It deters pests such as slugs, cabbage moth caterpillars, chipmunks, voles, mice, asparagus beetles, and aphids! This mix has saved my garden. It also works as a foliar fertilizer. This is a modified garlic spray anyone can make at home. Inspired by the great Paul Gautschi of Back to Eden, tweaked to fit my growing zone.

I forgot to stress how GREAT this worked against asparagus beetles. There is not a single beetle or larvae on my patch that's been infested for years!
Pennyroyal is, similar to mint, and is an excellent insect deterrent. A plug of the cheapest chewing tobacco is, also an effective addition, and a a cc of cinnamon oil per liter is another good feeding deterrrent.
There's probably a bunch of plants out there doing this. I like walking around and seeing what the pests prefer and what they don't. I learned slugs love thistles. Aphids love docks.
Thanks! I got peach leaf curl and apple leaf curl. Can’t wait to try this.
Not saying it's the cure..but it sure made a difference in my trees. I refuse to use any sprays from the store. I'll be hitting the trees with this in the fall and early spring. I'm testing this mix every way possible. I believe there's much more it can do! I was just trying to stop slugs and ended up finding many ways this can help.
Thanks for sharing. I will have to try this as I have way to many slugs around here.
I caught thousands last night but none were on my plants!
Ty!
Thanks for watching and hope this helps!
Im so happy I found your channel. I like how you are straight to the point.
I always look to see if there is replys back to people that wrote a comment.
I see you reply.
I really like that. Lol
I subscribed and have been binged listening to you all morning while I'm out in the garden.
I'm making this mixture up now. You said to let it sit for 3 days.
My questions are..
Can I start spraying to prevent the bugs?
I'm just getting plants in the garden now.
How often can I spray everything.
Like once a week?
How long can it brew for before using it. As in
Will it go bad in the bucket
Great videos
Cheers from Toronto 🇨🇦
Give the liquid a sniff test and if it smells like garlic in a gym sock it's ready😂. I put it on after every rain. I've put it on everything and thick. Has not hurt anything and the leaves all look better! We have storms moving through now. After I'll be spraying. Slugs will be out in force since it's been dry
Toronto is wonderful. I went there with my hockey team several years ago and the people were really nice
@@FastGardeningMichigan Thank you for replying 🙂
I have Freakshow Cannabis plants growing outside.
What a crazy-looking plant this is lol
Do you think the girls would like this juice to?
How often do you spray all your plants ?

Passing this info along…. Wondering, if this would change or cause strawberries to taste funny…..what did your strawberries taste like after using spray…. Lol
They taste great. The spray is mostly on the leaves
Does it matter what time of day? We’ve got a mini heat wave in Tacoma right now.
No, but slugs prefer cooler night temps so I prefer evening to spray
A heat wave will shut down many pests so you're lucky! I got one coming next week. Gonna have 90s here.
Sooo........i dont have to murder all the slugs to have undamaged plants. Thats great news. I will try this. This wont hurt my mantises ladybugs or spiders?
Won't hurt anything! Many creatures do not like the smell of garlic
Does this deter rabbits? They’re killing my plants. Can I spray my flower plants?
I don't know how rabbits will react. They cannot get in my garden. I know most rodents do not like the smell of garlic or mint
Can this mixture be used on flowers?
The earwigs and slugs been taking my seedlings out left and right. 😢
My earwigs must be broken because they have never harmed my plants and I do have a bunch of them
Soap nuts or Quillaja as the wetting agent. Please, do not use dish soap...
Dish soap seems to be very popular with gardeners for many things. Not sure why. Perhaps an avocado oil or olive oil would work. I just don't want any oily coating on my leaves
Dr. Bronners, castille soap, often used.
@@level1paladin Forgot about that one.
Castille soap sedms safe to use on plants, although only a drop or two per liter is needed to makr a good wetting agent. The soap lowers the surface tension in the droplets, of the, aerosol to make it enter the stomata of the pests, which is how they breathe.
@@jamesreid8638 if the pests can't breathe neither can the other bugs. I'm not trying to harm beneficial creatures, only deter pests
Your video is really amazing . But your video's SEO score is not good .Due to which your channel is not improving. If you solve this problem your channel will progress. If you want to solve this problem ,i can help you .please reply to me.
This mixture (and beer traps) has done a number on the slug population in my garden. The smell is strong enough I think it is keeping deer and rabits away, also.
Kept raccoons from digging up my tomatoes! They dug up the same plants 2 nights in a row then I sprayed this and they've left them alone.
I wonder if red pepper flakes added to this might help. I don’t think I have any cayenne pepper. Gonna make some of this on Sunday.
Couldn't hurt!
Yes! I've been crushing whole dried red cayenne peppers and steeping it with the garlic mix. Beware, you'll find all the paper cuts on your fingers really quick if you get any of this mix on them 😆
I might try growing garlic and cyan peppers to make my own. If my garden was big enough, growing them around my garden as a fence might work as well. That's what I would do, its almost free.
Slugs and other pests do not mind garlic plants themselves and they will eat cayenne plants. It's the concentrated scent that they don't like
@@FastGardeningMichigan I see. Ty, You saved me a lot of experiment time. I may still grow it just for the mixture and for myself.
Great info. In our neck of the woods (SW Michigan) the Gypsy Moth caterpillars are really raising havoc with the trees. Can't help but be concerned about the garden too.Gotta give this garlic spray a try.
They started to appear on my apple trees but haven't seen any more
Wonder what the deer think of the mix? Have to try it.
Haven't had many deer around lately so I can't test it out!
I’m going to make some right now! Thanks
Good luck!
Could you post the list of ingredients for me, please?
1 gallon of water and put some shredded cloves of garlic in it. I used 2 heads, or 8 cloves. Let sit for 3 days then strain and dilute one part garlic water to 1 part water. Spray on plants!
You can also add cayenne pepper and onion.
@@FastGardeningMichigan excellent, thank you so much.
Will this brew deter those damn rollie pollies?
I'm not sure! They don't harm my plants so I ignore them
Thank you for this recipe! Snazzie shirt!
Thanks!
I’m having nightmares about slugs because the treat my sunflowers with no respect 😤 I’ll be back after I finish the video ❤
I can't even direct sow sunflowers anymore. For every hundred that pop up one might make it.
Good on ya thars great. And most of those ingredients grow very happily in the garden with no problems from pests. 😊
I was gonna add chives but slugs have been eating those!
Thanks! Much needed video!
Thank you so much!

I don't use any of the store bought methods.
