  • What do you do for your pets when they are stressed? Do you administer Trazodone for stress-related behaviors? If so, Dr. Judy recommends regular bloodwork to check for elevated ALT levels which could be a sign of liver failure. In this session, Dr. Judy shares a case study of a dog who was given Trazodone to calm its stress levels down after an episode of raisin ingestion. Over the course of several weeks, this dog's ALT levels continued to climb until it was taken off this particular drug. The case study, written for veterinarians, advises that when using this drug routine lab work is recommended to monitor liver enzymes.

I cannot BELIEVE they continued to give Traz even though the liver enzymes kept going up.

My vet wants me to bring my dog in for a "sterile urine" procedure, and to give her trazadone to calm her for this procedure which she claims is not invasive. Sounds pretty invasive to me. She told me the urine sample I brought in showed a slight amount of bacteria but didn't know what bacteria. Saying it could of been in the container I brought it in. I am not sure what to do at this point. Cranberry, D mannose?

I did thousands of cystocentesis procedures over the years. I did not use sedation. It's the only way to get a sterile urine sample for a culture.
