SY77 is an amazing synth. I used to own one as part of my music composing setup. It's complex and deep. Especially when the built in samples form part of the DX operators waveforms. Things get really complex then. Massive complex atmospheric textures can be created with the SY77. TG77 is an excellent rack version of it too.
Yes i always wondered if the engineers at Yamaha have had bigger plans for these synth in regards of realtime editing. the whole sysex part in the SY is so well done.
Behringer BCR2000 is best for building synth editors at the moment cause they're cheap and have 32 encoder knobs each. I use 2 of them with custom faceplates for editing my Rhodes Chroma. If it's really a good synth it deserves a faceplate and dedicated editor. But probably wait for the BCR32 which is the successor to the BCR2000, it's a better design and more compact.
Thank you for this very valuable info!...How many simultaneous parameters can be modified realtime via sysex without glitches in the SY77/99/TG77 ? Which controller would you recommend for realtime editing on SY77/99/TG77 Novation SL MK2 or Behringer BCR2000 ?
Well...tough question. I think it depends on the parameter range of the values. OP Volume are 0- 127 but OP Coarse are only 0-31. So there is no real guideline. If you dont play anything and simply send data to the synth it will take much more. You will have to try out. Since i use BOME Midi translator a lot i have no favorite controller anymore. But both controllers you named are natively sysex so i think they are a good start.
That is true. But to make a controller for 6 EGs it was easier for me to set up several presets in Bome (CC to Sysex) that can be used single or in combination. Otherwise i would have to switch novation templates and would only be able to control one EG at once.
Well... in my case i use the left controller as a CC controller. Due to this i am able to combine several presets in BOME (where the CCs are translated to sysex) so i can e.g. edit several envelopes at once. Keep in mind that for all EGs in one AFM Element you would need 96 knobs. One may also set up several native sysex templates and switch between them - so then you really wouldnt need a computer anymore for the final editing.
@@thehimer3903 so does Novation go to usb to computer, assign midi for Novation/sy77 in bome, then midi cable from your sound card to the sy77? Sorry if you already have a video on setting this up I’m a work, not home til next week but I have a Novation mk1 and a Novation mk2 waiting for me.. trying to learn what I can before then

I am surprised it responds so well to editing parameters. Thanks for the video

yes i heard there sholud be a new one...
The Power!!! ❤
This is great - can you share the template for the Novation?

would it work for an sy99 ? thinking of doing the same with my physis piano keyboard which has 9 faders, 9 knobs, 4 banks (amazing midi keyboard imho)
Yes this should be possible with the 99 too. Probably there are even more cool parameters to edit on it.
Very Nice
isn´t the Zero MK2 capable of send SysEx too?

Could you use another controller as well or would it have to be able to handle Sysex?
Well if you use a translator like BOME you can use a standard CC controller as well. That’s what happening with the left controller in the video
@@thehimer3903 thanks
Would you say it would be preferable to have 2 of the MK1 controllers for this? you won’t need to use a computer at all?

@@KUPHSER in my case the MK2 is connected via USB and the MKI is connected via MIDI DIN. But i think that is not very important
@@KUPHSER indeed there is no detailed video about my setup. maybe i will do one in the future
Can you please do a video about your setup explaining how to connect the SY77, the two Novation controllers & the computer running Bome?
