He lusts after a kid the whole movie, and then right when he's about to "score," he realizes he's making a big mistake, and right when he makes the right choice, he gets his brains blown out by a gay, closeted conservative...🙄🙄🙄😧😅 Seriously wierd that THAT'S how they decided to end the movie..😐 The whole "moral of the story" in the movie is that life is meaningless. Do have relations with a child, don't, it doesn't matter, because we are all just plastic bags trapped in the "gusts" of wind, aka LIFE. I personally can't watch the movie without feeling sick from the messages.. Those are my main beefs anyway..

You think because the subject is difficult it detracts from Spacey’s breathtaking performance, or the fact that each scene in this movie was crafted with such care and intention that its unparalleled in the last decade of film. The only people who share your obtuse view, are those who hold almost no cinematic knowledge and are literally so one-dimensional that they are unable to acknowledge that of course this is a difficult subject; In your mind, movies should simply be about superheroes and sick animals? The fact that a director can form an icon of modern cinema from a difficult topic while inspiring the cast to deliver world class performances is incredible. Thank god you’re irrelevant and anyone with a shred of knowledge of the art of film will disregard views such as yours - with the depth of a single piece of paper.

Sure, there are some comedic moments, but by the end, those moments were all but forgotten when faced with the grim reality of the conclusion of the events portrayed in this film. If you want to watch a light-hearted film with some elements of comedy and some elements of drama, don't see American Beauty. But if you enjoy films that make you think, and are entertained by an excellent cast, excellent directing, and an excellent screenplay, this film should be at the top of your list.
