Tombow Storage Tote Bag Review! How Much Art Stuff Will Fit In It? Better than the Jazza Bag?

  • In my hunt for the perfect Art Bag, today I will be reviewing this tote bag by Tombow, which I found on Amazon. It's a storage tote bag for their duel ended marker pens, but I figured it would also fit many other kinds of art supplies, so let's find out in this video just how much it will hold. Is it any good? Is it better than the much more expensive Jazza bag duo I bought earlier in the year? Will it actually hold a drink bottle? All shall be revealed!
    This is a first impressions review, and yes I bought the bag myself.
    Tombow Storage Tote Bag (empty, just the bag) on Amazon (affiliate links are included)
    AU: amzn.to/4at8wPe
    US: amzn.to/44SB6Iw
    UK: amzn.to/4dRXp5x
    (I'm hoping these are the right links for US and UK because they won't ship to Australia and are hiding the prices, doh!)
    An Australian store also has the bag with Tombow pens included: artsup.com.au/products/tombow...
    It's also possibly available at Officeworks online for $150. Link is being stupid for some reason.

    That tombow bag is huge! I think it would fit all my watercolour, pencil, marker, fineliners, neocolor 2s, sketchbooks etc and still be less than half full. 😆🖌🖍🤯
    I go small with travel bags - a zipped pouch that fits an A5 sketchbook, small watercolour tin and a few fineliners, travel brushes, eraser etc and a couple of small bottles. I even have a pocket size version that I have in any bag - my etsy A6 midori travellers notebook style thing with several homemade sketch book inserts in watercolour paper and sketch paper and a just under A6 size coin purse with pens etc and a wee business card holder palette with a 3D printed insert with watercolours in. 😊🎨🥰

      Haha this bag ended up being way more massive than anticipated! I love how it fits my entire colleciton of pens though so I'm super happy with it for toting around the house and studio! As for travel, I think this is going to be a road trip bag, with a smaller side bag for taking a few things at a time from it. I haven't worked it out yet but last year in Greece I carried a much smaller bag with just a few art supplies. The trouble is I tend to pick things up on my travels and end up with no bag space, lol. 😄

    Just an observation from a distance; in comparison to the Jazza bag; the tombow bag, filled entirely (so heavy) and being square; I would imagine it banging bruises on my hip bone and me not knowing where to put my arm on that side while carrying it. Also; that has to be one of the most unattractive bag designs 😅 (not fair next to the Jazz one which is really pretty). Aside from that; thanks for taking one for the team! 😆

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  Месяц назад +3

      Yes, these are valid points too! I haven't yet tried going far with the bag and the balancing against hip is definitely something I considered too when loading this and seeing how much stuff went in! 😂 I think for practical travel, I wouldn't fill it to capacity but I like the idea that I could fit more if I bought things along the way, lol. Aesthetics-wise, Jazza bag is prettier for sure. Price wise, Tombow bag is superior in every other way (except maybe the sticking out from hip issue).

      I think for a while there was a limited edition pink and teal version of the bag? I saw a picture on Pinterest or somewhere....I wish it came in those colours! But I could only find the more boring version so I'll live with it. Maybe I'll put some iron-on patches or something to decorate it a bit more. But honestly I'm just happy that it's super functional for my needs and that beats aesthetics hands down, after the trouble I had with the admittedly prettier Jazza bags.

  • @Azkademon

    So much better than the Jazza bag!! Wow that's a lot of arty stuff you can get in there, I've not heard the word 'motherload' in years but this bag certainly fit's the description of it! I don't have a arty travel bag as I've never travelled sadly, I'd love to, but would have to have £ to do so, but if I did travel this would be the perfect bag, I can imagine it fitting everything I'd ever need and the kitchen sink lol :D

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  Месяц назад +3

      It fits a ridiculous amount, haha! Though for travel I wouldn't pack it maybe quite as full if I had to carry it long distances. 😂 Travel can also include day trips to local areas, which I like to do as well. Long distance travel of course can be pretty expensive depending on where you go. From Australia, just about anywhere is far, even within the country! I envy those living in UK and Europe who have the capability of "just popping over to Spain for the weekend", like my UK cousins often do. Honestly one week they're in Venice, the next Warsaw....🙃

    That might be THE bag to take when we go camping! I have everything in canvas grocery bags, and it is just way too easy to just grab one more bag for stuff. Like you, I am always on the lookout for the perfect bag. OMG, that camera is to die for. I am so tired of carrying around a bulky bag just to accommodate an extra lens along with my plein air equipment. My easel, tripod, stool, and paint supplies weigh nowhere near as much as my camera and lens. But that is way out of my budget, even if I do manage to find one in stock. That really is giving me the motivation to do make my no-buy an actual buy nothing but vital supplies and save towards that camera.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  Месяц назад +1

      I got tired of lugging heavy camera equipment around because lenses just end up weighing a ton! I had a Nikon D800 with "The Trinity" f/2.8 lenses, and I loved them all but it just got too much to carry. I sold all but the 70-200mm lens which Nick uses with his camera now, and therefore had enough to buy a new camera, yay! This is a bridging camera, Leica V-Lux 5 so it's a model that's a few years old now. There's a Panasonic version of it which I think is virtually identical but cheaper, possibly the Lumix FZ1000 . I had to have the Leica though - it's my dream camera brand, and I also got mine for a heavy discount from a store that had one left and wanted to move it on. I really love it, it's sooo light and easy to use!

    Hi Becky - I totally agree with you about the Jazza bag... I'm looking for someone to give it to. And the small one is even more useless. Oh well...! I don't like square boxes for travel. I usuall take a soft round shoulder bag, very light, and you can keep adding and adding. I have tried to find another one - market in Amsterdam - but they stopped making this exact one. I have for well over 15 years. I think it's that parachute fabric. I also bought a fabulous bag on wheels that is also a shoulder carry on... can't find the link hmmmpppppp! 49 Dragonflies bought it first. Great one.

      Bags are so fickle! I haven't actually used the smaller Jazza bag because I couldn't find a reason to, haha! But I may take it away on our next trip to give it a proper go and see if it's better than the larger bag. The lack of pockets which fit water bottles is my biggest gripe with them!

  • @zenlife1200
    @zenlife1200 Месяц назад +2

    I was just thinking that those marker holders that came with the Jazza bag but didn't fit in the bag once they were covered in markers, might fit well in this bag. Even a pen roll would be good. I've come to dislike having all my markers or colored pencils jumbled together in a one compartment pencil case. I like them organized these days so I pick colors quickly. There's nothing like setting a timer for a quick 10 minute sketch and then spending 10 minutes looking for a specific pencil or marker 😂 I think if I was going to be taking a lot of supplies somewhere, those sewing machine bags on wheels look good. I think the scrapbooking ones are similar. My mum in law goes to an art night each week with a bunch of arty friends and it's one of these bags that she uses. She's an older lady so having wheels for easy moving is great. She can fit her wooden table easel and paint brushes, paper or canvas etc in there no worries. I would imagine it would be too big for carry on, on a plane though.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  Месяц назад +1

      I would very much consider including the marker inserts from the Jazza bags into this one, so at least they can be used, and as you say it's easier to find colours quickly. I did look at sewing machine bags, but decided ones with wheels would hinder me when carrying it places for walking purposes, and also they'd be too big for carry on. But in their favour, it does mean less lifting and they're easy to drag along. I'd use one more at home I think to wheel supplies from one room to another. 😄

    I want a nice bag. I definitely wanted a Jazza one and did watch all the videos he made as they went through the process of designing it. I didn't buy it because of the price, as I thought it wasn't great value. I went and made my own art bag. I got a very very cheap backpack from Temu for $3 (it actually is a very good bag and great quality), and I had one of those black art folios that comes with various pencils and has sketchbook room and used that in the bag. It means I have plenty of graphite and some colour pencils (very cheap ones), and I added some alcohol markers and mechanical pencils and other tools I would want with me. That folio, does have a strap to keep some A4 sketchbooks secure, and I can add more to the backpack itself. Plus I got to choose the perfect colour, since I wasn't restricted by it being purpose built by an art company.
    In saying all that, it sits under my desk at work. I haven't actually done any outdoors sketching. 😂 I half want to, and half don't at work, probably because I feel less comfortable doing it next to my building. Unusually use my work lunch times to reflect or go for a walk.

    The Jazza bag is a Laptop bag and Tombow is a lunch box. I have a carry-on that looks similar. And it has zippered side pockets that fit a small water bottle. It was nice to see a review. It helped me understand a bit... I think I can't see a purpose for 'artist bags'. they all just seem like normal bags to me. Am I misunderstanding something? I keep expecting them to unfold all the way into a desk set up that is just faster to put away.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  Месяц назад +3

      Lunch bag, lol!! 😂 Actually it would pack in a good lunch now I think about it. Yes, an art bag can be anything really. The closest I've tried to a dedicated ART BAG would be the Etchr Art Satchel, but it weighed an absolute ton because of the built-in metal easel stand and I couldn't get past that issue. Not practical for flying at all when you're only meant to have a maximum of 7kg carry-on, and the empty bag already weighs close to half of that! This is also why I am always looking for the Perfect Art Bag - not sure it actually exists, or that I would even know what perfect is being that I change my mind on which art supplies I want at any given time. It's an endless cycle of futility!

    I’m really lucky that I decided not to go with the jazzer bag. It was way out of my price range and I couldn’t understand how you could justify paying so much for an art bag that you weren’t sure if it was gonna work. I love supporting other artists, but that was just unreel. I understand buying it for a RUclips channel though at least we got to see the ups and downs of it. However, I do know that jazzer is primarily a marker and digital artist and is very heavy into technology, neither of which is my field or interest, so I knew that the bag would be focusing more on that then someone who is a mixed media artist, strictly traditional, and just want to take things like water colours, paintbrushes markers, crayonsI could tell that the bag in its creation was not for me. I was thinking the whole time he was showing it off where am I gonna put my water colours where am I gonna put this that’s not gonna fit that however I was very tempted and I’m so glad that I didn’t get it.

      The main part of the bag is holding up very well; those two outer mesh pockets are the flimsiest bits and I'll be keeping an eye on those over time as I think they'd fail first. So far so good though!

    This was timely, as I’ve just ditched the Derwent bag, it just didn’t work for me. See how I get on with this!

      The brown Derwent satchel with the ringbinder clip inside? I have one of those too! 🤣
