The amount of time a conventional submarine can stay submerged before needing to surface for air is a significant limitation of its operations. The submarine's propulsion, speed, machinery, and equipment, as well as the local tactical situation, all affect the pace at which its batteries deplete, and hence the period for which the submarine can remain submerged. Because of this constraint and its effects on speed, stealth, and concealment, conventional submarines are easily spotted, especially in the confined littoral environment. However, the conventional submarine's limited dive endurance makes it vulnerable to detection from the air and from surface platforms in a relatively confined oceanic space, making it less effective in the littoral environment than its larger, more powerful and noisier nuclear counterpart.

All of Japanese "Harushio" class submarines are already decommissioned. And I do not understand why Japanese "Taigei" class submarine is not listed among the top 10 conventionally-powered submarines in the world.

Taigei only just started operation and this video was made before this. This vid mentioned Soryu class and Taigei is another variant of Soryu with improved onboard system and Lithium battery.

at least one of the quietest. Kinda hard to know exactly how the Chinese perform and so on. Also if not American it is hard to compare as they do exercise both with Asian countries and European ones.

This list is wrong in so many levels, if the Chinese subs are better than a gotland or 212, I am the king of England. Whover made this video must be smoking something other than a Marlboro.
Swedish Gotland class subs and German Type 206 subs should be ranked 1st and 2nd as they were able to sink a US carrier during wargaming exercises in the Pacific. Followed by Type 212 and Japanese subs like the new Taigei class and older Soryu class.

Yeah no, the Gotland should be no 1 on this list. A Gotland snuck up on a US carrier during NATO exercises. China's submarines are known to be very noisy.
I do not understand why noisy Chinese sumarine is listed as the best conventionally-powered submarine in the world.
Literally over a dozen different Western navies have scored at least one kill against a US carrier during war games, it's peanutes. The Dutch Walruss-class is rightfully number one because it's the only diesel-electric to annihilate literally half the US carrier taskgroup including 5 or 6 frigates and destroyers and even a Los Angeles-class nuclear attack sub, all of it while remaining undetected and getting away unharmed afterwards. The Dutch are widely revered in naval circles because of it. Just Google "Dutch sub sinks half US navy" and you'll find a dozen articles about it.
A portuguese U-209PN (german made) sub from the Tridente class did exactly the same so that’s not a big deal for the best electric subs, and the best is not even mentioned in this pathetic video, wich is exactly the U-209PN, a special version made for the portuguese navy.
The only reason the Gotland even got close was because of the scenario requirements that the surface ships couldn’t use active sonar. The US military frequently hobbles itself in wars games to see how effective specific systems are without the support of other systems. Yes the Gotland class are very quiet, but that does absolutely no good when the surface ships are using active sonar.
@@matthewhuszarik4173 I think that for it's price tag it's still very impressive that it managed that. You're claiming the Americans hobbled their own carrier and while I understand that tests like that will be important to see suboptimal situations, the fact is, the Gotland still slipped through and had the opportunity to make a theoretical attack. For what it is, that's not bad. These things are so cheap compared to their American equivalents.
