Well done for not giving up! they are a different breed.. save the Tamiya tires for a warm day on an asphalt track.. small carpet track.. you need all the grip you can get.. so.. Exotek silvers on the rear.. double red on the front.. they will widen your track also.. next.. start loosening some screws.. these things need to flex.. the center adjustment screw in the t-bar: take it out.. top deck screws, take out the two 'optional' posts first and go from there.. job one is to generate enough traction.. preferably to where it starts to traction roll.. once you get to that point.. glue on the fronts just like any other car on carpet.. we run lap times that are the same as the fastest GT12s with these! enjoy the journey.. should make for good content.. let's get to where Mark wants to try it 😎
I’ve raced F1 since the F102 days, and what everyone is saying about tires is 100% top. Indoors or outdoors, foam tires are king. Ten years ago, we decided to make it more difficult by using rubber compound for outdoor, and that had a bit of a learning curve, but we’re back to almost the same speeds. The Tamiya stock tires have vinyl consistency for longevity, so they really belong in the shelf or in the bin.
I just put together my Mercedes C11, and the foam tires it came with are ridiculously grippy. I was able to figure 8 on ceramic tiles with ease. I can't wait to get it outside on asphalt.
@ericbloodsmith5161 we have a C11 coming to the channel very soon
Good to see you, Pit man Dave . You should listen to him mate he knows his stuff 😂
Well done for persevering. The F104 Pro II is a lovely car to drive once properly set up on the right tyres for your track. A well set-up F104 has all the nimbleness of a GT12 combined with the straight line stability of a TC. You have been given some excellent advice so far as to how to achieve this. All that I would add is that you might want to put an o-ring on the top of your friction damper post to stop the spring retainer from loosening and disappearing mid-race. 😁
That's what we all like about the hobby trying out new stuff to see where we would like to be in the hobby. It good to be able to learn something different from the usual easy stuff that'll test your skills a bit more.
"Keep on keeping on" boy's we love all the challenges it's good for the hobby.
😊😊😊😊😊
Foam tyres; loose the grease off the friction plate; make the diff slightly looser; unscrew the rear pod slightly; 300cst in the shock
Good on ya Carl for trying out different cars that`s what its all about.
As others have said, tyres are the biggest difference with F1s. For club racing just get a set of foams and you'll have all the grip you need. If you've got to run rubber then Schumacher s Shimizu 571 and 575 tyres go well on carpet.
I thing you could change few things off the bat and try again at other night
1)Have look different tyre compounds from Volante
Buy few compounds see what works best on the carpet for you and your setup
2) play with centre spring tension or replace the shock with adjustable trf shocks for on the fly adjustment
3)have play with your ball diff setting
I say loosen it up a 1/4 turn off at time
4) and power setting on esc
But best thing would change away from tamiya tyres are they not the best more display or summer day tyres than use on carpet
Nice to see you getting into the F1 chassis, I have one also and I can not wait to try it this summer outside
Get foam tires for it.
Those F1 cars do take a lot of tweaking to get them setup right, and that track isn't best suited to them either, especially if you're using the kit tyres. Pitman Dave is a legend, really nice bloke too, listen to what he has to say ;)
Soft compound foam tires and it’ll be 90% dialed, then throw on a sport tuned motor
I've encountered traction issues with even my AWD touring cars and it's primarily come down to the track carpet and tires; some carpet is AWFUL and gums up tires quickly. Regardless, once I find a good tire for the carpet, I clean them with Zippo lighter fluid after every outing.
I was never able to get mine right, thought I was going to be a blast. On right hands rear end would just disappeared.
Are you using the Tamiya tyres? Maybe use the current F1 class tyres and it might grip properly.
F1, the F stands for......fun? 😂
Good times! 👍
The tires. They are the culprit for the bad handling. I have Tamiya RM01 1/12 pan car. It handles like crap and oversteers on every corner on a bumpy painted concrete.
(yes that's how horrible my local track is)
When I put tire additive on the back end it handles like its on rails but understeers.
When I put tire additives on both front and rear, it becomes oversensitive on the steering.
When add additives 1/4 on the front and full at the back, handles okay.
Yes the tires. It makes the difference between being crappy and dialed in.
I've turned over to watch 3 2 1 with Ted Rogers now. That Dusty Bin would be an ideal place for this car.Its a ..look what you could have never won anything with car.Youve been Smashing contenders, lets have a nice round of applause from the audience, didnt he not do well ,nice to never see it again, nice.Anthea ,Anthea give us a Twirl.. lol✌️
Bin for that. What good is power if you can't put it down on the track?
Needs more weight on the rear tires (like 20grams). And a bigger rearwing and smaller frontwing. And only additive on the rear rotate start. Then youll be fine
I had the same issue with an f103, the car is too light so needs weight adding to it.
Hello, just try Foam Tyres and you will be happy.
i really love it. Tire´s matter. With the right ones its day and night. the originals are for the bin....
Get some EXOTEK red fronts and double red rears tires and wheels. You won't regret it.
The Tamiya kit tyres on those are not great. As many others have said, try foams and it will drive nice :)
❤❤❤
Try Tamiya's 4x4 F1 car👍
Are they really that hard to drive?😂
Those pro drivers going round an indoor track like angry bee's , definitely boring , not fun like my 8th scale different assortment of Hoboa rally cars , on road track cars , buggys & truggys 🤣🤣🤣 .
Caped tires…
They are the coolest cars, but every one I see drives awful, why?
Welcome to the world of f1 they are terrible to get going properly
Looks terrible probably better of with the xray F1 car or stick with the LMP pan cars.
So you think it's a car make issue, over just a setup issue. Like that Xray F1 is gonna perform better without glued tires etc? lol
@tm5123 I like the look of the new TRF coming out, but for me, Tamiya is a nostalgia car. All cars need to be set up some more than othersand for different conditions. Im not that dumb I like nitro buggies and cars thats my thing, but I enjoy the channel, so I watch their videos.
I really don't know what to say other than what's ya fastest pit stop. Its a thrilling time if ya stopped.Thats Firmly what formula one is good for.Any mechanic can take a wheel off fast with them special pnuemagic drill gun thingy wheel undoers. All the skill has gone out driving these days.Get a proper car.✌️👎
