my bone stock V-Star 650 did. The bike in this vid sounds bad ass. regardless of size!
She sounds proper !
That's a proper sounding bike. I am trying to decide between the Honda Rebel 250 and the vStar 250.
Thanks for the video. Sounds like it needs mufflers. I like the white shorty helmet too. Looking forward to more videos.
Good job. Good to see a Hi-Viz jacket. Stay well.
What a great little bike...
Damn, you’ve done an awesome job! Sounds great too. Nice looking bike.

The gear change slowed the engine down at top speed. 4th gear is the same as 5th used to be. 5th is like an overdrive.
i really like what you did here

I can go about 240 miles on one tank of gas. I fill up when I have 200 miles on the trip odometer.
what did you do wit the instrument panel neutral.indicator,hb light box and by the way thats a beauty of a bike
Dakota yes it will. The Vstar 250 has been the same since the 80s.
Looks good nice job
Coyote, I got lucky. The sound was right the second time I tried a baffle. I think the fiberglass exhaust stuffing Helped a lot.
Sounds great
Awesome! Love my V star!
Hi Erik, looks great with those tires. Which is the brand?
They were an off brand tire that I bought in Quito Ecuador.
Nice exhaust sound

Sounds amazing. I'd love to know where can I get those pipes and also the rear stop light with its directionals. Good job
Looks awesome!
This video was a while ago. The bike was a 2012. I was living in Panama then

Sounds good

What did the gear ratio change do?
Did the top speed change and is the bike solid topped out?
Thanks,

Great sound, Erik. Where did you find the sissy bar? I've got a 2013. Love it. But, time to start making some changes. I've been looking and haven't had any luck.

Where can I find a set of pipes like yours 🤔🤔 I bought a 2003 that has 2.500 miles on it, part number would help any information, thank you
