I keep stirring my bodhran player, pointing to him and telling people, "He's my drummer"..but he sees the humour of it. He tells me some bodhran players are too bloody sensitive, and he's Irish.
It's still a drum! Why split hairs over its name? We know it's a Bodhrán but a lot of people don't actually know what it is, or know anything about traditional Irish instruments in general. I know it's annoying but as a player of 35 years, it's tiresome explaining to people..
Just sounds like every other bodhrán player that follows this particular style, he's literally making the same sound over and over, very little variations in the skin tone, literally no upbeats, don't get me wrong he's good but no different to anyone else. Bodhrán playing is like any instrument, you need to have your own distinctive style..
