I am genuinely impressed that he not only remained standing, but also kept the camera as steady as he did during that transformer explosion. That's an incredible shot.
The effect of the low frequencies moving the air and blocking out the sound of the rain temporarily after the strike is quite chilling. It is a great example of the way humans identify with the raw concept of power.
Proof positive that it's dangerous to even walk down the sidewalk in an electrical storm! It's interesting that the business sign to the lower right of the pole seems unaffected.
I was in Dumas, TX a few months ago, and we had a real bad storm come through... I was walking back from the gas station when I feel goosebumps on my arms and the hair on my body start to stand a little... and you see a blinding lighting bolt come down and hit a transformer. The sound of that was so loud cars stopped and my ears were ringing. I ran towards it and found out my hotel is now without power.
This video was shot at the New Jersey shore, at night about 8:oo pm..Thank you. And yes it scared me good. You never think that it would happen, I was just happy with what I filmed before the strike.
@@damon713love that you’re still commenting 16yrs after posting this awesome video! That was a very scary moment for you I’m sure! Hello from a calm & boring Northern Ireland, where we just get regular crappy rain lol
When I was first going to William & Mary, I was made to walk to an orientation activity in the middle of a thunderstorm. The group I was in was across the street from the library when lightning struck the library.
Man, you were putting your life in jeopardy being out in the open like that. You don't have to get hit directly by lightning for it kill you. If it strikes something nearby, the current can be conducted through you and you'd get electrocuted. You'd actually be safer if you were just inside a car. The metal body would protect you from the current because of the "Faraday Cage" effect. So next time you want to record a storm, I hope you record through a window from inside a building or inside a car. This a really cool video, but be safe.
Its written ''Thou shalt not tempt thy Lord your God'' Your the one out there knowing that you shouldn't be out there to begin with you better be glad he had mercy on you. He could've let that lighting hit you and could've took you out of this world but you got to curse after it strikes and hits it you knowing not to be out there to start with your a heathen.
Legendary Lightning is produced by a difference in electric charge between the clouds and the ground, between clouds, or in the cloud itself. The charge is generated by ice particles in the top of the cloud (storm clouds reach into the stratosphere, where they freeze) bumping into each other. This is simple physics and has nothing to do with imaginary celestial beings. Being a "heathen" is more fun, by the way. No need to be scared of things when you can understand them by thinking for yourself and by reading real books.
Careful what you ask for. I made that mistake once and a ball of lightning floated within a few feet of my face before shooting into the garden next door and exploding with a bang so loud that it smashed a green house and almost gave me a nervious breakdown.
Brilliant well worth the wait Me and a friend were a similar distance away from a strike he was sat on a beer keg I was on a metal chair the force nearly knocked us off them, I had a numb face and a headache for the rest of the night, nearly shit my pants but have a healthy respect for lightning now!!!!!!!
Becareful what you ask for! I been struck by lightning 9 times the moment maybe thrilling but the constant pain and headaches is no fun at all! You probably got fly by static from that one! As bolts been known to knock people out as far as 60-90 feet from the direct strike! Thanks for sharing the video!
I do agree that the film should be edited, about 20 seconds until the final strike would be awesome. But all that aside, this is some great luck and awesome camerawork. I mean that because you kept the camera steady and got the immediate aftermath. Many people jerk the camera all around after something that startling. I salute you for your big hairy cajones, and thank you for posting this for us Sir!
Being that close to lighting is pretty amazing. I've been really close to it as well... it blinds you for 4-5 seconds. It's almost not loud, it's almost more just like getting hit in the chest... it's pretty cool. It's luck too that there were no cars there right then. They would have been safe in the car (rubber tires) but it scares people, and then they crash...
WOW Dude! I'm VERY impressed! I LOVE lightening storms, but only get to see them when I travel to the States. (I live in England you see, and we don't have PROPER storms here... Just God's incontanent wee wee's when he misses the 'holy shitter'... ;-)
i've been close to a strike my self today. i was on the roof if thundery weather, thinking 'it's ok, it's still far away'. and then just blue sparks everywhere and one big at the lightning rod. and it fealt like someone passed a plastic comb above my hair, but 5 times stronger. wasn't very loud, I just heard sparks, but then came the main thunder and all car alarms went off. lucky that the lightning rod worked :D
if you want to get more views you should just take a clip of the end bit when it happens and you might hit the million. Awesome bolt well done mate for capturing it. Because people would probably quit watching it and won't tell friends, if they have to watch all of it because they would think its a dud video.
I watching it and I was thinking, "if its taking THIS long to wait for a close strike, it better be impressive". Luckily, I was impressed! Holy shit wow...
the funny thing is, i may not have experienced it, but when the lightning struck that pole i was like HOLY SHIT! lol...i love these kind of videos...i wanna be a storm chaser xD
@sabaakueri Some of the lights stayed on while others went off probably because the lightning struck just one of the three primary (high voltage) phases, blowing out the fuse on that phase but leaving the others on. The lights on the transformers wired to the struck phase went out, the others stayed on.
we just had 2 days worth of thunderstorms here in Birmingham England and all im going to say is my left ear drum nearly popped! one storm cloud was on top of my garden, and then lightning struck with the extremely loud thunder together!! im scared of lightning now
I am genuinely impressed that he not only remained standing, but also kept the camera as steady as he did during that transformer explosion. That's an incredible shot.
never tell mother nature to "show you something" lol
The effect of the low frequencies moving the air and blocking out the sound of the rain temporarily after the strike is quite chilling. It is a great example of the way humans identify with the raw concept of power.
Aaand there goes the power for that area. Nice one.
If you don't wan't to lose 2+ minites of your life, skip to 3:00
If you don’t want to lose 192 seconds of your life, skip to 3:12.
Thanks dude
omfg that dead lights xDD
OK thank that was too loud

Where at the Jersey shore? I worked in North Wildwood back in 1990 and 1991 at 15th and surf and remember a few storms like this come though

Wowwwww Dude, you ask nature to "show you something"?!
i like the length, makes you wait and watch the storm, replicating the experience and tension in a way. awesome, love the "hoooly shit."
I'D RUN FOR MY FUCKING LIFE IF THAT SHIT HAPPENS TO ME
I love how that one minute it's all bright around, but then after that lightning strike, everything just went pitch black.
If you hair stands up, get out before it's too late.
static energy could make u a target if u stood there any longer if correct
hair standing up isnt always static electricity, their is a muscle under each hair follicle that gives you goosebumps, but yeah. get outta there.
it's cool because you see all the lights on in the buildings and the traffic lights and then after the flash all the power goes out.
why would you do that filming out in a thunder storm where your likely to get hit
You're an idiot. First of all, *you're, and second, lightning doesn't HIT you, it doesn't swing down from the clouds, you connect with the clouds.
TeamModded Um first of all he didn't get HIT second you should be greatly appreciated that you didn't get HIT
Absolutely worth watching cars drive by for 3 minutes!! Great shot!!

if you don't get struck by lightning, you don't have to thank anyone, you were lucky, end of the story.
+Drakon Kur Your ignorance is showing.
dude right after the lighting strikes has to have been the best reaction ever no other words could have described it better lmao "HOLY SHIT"!!!!!
Lrn2edit please. 3 mins of crap 2 seconds of glory.
I just love how it knocks out the power to all the street lights!
every video of close lightning i've seen was followed by "holy shit"
i love how it got dark and quiet afterwards, very dramatic
the lightning strike at the end made it worth watching the whole video

That was the best lightning shot ever. GREAT SHOT!!!

GOOD video!!!! AWESOME weather footage!!!!
Well OF COURSE you’re gonna feel it 😂 ⚡️
I remember when a lightning strike was DIRECTLY above me 2 years ago. It almost brought me to the ground!
Actually a car is one of the safest places to be in during a lightning storm as the metal frame of the car absorbs most of the electricity.
I almost shitted my drawls watching it on video. That was crazy.. Glad yall are ok..
When I was 8 one of those got struck by lightning and It sent a green ripple through the sky ,it was the coolest thing I ever saw
I rated it five stars due to the fact that it takes balls to stand outside with electrical equipment to record a storm with lightning strikes about.
i love the silence after it happened and the darkness
earth:1
humans: 0
i think the lightning evaporated the rain around it because right after it struck you couldn't hear the rain
that was awesome
That is amazing !!
Great catch.
ROFL
"c'mon give me a close one.."
great video of close lightning
the problem is too much waiting.
man that looks like something straight out of a movie! i wish i was there!

@halofan6857 Nappa: Hey, Vegeta, what does the scouter say about the lightning's power level?
Vegeta: It's over 9000!!!!....degrees fahrenheit.
LOL I love it how you didn't move after that strike and just said ' Holy Shit ' !
i feel asleep watching that, until the end bit! that was crazy!
I can imagin a person walking across that electricity pole while the lightning strike
the funny thing is, i may not have experienced it, but when the lightning struck that pole i was like HOLY SHIT! lol...i love these kind of videos...i wanna be a storm chaser xD
That video was great! Had me laughing at the end!!
At the end: AMEN.
The way the dude just sits there for a few secs and then says Holy Sh*t so slow like had me rofl.
How could you be so calm? I would’ve been screaming and running for my life indoors.
@codymccone7469 I was afraid to move. I felt like it would see me, and I would get shocked. I froze.
Dude, way to hold the camera steady! BIG props to you.
once, i was going home in my car, and lightning struck the road sign next to it

Greatness, its funny how you said "Come on, show me something." and "Give me a close one" Thats great.

the end was so funny. holy sh*t! that was awesome!
wait for it..

BANG
I liked it, but almost thought it was just a joke until it really happened hehe. Thanks for sharing.
Dude.. ..you lucky son of a!! Even I crapped myself!! Not literally!!
I may be hearing things, but it sounds at about 3:09 you can hear the particles in the transformer charge up before the lightning hits.
I like the suspense of the video but ddddddddaaaaaaaaammmmmmnnnnnn that was awesome as hell wow my heart was pumping
Oh my god. Like in my worst nightmares as kid, when complete white light makes you loose eyesight for a second.
Lose. Stop misspelling it.
Well, you asked for close, you got it. Holy shit, indeed.
we just had 2 days worth of thunderstorms here in Birmingham England and all im going to say is my left ear drum nearly popped! one storm cloud was on top of my garden, and then lightning struck with the extremely loud thunder together!! im scared of lightning now
thanks for not editing out the first 3:00 minutes of rain and making me wait.
Lmao, it was like "That's gonna be you in a couple of seconds if you don't get out of here!"
that was awesome, too close for me:) great clip dude
wow. awesome footage. Seems like the common phrase for lightning strikes is 'holy shit' haha
Same Here,,, i keep the curtains closed and Music loud so i don`t hear ore See it,,,That really gives me Creeps
"BOOM" Silence....."HOLY SHIT"
