    Mine was a little different...I did my interview almost 2 years ago and I had to do some written tasks (error correction and explaining differences e.g. bring/take and similar things) and a written essay about why i wanted to become a teacher...after the written task a tutor came along and we started checking the written task together and we discussed about my essay and why I wanted to take course etc...he told me right after the interview that I got accepted..overall I think it really depends on where you'd like to do your celta...hope my really long comment helps :)

    I solved my application task and sent it, now I'm scheduled for an online interview in a couple of days. For some reason doing the Celta as a non-native English speaker can be a bit intimidating at times but I'm trying my best to keep calm.
    Btw my grammar is not the best either. I'm going for the four-week intensive course.

      @@samiramechani1852 thank you ever so much for your comment and I am glad you found the video helpful. To reduce your anxiety, I would recommend taking your time when answering questions. Don't feel the need to hurry when answering questions. You could use some fillers to help you think such as, "That's a good question.", "Well, let me think.", etc.
      At the end of the interview, you could ask the interviewers some questions such as what would you recommend I do to prepare for the course, if they have any feedback about the interview and the like. I hope that helps and remember, it is natural to feel nervous. Just count to ten and remember that it can be all the more difficult for those interviewing you.

      Hi! I would like to do this course, I have a C1 level and I've heard with the CELTA you can only teach up to B2. Is it true? Or do you have to gain some experience before teaching higher levels?

    • @ELTExperiences
      @ELTExperiences  5 лет назад +1

      I am unsure about this but with my experience, newly certified teachers (regardless whether they are native or non-native) need to gain experience before starting to teach upper-intermediate or advanced levels. During the CELTA course, the providers tend to offer classes at Pre-Intermediate or Intermediate level. My first class which was offered to me after the CELTA was an Elementary class and it took a number of years before I was offered advanced students. Hope this helps.

      @@hfaiedhmeriem1284 Hello, I don't think there were many questions. My interview was more of a discussion about the pre-interview task we had to fulfill beforehand (both about English language and about our CV, previous teaching experience and so on). There was a question nevertheless about a situation : we have to teach a group of students, whose language we don't know, how to ask for a cup of tea or coffee and what to reply - and we can’t write. What do we do? I must say Martin's video about teaching 'would you like?' was a blessing here!
      Hope this will be useful, and I wish you the best of luck. CELTA is demanding, for sure, but really worth the effort.

    I had my interview two weeks ago via Skype. I was asked to write a few paragraphs about the positive and negative aspects of English becoming a global language. I was also asked how I would explain some words, but the interview mostly just felt like a friendly conversation. I have a feeling this was because there were no red flags raised in my answers to the pre-interview task and because my interviewer knew that I have a Diploma in Modern Language Education.

    I’ve already done my pre interview application task and next week I’ll have the interview. As a non native speaker, I’m kinda nervous about it, but I’ll try to keep calm and give my best to pass this test. I have a question… if I will be accepted, I plan to do the part-time course (which should take 3 months and the classes will be on the weekend). The course will start in January, right when I’ll start a new job (Monday-Friday) and I’ll have a very tight schedule. For who took the part time course: do you think the two things are compatible? I’m very nervous about this also, but I’m already a teacher and I’m so determined to become the best teacher I could be, so I think that Celta is necessary for me to reach this goal. Thanks in advance 😊

Some things I'm curious to know about are: what you like and maybe don't like about english teaching, what a typical day looks like for an english teacher, what are the major components of the job on a daily basis what challenges you face, how much preparation work goes into it etc etc in order to get a better understand of the job itself?

    Hi, I recently completed my CELTA. Your videos were a great help throughout the course, I appreciate all the help I received thanks to the videos. I am an Indian, I studied English as First Language since school and I have a CEFR C2 level. Will the fact that I am from India hamper my chances where employers mention they are looking for native speakers as teachers?

    • @ELTExperiences
      @ELTExperiences  3 года назад +6

      Thanks Sagnik for your comment and I’m pleased to hear that you made progress with the CELTA course. Congrats on completing it successfully. There are certainly some employers who will seek to employ what they perceive as ‘native speakers’ but I would say that for those that already set such boundaries will be unsuitable to work for as they are likely to be unprofessional. I would recommend getting in touch with the British Council or International House to see if they have any openings. Also, consider seeing if you can get in touch with local or other international universities to see if they are recruiting tutors to help teach academic English. This would open additional opportunities for teaching at universities abroad without the hurdles faced by less recognised institutes. I hope this helps and let me know how you get on. 😊

    I can't even imagine not being a native speaker in a language but going after a teaching certification. Wouldn't that be a job for the people who were born with this language? ... I want to teach English formally as a way to better my own life and achieve my own goals... to think that I'll have to compete with people from all of the flipping world who are "English Teachers" - That's the hardest thing for me to wrap my brain around. I'm a language learner as well, just imagining the lack of self-awareness needed to pursue paid employment teaching my second language is cringe-inducing. Anyway cool video, thanks.

    Your celta interview was over a decade ago and you clearly don't remember it properly, this is very misinforming for anyone taking the test in 2019/2020.

      Neil Thompson I guess it was very different compared to how it was back in 2006/7. How was your interview?

      @@neilthompson8793 why don't you share your experiences of the CELTA interview to see how similar or different it was to mine or to demonstrate how different it has changed with time? It will be useful for the audience and I will include your comment in an updated description.
